The Oilers have had a nice run of late and are close to top 8 (alone) as they prepare for the break. Tonight’s game features our Oilers against the Blue Jackets.

I cover the winner through spring. (clap clap).

  1. Matt says:

    Boll’s an interesting player.

Yeah, any idea when that happened? I was looking at their faceoff numbers a couple weeks ago, and Hitch favours him for D-zone draws more than any forward but Malhotra and Peca.

  2. Jonathan says:

Every single time, backhand around the boards to get Smid hit. Every time.

The drop off between the #4/#5 defenseman and the #6/#7 defenseman on this team is astounding.

  3. Lord Bob says:

Bring on Garon! Er, Sabourin! Er, Deslauriers?

  4. Coach pb9617 says:

Ethan Moreau dives…out of the way of the puck to block it.

    Awesome.

  5. hunter1909 says:

    Oh oh.

  6. bookie says:

HOLY crap, better bring up Sabourin…I freaking hope no one claims him on waivers. Its clear that Roli needs some pressure, apparently Garon is good for that.

  7. CM says:

I bet everyone the oilers need to win will win tonight except for us…

  8. Jonathan says:

    @ Matt:

Apparently Boll was one of the players that Hitchcock specifically mentioned liking when he took over as the coach in Columbus.

  9. Lord Bob says:

We need to take up a collection to buy Hemsky bionic legs so he can play sixty minutes a night.

  10. HBomb says:

    Christ, Roloson looks shaky tonight.

  11. Jonathan says:

That was a brutal giveaway by Horcoff on that last shift.

  12. bookie says:

We need to take up a collection to buy Hemsky bionic legs so he can play sixty minutes a night.

I say we just clone 4 or 5 of him and have the Hemsky Quintuplets…

  13. bookie says:

Lift your eyes up Vish, Knees!

  14. Lowetide says:

I’d say the better team is the visiting side tonight. A nice mixture of skill, grit and veteran role players.

  15. Lord Bob says:

It really wasn’t a terrible period for the Oilers, but the Blue Jackets are a good team and they’ll take advantage of your mistakes.

We could sure use Ryan Potulny right now, though!

  16. Jonathan says:

Jason Williams: The man who was instrumental in creating the greatest Blue Jackets blog ever?

  17. Black Dog says:

Jonathan – wouldn’t this be the first? ;)

  18. hunter1909 says:

I’m starting to wonder why Hemsky has to play with those two linemates he’s saddled with.

Stick Cogliano on the “first line” already.

  19. bookie says:

I’d say the better team is the visiting side tonight. A nice mixture of skill, grit and veteran role players.

Yes, but this Oilers team was supposed to be good enough to win despite being a bit ‘unbalanced’, this would allow K.Lowe to make a few ‘Spacek’ trades to balance the team before the deadline and chase the cup… The only problem with the plan was step 1.

That said, CBJ uniforms are ugly and I have no clue where Columbus is….

  20. HBomb says:

The Oilers haven’t played terribly by any stretch, but Columbus has buried their good chances. Roloson’s not having his best night.

  21. Jonathan says:

Fun question, Hunter: Historically, how has Hemsky done in games where he’s played with Cogliano?

  22. HBomb says:

I’m starting to wonder why Hemsky has to play with those two linemates he’s saddled with.

Probably because they’ve got chemistry and they have a history of producing together as a unit.

  23. Schitzo says:

Man, 83 really deserves some secondary scoring tonight. I’d hate to see this performance go to waste

  24. slipper says:

    Ahh, crap.

I’m going for a run. I predict 3 goals for the Oilers in the third.

Souray with the winner in honour of Obama’s being sworn in.

    Clap! Clap!

  25. Lowetide says:

It’s just such an interesting team. They remind me in a small way of the old NYI when they first came into the league: everything comes slowly but the draft and very wise procurement is giving the management a chance to create a very deep team.

I mean, look at their D. Hejda is quality, Tyutin is a guy whose having a nice career and Commodore’s their free agent signing. Meanwhile a bunch of no-names and never-were’s and yet they stay in the lines and make the percentage play all night long.

    It’s a good hockey club.

  26. bookie says:

OK folks, LT is a DOUBLE AGENT, look at this Columbus Blue Jackets blog.

It is written by someone who goes by LTL and looks suspiciously similar to this blog page.

But, look at the comment numbers (3 comments, 2 comments, etc.). I say we help them out and Blog Bomb them with Oilers type blogs. I am sure that LTL would appreciate 400 comments on tonights game.

    Lets go blog

  27. Lord Bob says:

bookie: that can’t be LT; the phrase “Montreal Expos” doesn’t appear once on the entire blog.

