Schremp Has a Fine Game

Rob Schremp had a very nice game in Springfield tonight. 1 goal, 2 assists and 5 shots on goal in a win, he was also first star of the game.

Schremp’s problem this season is that the guys who are in the NHL and have his potential job (Gagner, Cogliano) are not looking as though they are going to give up the opportunity.

With the Oilers sailing to another loss tonight, the two kids are among the positives on the team. Gagner and Cogliano both have 4 points, the kid Gagner is averaging a point a game. I understand the risk involved in keeping him up all season but if he’s getting results then why would they send him out?

Schremp’s window of opportunity was probably better last season, and he’s probably not even the most likely callup from the farm (I’d say Smid and Stortini are the likely candidates).

Still, he’s playing well and getting results. Despite the skill duplication among the kids on this roster, if he puts up numbers they’ll have to have a look eventually. He’s 4gp, 2-3-5 and tied for 3rd in AHL scoring (although it’s early) and is tied for the league lead in powerplay goals (2).

Best case he is a player for the Oilers although as you say where does he fit in? If they keep Gagner up then not sure who Schremp supplants at all.

If he puts up good numbers in the AHL at least his trade value will rise – not sure what that would be though.

Oops – forgot to add – good for him – he gets a lot of flak – have to give him some credit for going down and making things happen.

Schremp could come in for Nilsson if Robert doesn’t start making any noise.

Schremp is a very different player than Cogs. He’d likely get almost no time ES and slot in on the second PP unit.

But I’d like to see him deliver consistently before even thinking about a call up. Do it for 20 games and we’re talking.

Never you mind – Nilsson and Jacques sent down – Schremp and Stortini up.

    Wow that didn’t take long.

Mac T must really be unhappy with Nilsson.

Kent’s kid better rip it up in the AHL and fast.
