Bobby Schmautz was my favorite Canuck when they were probably my #2 team (behind the Bruins, before the Oilers) and he was fun to watch. Plus, he went to the Bruins and I liked him there too.
He didn’t like being an Oiler much (according to the story) and was quickly sent away after being acquired by them in 1979-80. I always liked him as a player, though.
The Oilers are in Vancouver tonight to play the Canucks. Despite appearances, these two teams are just three points apart in the standings. However, Edmonton is last and Vancouver is one point out of 9th.
The west is going to be tight all season, due mostly to an improvement in the Detroit division and what looks clearly like an elevator shaft drop in the Edmonton division.
The Pacific is home to the nuts, witness the firing of Dallas’ GM in favor of Bobby Hull’s kid.
The NHL is one of the very few big, big industries where you still see an organization hire a guy with very little experience for a vital job. A quick show of hands: Who thinks this will end well?
Thanks very much for taking part in the survey.