  28. bookie says:

We should comment on the Oilers vs BJs blog as opposed to the colin cambell blog.

It will be good practice in case LT drops the Oilers

  29. Dennis says:

I always have a soft spot for Williams considering that he was the stupe that took the penalty that lead to the first Oilers goal in that stirring G6 comeback back in that season that never happened.

I had the Oilers at 7-6 that period; all chances at EV of course.

    In game zeros and heroes:

    - 5/24 a combined 2/0. Nothing happening when they’re on the ice.

    - 27 is clipping along at 4/1.

    - 77 and 37 are taking the lash; 5/8 and 2/5.

Anecdotal: I never saw this mentioned anywhere else so here goes: MacT once again got caught with his last-change-but-you-still-have-your-fourth-line-out-against-the-4th-line pants down.

There’s absolutely no fucking excuse for that garbage.

And don’t look now but Roli’s starting to lag. He looked unprepared on the 2nd goal and the first goal came off a terrible rebound. We’ve only beaten Mason off a nice PP and then a world-class roof from 83 but at least he’s not giving away shit.

    Roli clearly is.

It used to be a favorite recurring theme of the Sun to talk about those dog days games jut before the break but I swear I haven’t read that once so far. Roli in particular looks like he needs a break and the Oilers are too content with staying outside.

Right now they gotta find nine forwards to lean on for the last 20 minutes AND they’re most likely gonna need at least one PP goal as well.

    I don’t like the odds.

  30. hunter1909 says:

Jonathan: A “fun” question coming from you is like getting a ‘fun” question off a traffic cop.

And I’m already bending over backwards trying not to shill for Schremp on the first line with Hemsky.

  31. Loxy says:

    What a terrible night.

  32. Lowetide says:

For the record, I won’t be “dropping the Oilers.” There’ll still be GDT’s and any big items will get mentioned.

However, I will be spending more time on the following:

    1. the upcoming draft
    2. the HHOF pieces I do from time to time
    3. some math stuff
    4. prospect updates
    5. Columbus

  33. Jonathan says:

    Hunter: Fair enough ;)

  34. Dennis says:

So, basically, the Oilers kiss will still be on your list?

    Clap Clap?

  35. Lord Bob says:

    What a terrible night.

Every time we think we’re in, they pull us back out.

  36. Black Dog says:

LT – when you say “math Stuff” are you referring to the new math?

Because that shit is the bomb.

  37. Chris says:

Come on Hemsky, bounce a goal in off Penner’s fat ass.

  38. Lowetide says:

Dennis: Completely drop the Oilers? I Can’t Go For that, No Can Do.

  39. Jonathan says:

I hate to mention this, and break the mood and all, but there’s still better than 18 minutes left in the game.

  40. CM says:

“everything comes slowly but the draft and very wise procurement is giving the management a chance to create a very deep team”

Yeah its pretty amazing what missing the playoffs for 10 straight years will do for your prospect cupboard…

  41. Lord Bob says:

Jonathan: you realise we’re cheering for the Edmonton Oilers, right? :P

  42. Jonathan says:

LT – when you say “math Stuff” are you referring to the new math?

Because that shit is the bomb.

He said “math stuff”? I only ask because I read “meth stuff”.

  43. Black Dog says:

I was always a ‘Sara Smile’ man myself.

  44. Jonathan says:

Lord Bob: We are? I’ve already embraced our new team, the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Although I’ll confess I like that Brodziak guy.

  45. HBomb says:

So how the hell do we come out of that with a penalty?

Moreau, you cannot do that, you’re 200 feet from your own net.

  46. hunter1909 says:

Oilers captain leads the way as always.

  47. Lowetide says:

MATH stuff. Everything I can get out of this baby:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Addiator

  48. Jonathan says:

It’s okay – I hear it’s easy to kill off aggressive penalties.

  49. Coach pb9617 says:

Dennis, what are the totals on the forward line chances?

  50. bookie says:

Oh man, this CBJ blogger is going to wake up to a bunch of weird “clap claps” on his blog tomorrow. I am betting that he is just happy for the attention. My God, 3 comments on a GD? Maybe you should go to CBJ LT, it seems they need fans like you.

  51. hunter1909 says:

Salo’s having a shaky game. He needs to settle down.

Might be time to start thinking about putting Markannen in there.

  52. HBomb says:

Goddammit, how much better would this team be with Hejda to partner with Visnovsky and a 3rd pairing of Grebeshkov/Smid?

Staios looks like absolute garbage out there – the guy cannot advance the puck out of his own zone.

  53. Phil says:

I haven’t been watching too many games lately, but decided to tune in tonight. Man, what a horrible effort so far. Almost no forecheck, lots of floating; half the team seems afraid to go to the corners.

