This is Mathieu Roy. Roy went to camp last fall, worked like a bugger, impressed, was sent out late in camp, was pissed off, took it out on the opposition, didn’t sulk, earned his way to the show and played well when given the opportunity.
That’s a helluva year for anyone.
Roy was extended a qualifying offer by the Edmonton Oilers today, and along with Raffi Torres and Matt Greene (who were also extended) can look forward to coming to camp with a shot at a job this fall.
Brad Winchester was not extended, as had been predicted.
I think Winchester will get a two way deal with some team (in division the obvious candidate would be Vancouver) and hope he finds his way.
At this time, he remains the most successful Oiler draft (and sign) from 2000.
EDIT TO ADD: The Oilers also qualified Kyle Brodziak, Jeff Deslauriers and Alexei Mikhnov in order to retain their rights. From that list, I’d say Brodziak has a good chance to make the hockey club in the fall (as a 12-14F).
