If they do trade him, I hope it isn’t to Edmonton. He’s a terrific player but the contract is an absolute killer and stretches through much of the rest of my lifetime.
It would mean that this 8-year build would need to climax in mid-flight (with Hemsky likely gone the other way, mind you) change the direction of the season, finds it way back through the heart of the Western Conference and bring the Northwest to its knees by spring.

Further, it demands the Oilers contend in the next couple of seasons before paying the downside contracts of several players in their 30s making good dough. It would mean moving the cluster back in the other direction again (toward the aged from youth) and guarantee that the Edmonton Oilers endured the build without enjoying the long sustain.
Peak Value will have avoided Edmonton for an entire generation.