*MacT taps #89 on the shoulder* “You do know that we’re the team wearing blue, right?”

    89 – “Oh.”

  54. dubya says:

    It’s a good hockey club.

Yeah, but is it your hockey club?

It sure ain’t mine. Write about whomever you’d like, obviously, but reading about the Blue Jackets is about as exciting as reading about the Indian Fever to me.

Mostly I find it unfair that Roli letting in a couple weak goals should deprive me of a daily read. Booooooooooooo Jackets.

  55. Lord Bob says:

God, now we’re getting tooled on by Christian Backman (possibly of “-Turner Overdrive” fame, which would fit in with the whole eighties motif).

  56. Jonathan says:

Somebody better tune in Boll – he just ran the goalie.

  57. HBomb says:

Is the MacBlender going right now? Last three shifts have been Moreau-Cogliano-Hemsky, Nilsson-Horcoff-Gagner, and then Penner-Brule-Brodziak…..

  58. Lord Bob says:

God, if Roloson just started feeding Torres right hands to the face now, it would almost make up for this whole crappy period.

  59. bookie says:

That Torres kid looks awesome, though I hear he is not consistent.

We could make him consistent with good coaching.

  60. Phil says:

    Finally some emotion.

  61. Scott says:

God, if Roloson just started feeding Torres right hands to the face now, it would almost make up for this whole crappy period.

Prayer does help in times like these.

  62. HBomb says:

I vote for one MacIntyre shift, with the instructions of “Run Mason”. I like nuclear warfare.

  63. Coach pb9617 says:

Boll should be in the box for charging and tender interference and these better not be offsetting.

  64. bookie says:

If the blender is out we are done.

I am beginning to think it is some kind of sick approach to motivation – “If you guys don’t play well, I will screw your lines up so bad that you will never get a point. See how that plays in your next contract negotiation”

  65. LittleFury says:

I’m watching the Columbus feed and these guys are full of shit. Boll was apparently minding his business when he got shoved into Roloson by Staios, despite starting his journey into Roli’s fist a good three feet outside the blue paint.

  66. HBomb says:

Does anyone else still think that Mike Commodore is a gigantic douchebag?

Yes, he played for the Flames five years ago and won the Cup with Carolina three years ago, but still….

  67. Lowetide says:

    Boll’s another nice player.

  68. Coach pb9617 says:

I vote for one MacIntyre shift, with the instructions of “Run Mason”. I like nuclear warfare.

    The captain should do it.

  69. Jonathan says:

I’m watching the Columbus feed and these guys are full of shit. Boll was apparently minding his business when he got shoved into Roloson by Staios, despite starting his journey into Roli’s fist a good three feet outside the blue paint.

Yep. The Columbus play-by-play crew don’t seem all that sharp, for lots of different reasons.

  70. HBomb says:

Erik Cole draws a penalty on Backman.

    Who’s that knocking? Opportunity?

  71. Lowetide says:

This would be an excellent time to score. Hall & Oates: make it SO!

  72. Scott says:

Cole seriously has a special talent for this. That seemed like a pretty nothing play.

  73. Jonathan says:

    Jan Hejda – damn you.

  74. bookie says:

I’m watching the Columbus feed and these guys are full of shit. Boll was apparently minding his business when he got shoved into Roloson by Staios, despite starting his journey into Roli’s fist a good three feet outside the blue paint.

All announcers do that. Listening to Rod Phillips you would think the Oilers destroy the other team in every fight.

  75. Phil says:

Jesus. Why is Gagner in the NHL again?

  76. Lowetide says:

Man that was a poor PP there folks. U-r-g-e-n-c-y.

  77. hunter1909 says:

lol is Gagner useless, or am I being too harsh?

  78. HBomb says:

Ales Hemsky is a god of some sort.

    Tie game.

  79. Jonathan says:

    Thank you, Ales.

  80. Lowetide says:

Or Hemsky. Hemsky is also a good option. Hemsky.

  81. Lord Bob says:

Ales Hemsky just destroyed the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Is it too early to pull down the Gretzky statue and put a Hemsky statue in its place?

  82. Scott says:

Take that LT! Clap! and dare I say Clap!

  83. Chris says:

It would really be nice if this team could score goals without Ales Hemsky being involved.

  84. HBomb says:

Item for debate: is it at the point yet where we can safely declare Ales Hemsky the best player to don the Oiler uniform since Messier left town?

  85. Chris! says:

Just tunes into my first Oilers game in months and GREBEEEESHKOOOOVVVVVV

  86. Lord Bob says:

Item for debate: is it at the point yet where we can safely declare Ales Hemsky the best player to don the Oiler uniform since Messier left town?

