Emergency Callups
It looks like the Oilers AHL prospects will need to count on injury (which shouldn’t take long) in order to get another look-see at the NHL level this spring.
NHL rules dictate that teams are allowed only so many callups during a season, and after that only “emergency” re-calls are allowed. The Oilers have reached that limit.
I imagine Marc Pouliot would be the odds on favorite for the forwards, with Liam Reddox and Rob Schremp other possibles. Allan Rourke would seem to be the strongest D option.
A couple of other notes this evening: the Falcons have signed D Kenny Smith to a PTO. He was an Oilers draft pick in 2001 and has been more ECHL than AHL since turning pro. Also, Devan Dubnyk is playing tonight and his season SP is up to .910 and I think we may be seeing “the light turning on” for DD at the pro level. In the game tonight, Schremp has two assists, Pouliot one, and Slava Trukhno scored a goal which is a relief for those of us who felt he’d have a bigger AHL impact at age 20.

Reddox and Rourke are scratched tonight as injured. The light is “turning on” in the second period for DD, but not in a good way.
Anyone know what is up with TJ Kemp? He looks like he is Papa Smurf down there based on age and size but he has good numbers. At this stage he might be the best call up on D?
31 shots against after two for Springfield. Lordy.
I suppose being at the limit would be one more reason not to deal veterans for picks at the deadline, right? Then you’d have to call someone up.
Riley Nash 1-1-2 +2 for Cornell tonight. Nice player judging by the math.
Trade to move up and take Riley Nash ’07. Nice surprise.
Maybe we do the same for Joe Colborne ’08?
He’s pretty good, so is Zack Dalpe.
LT, not only did he put up the stats offensively, he went 80 freaking percent in the faceoff dot.
Colour me impressed.
Good day.

I’ll bang this drum again.
In the order of draft position, not IQ scores…
Top three IQs in the ’07 draft:
Kyle Turris
Sam Gagner
Riley Nash
I’ll put my money on young geniuses with skill becoming players who contribute to winning hockey games. But then, intelligence is one of my favourite intangibles to bet on.
