When I was in school, this girl moved to our town from Belleville. Oh my. I’ve never met anyone from SS Marie, so clearly Belleville is the better city and team.
Daniil Zharkov scored 23 goals in 50 OHL games as a 17-year old. That’s a damn good league, and if the big Russian winger (6.04, 212) can deliver more this season–say 30 to 35 goals–then I think we’re looking at a helluva prospect.
So far this season, Zharkov is 9, 2-2-4; he’s on track for an 11-goal season. Having said that, it is early and I think he was a wonderful draft bet. In fact, if the Oilers had taken him 32nd overall and Moroz in Zharkov’s spot it would have made more sense based on the pre-draft numbers. I digress. Here are the CHL scoring numbers for Oiler prospects at this time:
- Tobias Rieder (OHL) 8, 2-5-7
- David Musil (WHL) 9, 2-5-7
- Mitch Moroz (WHL) 11, 1-4-5
- Daniil Zharkov (OHL) 9, 2-2-4
- Travis Ewanyk (WHL) 11, 1-2-3
I don’t think anyone is ripping it up, although Musil’s numbers are solid for his style of play.
Zharkov plays tonight against the high scoring and generous Greyhounds. Perhaps he’ll score three.