It’s been at that point for some time.

  87. Lord Bob says:

Just tunes into my first Oilers game in months and GREBEEEESHKOOOOVVVVVV

Chris!, your TV is hooked up directly to the hockey gods. Use this power for good, not evil.

  88. Chris says:

Hemsky is at least as good as Weight or Smyth ever were.

  89. Lord Bob says:

And Raffi Torres with a dangerous giveaway! Ah, it’s just like old times!

  90. goldenchild says:

Good lord 83 is a beast. can we concuss the rest of these fucks?

  91. Lowetide says:

    Yes. I’d say Hemsky.

  92. HBomb says:

    Fuck me. Wow.

Ok, best individual Oiler perfomance since when?

  93. Lord Bob says:

    ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?

    I’M SORRY LOWETIDE

BUT ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?

  94. Coach pb9617 says:

    Alien.

  95. Ribs says:

I think I just pooped my pants.

    Probably.

    *Clap, Clap*

  96. Phil says:

    Haha. The Edmonton Hemskys.

  97. Chris says:

Good lord we could play Hemsky with our AHL team and have won this game. If there was ever any doubt Ales Hemsky has arrived, I think they should be dismissed. He’s the best god damn player on the ice and just took this game over.

  98. Scott says:

    Okay.
    Holy crap.
    What an awesome chant.

  99. bookie says:

My goodness, I think that the Oilers should hit Hemsky in the head again – if this is what concussions do for him, keep hitting!

  100. Chris! says:

    oh my god HEEEMMMMMMMMMMMSKYYYYYYY

    Four fucking points, man! Shit.

  101. Bank Shot says:

I guess Hemsky likes your blog.

  102. Loxy says:

Okay, sure, I got stood up tonight.

But Ales Hemsky does know how to make me feel better.

  103. marriedtotheoil says:

You should issue ultimatums more often. Ales really seems to respond.

  104. HBomb says:

I am bordering on downright arousal right now.

  105. Chris says:

And he was trying for another goal..damn. Well LT we now demand that you put aside that hussy the Columbus Bluejackets.

  106. Lowetide says:

You know, that’s Guy Lafleur right there. I’m not saying he IS Guy Lafleur, but that was Lafleur.

    Seriously.

  107. Black Dog says:

    So.

    This Hemsky guy.

    A keeper?

    Discuss amongst yourselves.

  108. bookie says:

Yes, Weight was good and there were times that he made you feel like that, but Hemsky is special.

Did you see Hemsky totally chopping that guy with about 6 seconds left – the guy is a winner!!

  109. quain says:

I like Penner a lot better when Hemsky is healthy. Sure he’s still pretty fat and slow, and doesn’t try very hard, but that bowling ball move to make space for Hemmer’s shot that has scored us two goals in two games?

    Gorgeous.

  110. PunjabiOil says:

    Holy shit!

    What a game.

And the image relating to this thread illustrates the game.

  111. hunter1909 says:

I’m glad the Oilers read Lowetide during the game; Gagner made a nice play on Nash just after I chewed him out publicly.

  112. Coach pb9617 says:

    LT is, uh, prescient.

Look at the picture that heads this post.

  113. Loxy says:

    clap clap

  114. uni says:

No need to feel shame about it. This game was just plain sexy…or maybe that’s just Hemsky.

Everytime I start feeling apathy about this team and think I’m free, they just reel you right back in. Bastards.

  115. bookie says:

I like Penner a lot better when Hemsky is healthy. Sure he’s still pretty fat and slow, and doesn’t try very hard, but that bowling ball move to make space for Hemmer’s shot that has scored us two goals in two games?

    That’s called a balanced line!

  116. Lord Bob says:

Stan Weir conceived Ales Hemsky after a torrid night with the hockey gods themselves.

  117. Coach pb9617 says:

    I feel drunk and I haven’t drank.

  118. Scott says:

    Hemsky scores the goal
    Ales Hemsky saves the blog!
    Hemsky loved by all

  119. Steve says:

Item for debate: is it at the point yet where we can safely declare Ales Hemsky the best player to don the Oiler uniform since Messier left town?

    CFP?

  120. Lord Bob says:

    CFP?

Pronger had peak value, but Hemsky has sustain. Plus, his peak value in 2008-09 is arguable higher than Pronger’s was in 2006.

  121. goldenchild says:

I know when we mix sports metaphors here it’s baseball but Hemsky does for this team what great point guards do in the NBA, he controls the play draws all the attention and let’s guys play to their strengths. Now its like he has added a jumper so he is starting to make teams pay for backing off. He is about to Chris Paul the NHL

  122. Matt says:

I realize that Sportsnet has their standard procedures and gimmicks, but the “Game Story” should just have been a giant ’83′ on the screen.

