I spoke to Rob Vollman on the Lowdown today, and he put it straight to me: David Legwand is the last available quality option for 2line C at this year’s free agent auction. I’ve heard there are several other teams (Ottawa, Toronto, Buffalo) involved, so we shouldn’t assume Legwand comes to Edmonton on a multi-year deal. If he does? Not bad.

Man that’s a lot of change. MacT’s flushed Gagner, Smyth, Jones, Horc, Hemmer, lordy. The top line can probably be spliced into a pairing (Hall-Nuge) and maybe Eberle can join the second pairing (Draisaitl-Yak) eventually. I think it would be advisable for the Oilers to send the Action Saxon to junior, but Dr. Drai may break on through to the other side this fall (I think the Oilers already have him on the roster, despite all the verbal we’re hearing about no pressure).
- Tyler Dellow with a terrific look at Benoit Pouliot. I hope they keep him on the 3line soft parade, but reading Tyler’s post one suspects Purcell will move to the LD line.
- Jonathan Willis talks about David Legwand over at the Cult of Hockey.
- I wrote about Legwand and Arcobello in the last day.
I didn’t know he was a free agent, but I’d love to see Edmonton pick him up. Loktionov would be in competition with some of the draft picks for a roster spot, but this fellow has some nice things. Skilled, good hands, can do some things.
