The Edmonton Oilers made it very clear yesterday than Ben Scrivens has all kinds of opportunity with the team. Does he want it? If the club can’t re-sign him by the deadline, do they run the risk of losing him for nothing? The investment (third round pick) isn’t severe, but the hole in goal is a monster should he decide to test free agency.
There’s a thousand things we don’t know. Does he enjoy playing for Dallas Eakins? Is he comfortable with this group? Does he feel there will be opportunities elsewhere that are more attractive?
I’m not one to believe Scrivens would refuse an opportunity, hell Justin Schultz chose to come here as a college free agent. Still, there’s some uncertainty here in regard to Scrivens. Should the Oilers roll the dice with the idea they can come to terms with him after the deadline?
