Oilers Hire Scout

This is Jim Crosson. The former Oiler prospect (undrafted, but signed as a free agent summer 1980) has been signed by the organization as a scout.

Crosson will cover “WHL, CIS and junior A games across the prairie” according to Gregg Drinnan.

Crosson has a wealth of experience in the AJHL, working for (among other teams) the Lloydminster Bobcats and Fort Saskatchewan Traders as GM.

The Oilers have added a couple of scouts in Europe this summer and are now adding in North America. It is among the latest “tells” that the organization considers procurement and development through the draft vital to Oilers future.

Drafting has improved over the last several seasons, but the organization hasn’t been signing many CHL players who are no longer eligible for the entry draft and graduating college men in CIS and NCAA.

Hopefully the Oilers begin signing players from those prospect trees in the next 12 months.