Noting Roloson’s 20 saves, etc. just cheapens it.

  123. HBomb says:

Pronger’s the only guy you can argue against Hemsky since Messier, methinks.

    Anyways…

    Eighty-three

    CLAP

    We’re watching you

    CLAP CLAP

    Making the B-J’s cry…..

  124. Lowetide says:

I just liked the photo. That was terrific right there and the good thing is the Oilers enter the break ahead of some people. I mean it isn’t 1st in the conference but they don’t need a ’27 Yankees Murderer’s row run in the second half.

  125. Black Dog says:

Yotes are winning so sixth or seventh depending on the Canucks.

    Not bad.

Now if only Hemsky would shoot more.

  126. PunjabiOil says:

    Game thoughts:

    1) Roloson let a unnecessary juicy rebound on the first goal, and should have had the third one as well. After that though, he was lights out.

    2) Erik Cole’s name won’t show up on the score sheet, but that penalty drawn was vital.

    3) Smid nicely developing in front of us.

    4) There are three certainties in life. Death, taxes, and Ethan Moreau taking a penalty in the offensive zone on a regular basis.

    Nice block attempt too

    5) Ales Hemsky, great player?

    6) ICE BREAKERS Sour (Apple, Tangerine, Watermelon) are fucking delicious.

  127. gary b says:

“And yea, Weir doth laid his hands upon the concussed Hemsky in his time of suffering, and thus #83 was transformed. Ales Hemsky, Alien Cyborg Weir-God-Child from the Future.

    And it was good.”

  128. Black Dog says:

And two games in hand on Anaheim, Vancouver and Phoenix, have to win them but …

Loxy – no more dates until the end of June, eh? ;)

    Ales won’t stand you up.

    Clap clap

  129. Ribs says:

[Self-quote] – I figured the Oil had a chance in this one because Ovie’s slumping (as much as he can slump) and I wouldn’t be too suprised if they go on a tear here and win 3 of the next 4 with some good goaltending.

…Then the All-Star break will take away any momentum they had and they’ll slide for awhile again…..And then the annual push!

Hoepfully the slide doesn’t last too long now.

  130. hunter1909 says:

Nice to see them at least in decent position for the stretch drive, instead of being 10 points back and desperate as fuck.

    93 points.

  131. Chris says:

Conklin continues to hurt the Oilers playoff chances.

  132. Cory Klein says:

If you have PVR, save the last 3 minutes of this game. The shifts starting with Hemsky’s second last shift are just incredible.

The sheer effort and desire to win are the same as the span at the end of last year. Except Hemsky has some added amazingness.

  133. knighttown says:

This place is not much for lists but in a salary cap vacuum, which forwards would you trade for Hemsky straight up.

Obviously- Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, Iginla, Lecavalier, Thornton

Probably- Mike Richards,Getzlaf, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Hossa, Heatley

And then a whole bunch of guys I’d have to think about (Carter, Parise, Kovie, Vanek etc.)

  134. Lord Bob says:

At their current contracts, I’d rather have Hemsky than Iginla, Lecavalier, Hossa, and Vanek for sure.

  135. jon k says:

Does anyone know where you can find the games recorded online a la PVR?

I want to see this again.

The last two games have been complete contrasts of each other, but both equally amazing.

  136. Loxy says:

Loxy – no more dates until the end of June, eh? ;)

    Shouldn’t be too hard.

    Sigh.

  137. Cory Klein says:

Why did the Hall & Oates youtube link get deleted?

  138. knighttown says:

Sorry LB, that should have read “salary vacuum” which makes no sense…so…

ignoring salary, which players do you trade Hemsky for?

  139. Jonathan says:

The Western Conference, pending results from Vancouver (PTS/GP):

    3. Calgary: 58/45
    4. Chicago: 58/44
    5. Phoenix: 53/48
    6. Edmonton: 51/46
    7. Anaheim: 51/49
    8. Vancouver: 50/47

    9. Minnesota: 49/47
    10. Columbus: 48/46
    11. Colorado: 47/46
    12. Dallas: 45/44

No worse than 7th, no matter what, and 5th in winning percentage. A nice run after the ASG could even bring Calgary within sight.

Okay, that last bit was unreasonably optimistic. I’ll settle for 6th in the West.

  140. Dennis says:

GC: It’s funny that you mentioned a hoops analogy because while watching the game i thought if I was Hitch I’d just put two guys on Ales so that he wouldn’t be able to get the passes off;)

I thought it was funny how they were backing him off so much, just so afraid that he’d find the open guy.

