Jujhar Khaira made his NCAA debut this weekend in an exhibition contest, and impressed in a Michigan Tech uniform.

Khaira had 4 shots against Brock (St. Catherine’s) University, a goal and was +2. According to this article the goal was a nice one:

  • Khaira’s goal was a beauty, as he won a face-off to himself, kicked the puck from skate to skate, handled the puck gracefully while charging to the net, then flipped a backhander over Blois’ shoulder into the roof of the net. “Before I went out there coach Pearson said try walking the guy off the draw. I’d say there was a lot of luck in that it worked out really well,” Khaira said.

Khaira is not a first or even a second round selection, but was taken in a draft year where the experts felt there was a leveling of talent after about #20 overall. In this way, I think this year’s draft most resembled 2002 from recent editions.

Kyle Woodlief, before the draft when asked who was being undervalued:

I think guys like Swedish winger Pontus Aberg, a couple of Euros in the OHL such as Tanner Richard and Artur Gavrus, and a couple of Tier II sleepers like Devin Shore of Whitby and Jujhar Khaira of Prince George are being undervalued.

Nice start for the guy! Just preseason, but success is never a bad thing. If he can put up anything close to a PPG as a college rookie I think we’ll have a player on our hands! Good to hear that he’s playing C as well given the lack of depth in the Oilers system. Not that it means a thing, but I’ve got a good feeling about this guy.

Trying to get confirm, but Cornet has apparently been sent to Stockton. Rajala and Zahn too.

If Cornet can get his shooting percentage back up to 40% again, he should make it back to the AHL.

The Barons site has the news:

What you said, plus Hunter, Maylan and Ludwig released. That still leaves a lot of bodies, no? More cuts to come potentially, unless there are injuries we don’t know about.

Bunz was sent to Stockton earlier.

He should make it back to the NHL if he can get his shooting % back up to 40 🙂

Not sure he’d get more than 20 shots a season in the NHL, even with fairly big minutes, so maybe not.

Hey, that’s still 8 goals. Would have outscored Belanger, Paajarvi, Petrell, Lander, Hordichuk, and tied Eager. Just 2 back of Hemsky… May be 20 shots would be enough!
