Oscar has always been a positive for me. “And the Oscar goes to” is a wonderful moment, altough passing on Shawshank Redemption tells us the Academy is addled.

Oscar the Grouch is a perfect character. Honest, straightforward, grouchy. You’ll meet a lot of people in life who rob you of time, energy and money because they lack the genuine directness of this garbage man.

Oscar Madison was a brilliant character, the grouch brought to life. There’s a scene in the television series (I think its the series) where Felix has just cleaned up the house and Oscar walks in, rips open a bag of chips and pours it on the coffee table. That’s golden.

I’m a little worried about these young Oiler defensemen. Are they Oscar the straightforward, beer drinking grouch? Or, GOD FORBID, are they as a group more like Felix?

I kid, of course. Klefbom has a bum shoulder (4-6 weeks), Gernat has one too and Marincin took a little extra time this fall. The real item here isn’t to question the manhood of the young defenders, it is to remind us that injuries and defensemen–especially defensemen–go hand in hand. Maybe they should draft them by the dozen.

injuries and Oilers seem to go hand in hand. now they just come pre-injured!

Finn and Pokka are looking better and better

Klefbom will recover but defenders do get hurt a lot

Moroz’s early returns thus far constitutes a giant “facepalm” considering the performance of those taken after Moroz. Maybe Finn never makes it, but he stands a better chance than Moroz.

I’m also waiting on the Inevitable “chronic” diagnosis that will eventually beset Klefbom down the road. These shoulder injuries are becoming ridiculous.

Perhaps a lesson in why the Oilers should have traded down and taken Murray, made a move up deal for Samuelsson and take Matt Finn instead of Zack Stortini.

    Stu, you magnificent bastard!

Yeah, passing on Yakupov. THAT’S the ticket.

The Oilers would look a lot better right now if they had Morgan Reilly, Henrik Samuelsson and Matt Finn in the pipeline instead of another scoring winger and Zack Stortini.

At some point, they are going to have to trade a winger for a an actual top pairing defenseman anyway.

Could have accomplished that at the draft.

I’d wager Hall will be traded for a an actual #1 or #2 D within 3 years.

DSF: No they wouldn’t. They took the BPA at #1. Not getting BPA is one thing, but getting BPA at #1 is crucial.

Bad shoulders are a very common problem among hockey players. I’m not too worried about this stuff as long as it gets looked after properly.

DSF, you pick the best player number 1 in the draft period. You dont fill holes with the number 1. In 3 years if they need to trade Yak for defense they will get a lot more then they would right now, and a lot more than with any of the other players.

Just because a player was drafted doesnt mean its the head scouts decision to draft that player. Moroz, I hate that pick, but it was clear swing for the fences. Guys like Lucic, and even Clutterbuck do not get traded other then for a ridiculous overpayment these days.

And yes not drafting a player becuase he was injured over a year after he was drafted is definitely how the draft works.

Hindsight is 20/20. You can’t make comments about previous drafts after you know how the player has developed.

How can any reasonable person respond to that crap from a troll!

    “another scoring winger”

All of these are “another scoring winger” too: Jagr, Richard, Hull, Hull, Anderson, Kurri, Tikkanen, Bucyk, Iginla, Fleury, Bure, Dineen, Stevens, Kariya, Selanne, Leclair, and Kharlamov.

There is a non-zero chance, a reasonable chance even, that Yakupov is as good as these players. Pretty good pick.

The defense doesn’t look to bad to me starting in about 2 years, provided they don’t all get/stay injured. I think one more top pairing defenseman is the only thing that’s really needed, and it might already be in the system for all we know at this point. Musil, Fedun and Klefbom before the injury have all had solid starts to the season in my eyes.

    ? – Schultz
    Smid – Petry
    Klefbom – Musil

It really doesn’t look that bad if they all continue on their respective developmental paths. Just one more guy, a healthy Whitney or one of those bottom defenders to turn into something–they’re still young.