And with a little over a min left in the third I am begging for the 89 line to change just so he’d have one more chance to win the game for us.

I honestly can’t think of another time when a guy single-handedly lifted us like he did tonight. He set up 71 perfectly, he schooled Mason, he hauled Mason out of the net to the point where 37 had basically an open net and then he strolls down the slot like he has all the time in the world and if the fucker stopped time and placed the puck with his hand, it wouldn’t have been any better situated.

Just wow. Seriously. I haven’t geeked out like that in a long time.

  141. HBomb says:

Why did the Hall & Oates youtube link get deleted?

Posted the wrong one – wanted the full version of the song.

After every win people….it needs to be played, listened to, sung out loud, EMBRACED.

  142. Lowetide says:

Loxy: West coast men are dullards.

  143. Lord Bob says:

Loxy: West coast men are dullards.

Yeah, thanks for that, buddy. :P

  144. HBomb says:

Loxy: West coast men are dullards.

    Exhibit A: Canuck fans.

  145. PunjabiOil says:

    Taken from the other board:

Hemsky is now first in PPG among all RW’ers.

    1) Hemsky: 1.1389
    2) Iginla: 1.1334
    3) St Louis: 1.000
    4) Hossa: 1.000

  146. Jonathan says:

Forwards that I’d trade Hemsky for (salary disregarded):

    Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin, Datsyuk, Zetterberg

There’s undoubtedly a few more, but Lecavalier doesn’t even enter the equation.

With salary taken into account, though, I don’t know if there’s a forward outside of those five that I’d trade Hemsky for.

  147. Lowetide says:

Oops. Shoot. Except for Lord Bob. Damn.

  148. Loxy says:

Loxy: West coast men are dullards.

The guy who stood me up is all Edmonton. Born and raised.

  149. knighttown says:

    Jonathan:

If there has to be a team in front of us, I’m glad it’s Phoenix. I just don’t think that is a playoff team in the brutal Western Conference just yet. They’ve been incredibly healthy (2nd fewest man games lost). They’re due for a slide.

Anaheim, Vancouver and Minnesota could stay ahead of the Oilers even if they play well and any of those other teams including Dallas could pass the Oilers if they fall back to their inconsistent ways.

  150. dubya says:

I am bordering on downright arousal right now.

Bordering? I’m ready for a cigarette and a nap.

    Clap! Clap!

  151. Jonathan says:

A few weeks ago, Terry Jones was whining that Hemsky wasn’t spending enough time with the media, and Damien Cox suggested that Lowe signing him to a long term deal was a mistake.

    Tools, both of them.

  152. Chris says:

Aww, I’m sure there are plenty of guys out there more than willing to put an end to that sort of slump Loxy. You just need to make a good free agent signing.

  153. Loxy says:

Who is the league’s best player not going to the All-Star game?

  154. LittleFury says:

Loxy: West coast men are dullards.

Whether I qualify as a west coast man or not is another subject, but it’s tough to argue with this assessment, given that I turned the streaming feed off in disgust just about a minute before Grebs scored, thus missing the big finale. Come on!

  155. Lowetide says:

Loxy: Well then he took many mushrooms when he got off the Greyhound. I got a hundred of ‘em. :-)

BD: I remember both of those items. Jones is just mad he had to work for something and Cox is well-named.

  156. HBomb says:

    Jonathan:

    Two things…

    1) Terry Jones can kiss the south end of a northbound skunk.

    2) 6th in the west means a first round date with Calgary. I’d LOVE it.

  157. Lowetide says:

Well I guess you won’t have to endure my “What IS a Blue Jacket?” item tomorrow. :-)

  158. Loxy says:

You just need to make a good free agent signing.

I am in Vancouver… where the guys are overrated, old or pathetic.

  159. Coach pb9617 says:

    Obviously- Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin,

    Yup

    Iginla, Lecavalier, Thornton

Probably not, definitely not, probably not.

Probably- Mike Richards,Getzlaf, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Hossa, Heatley

Maybe, no, no, yes, no, no.

    Zetterberg is a UFA.

  160. Chris says:

Its the least cool way of making a militaristic reference the name of a hockey team LT.

  161. Loxy says:

Instead of finding a boyfriend for the first time in four years… I think I’ll just hang out with you guys here every second night.

When I watch the Oilers have 2:1 odds…

  162. Lowetide says:

Chris: I thought it was a bee?

  163. knighttown says:

    Forwards to trade Hemsky for:

I’d take a long, long look at Mike Richards. I’ve got this sneaking suspicion that he could play every center in the NHL to a draw or better over a 7 game series and that says something. I look forward to some classic Pens-Flyers series over the next decade. The Bobby Clarke comparisons may have actually been LOW, if that’s not sacrilegious.

