The Edmonton Oilers sent down three today, forward Gilbert Brule and defenders Theo Peckham and Taylor Chorney. They did not send out Rob Schremp, as a death in his family recently meant he had other things to attend to and the Oilers waited a day to send him down (deadline is Wednesday afternoon).
Mathieu Roy and JF Jacques are likely headed to IR so will avoid waivers at this time. There’s a slight chance Roy will be sent down so the Oilers can get him through waivers when passing under the radar might be a little easier (there are some famous players on waivers right now).
I still think the Oilers could be active. They have several trade options:
- The three goalie system is still bothersome to the overall makeup of the roster.
- The gap between Smid and Peckham/Chorney is not as wide as was expected before camp.
- The team still needs a veteran right handed center for the 3line.
- One more veteran D would be a nice addition.
The Oilers are more balanced than they’ve been on takeoff than any other season since the NHL came back from the lockout. A couple of tweaks here and there and this team could be quality from G1, and in a division as close as the NW 2 points in October come in real handy come springtime.