(btw, why the hell is that word not spelled sac-religious?) Fucking English. Tough language for us “english as a second language” types. I’m from Cape Breton.

If you don’t know where that is, substitute Newfoundland for Cape Breton, it makes more sense.

  164. HBomb says:

All things considered, forwards I’d take over Hemsky right now?

    Ovechkin, Malkin, Crosby, Datsyuk, Zetterberg

Maybe to Getzlaf. Toews is in this discussion a year from now.

  165. Lowetide says:

Loxy: That’s exactly when someone arrives. The exact moment you say to hell with it.

Canucks looking strong against the Oakland Seals here.

  166. Lord Bob says:

I am in Vancouver… where the guys are overrated, old or pathetic.

Every man in Vancouver is Ethan Moreau. I can live with that.

  167. HBomb says:

Ok, I’d give a maybe to Mike Richards to.

Guys that could potentially be argued, for one reason or another? Thornton, Iginla, Lecavalier, Hossa, Heatley, Kovalchuk, Kane, Nash.

When you account for contract though…..I don’t know if there’s a better value in the league not named “Zetterberg” right now.

Without question, he’s in the top twenty forwards in the league.

  168. Chris says:

Pretty sure I read that it was a reference to Union soldiers in the civil war referring to the Blue Jackets that they wore.

A quick trip to google later and http://bluejackets.nhl.com/team/app?service=page&page=NHLPage&bcid=new_his_timeline#1997

"11-11-97 Team officials announce that the name of the franchise will be the Blue Jackets, celebrating patriotism, pride and the rich Civil War history in the state of Ohio and, city of Columbus."

  169. Dennis says:

To keep on the Hall and Oates theme, tonight the Oilers were a Rich Girl who relied on the old man’s money ( Hemsky.)

I can’t tell you how many times 12 was given the duty of carrying the puck and he’d go just over the blue and then pull up and turn over the puck. And the 89/26 duo’s having some trouble striking.

We’ve put ourselves in the mix and points are points but he home play frustrates me.

Here’s the way I saw it, scoring chance wise.

  170. knighttown says:

    Loxy:

i wouldn't say there is any lack of attention from men. I just did an unofficial study:

Profile views for random "famous posters"

    H-Bomb (no picture)- >300 views
Black Dog (picture of his horse)- >3500 views

    Loxy (intriguing picture) – >17000!

    maybe they like your camera?

  171. Coach pb9617 says:

A few weeks ago, Terry Jones was whining that Hemsky wasn’t spending enough time with the media, and Damien Cox suggested that Lowe signing him to a long term deal was a mistake.

    Tools, both of them.

Sure, he carries the team, but he doesn’t talk to the media. You can’t put a price tag on access.

  172. knighttown says:

    He’s pulling your leg Chris…

  173. Coach pb9617 says:

Well I guess you won’t have to endure my “What IS a Blue Jacket?” item tomorrow. :-)

You should run that – that’s a neat story.

  174. HBomb says:

    When did I become “famous”?

When I watch the Oilers have 2:1 odds…

You’re surrounded by old married men and guys that can’t remember Messier. I’m thinking you have no prospects here :)

  176. quain says:

    When did I become “famous”?

When I made these wicked sweet Lowetide Commentators collector’s cards. There’s an HBomb, an LB, a Jonathan, a Loxy, and even a Hunter rookie card!

  177. knighttown says:

I can’t tell you how many times 12 was given the duty of carrying the puck and he’d go just over the blue and then pull up and turn over the puck. And the 89/26 duo’s having some trouble striking.

OH! OH! Can I answer that one? Is it EVERY? Well, there was that one time where he tried to go wide and Marc Methot, better known as the 2nd coming of Scott Stevens, utterly destroyed him.

It’s gotten to the point where I can’t really remember why he was so damn good last year. I mean, he was #1 or #2 in EV pts/60…can someone with a better memory give some sort of scouting report from last winter?

  178. HBomb says:

When I made these wicked sweet Lowetide Commentators collector’s cards. There’s an HBomb, an LB, a Jonathan, a Loxy, and even a Hunter rookie card!

Sweet….which convenience stores are these available at?

I figure a Jonathan Willis rookie card could be worth something in a few years.

  179. mc79hockey says:

As is well known, all of the cool guys live in Toronto these days. Centre of the universe, etc.

Gotta say, those of us bitching about Hemsky coming back too soon are looking rather foolish.

  180. Coach pb9617 says:

I can’t tell you how many times 12 was given the duty of carrying the puck and he’d go just over the blue and then pull up and turn over the puck.

If he ever learns to make his moves at high speed and every once in awhile just bowl someone over, he’ll be fun to watch.

    If not, he’s George Ferguson.

  181. HBomb says:

I don’t know, but when Pisani gets back, MAYBE it’s time to get Cogliano with Gagner and Cole, run out 18-78-34 in a checking capacity, and perhaps get creative with the fourth line in the form of something like Nilsson-Brodziak-Brule, with Stortini and MacIntyre available for occasional “muscle” when needed?

Better yet….Nilsson for Vermette to play on the 3rd line. Golden.

  182. mc79hockey says:

When I made these wicked sweet Lowetide Commentators collector’s cards. There’s an HBomb, an LB, a Jonathan, a Loxy, and even a Hunter rookie card!

The Hunter card features him holding a bat with “FUCKFACE” clearly written on the knob.

  183. jon k says:

You’re surrounded by old married men and guys that can’t remember Messier. I’m thinking you have no prospects here :)

Hey some of us students are in between.

  184. HBomb says:

Meanwhile, over on Oilfans, guys are STILL complaining about how much Horcoff sucks in the post-game thread, and how it would be awesome if Hemsky actually had real linemates to play with.

    Good lord….

  185. B.C.B. says:

Quin: I’ll trade you a RiverQ, a Dennis, and a Vic Ferrari trading cards for your Loxy?

What do you mean no, that is most of the IOF for the rare female poster card.

    Please!

  186. goldenchild says:

dennis he’s an impossible guard right now. If you try to stand him up or rush him he inside outs you like it’s pee wee. If you give him space he finds a guy cutting behind you with a pass that is always on time and ok the tape. And now if you back off he will fire away and bury you. Add that hes fearless and wants to be the man and he is basically Isiah Thomas on skates.

    Probably

Btw I live in van but I don’t know what dullard means so I may or may not be one.

    clap clap

  187. knighttown says:

    When did I become “famous”?

You’re our resident mixologist. I mix drugs for a living and you mix booze. At least I hope you do it for a living. If not, I think it’s time for an intervention.

  188. B.C.B. says:

Quain: sorry for spelling your name wrong.

  189. HBomb says:

Ok, scanning my memory bank all the way back to the legendary Messier Game 4 performance against Chicago some 19 years ago, the best individual performances by forwards I can remember would be in back to back games.

Weight in game 3, Guerin in game 4, 2000 playoffs against Dallas.

And neither of those top what Hemsky did tonight.

Any other nominations? I’m having a seriously hard time trying to find something to top 83′s symphony of skill tonight….

  190. HBomb says:

You’re our resident mixologist. I mix drugs for a living and you mix booze. At least I hope you do it for a living. If not, I think it’s time for an intervention.

Not for a living, but I did learn the skills in university.

E.I.T. Soon to be PEng. That should explain everything.

  191. knighttown says:

The Hunter card features him holding a bat with “FUCKFACE” clearly written on the knob.

I knew someone would come with something harsh but WOW. Even Hunter was probably holding his breath waiting to see what the response was going to be.

I’ve never typed ROFL before and as a 33 year old man, I probably never should again, but I understand why that compu-slang term was invented.

  192. mc79hockey says:

I knew someone would come with something harsh but WOW. Even Hunter was probably holding his breath waiting to see what the response was going to be.

I’ve resolved, in my old age, to only be harsh if I can also reference something obscure. Keeps me more pleasant to be around.

  193. B.C.B. says:

HBomb: Randford against the Bruins in the first game of the 90′s Stanely Cup Finals. I just remember hiding under the covers for three overtime periods afraid if I opened my eyes the Bruins would scores.

  194. knighttown says:

Good lord H-Bomb, life in Alberta must be very rich if you make those drinks in university. Frangellico with Cointreau and a zest of lemon? No word of a lie, I put grape Crosby’s drink crystals in Great White brand wine for my university drunks.

…and I just threw up a little in my mouth…

  195. Lord Bob says:

Ales Hemsky in that last (or was it second-last) game against San Jose in 2006 when he decided “no, I think we’re going to the playoffs” and hauled us in by sheer strength of will.

  196. Coach pb9617 says:

Gotta say, those of us bitching about Hemsky coming back too soon are looking rather foolish.

    I wouldn’t take you for a results-oriented guy.

  197. HBomb says:

BCB – The Ranford one is a gooder, but I’m not counting goalies in the discussion. Otherwise, there’s a few Cujo playoff wins that might enter into the discussion.

  198. Lord Bob says:

Actually, when we’re talking about best Oilers since Messier, I did forget abut Cujo. There’s a guy who deserves to be somewhere in the top three.

  199. Jonathan says:

Hemsky in Game 6 against Detroit was pretty big.
