RLR at Top Prospects Game
I don’t think it’s ever been offered to the public (at no charge) before, but this item from Redline Report on the top prospects game is gold.

Simon Despres/LD – Saint John. 6-3/214. 27 Jul 91. Got involved physically and moved the puck well. Used his size/strength and strong skating ability to take away ice and force forwards wide. Does a good job squaring up to puckhandlers and angling them off to corners.
Big boy is going to be a beast.
By the way – I walked outside today and my thermometer read 18. It promptly hooked me 195 feet away from it’s own net.
Nathan Lieuwen/G-L – Kootenay. 6-5/180. 08 Aug 91. The big fellow had a very tough game, playing way too deep in his net and appearing to be indecisive and unsure of himself, getting caught in between several times, particularly with his puckhandling. Played his angles poorly and kicked out a few big rebounds.
I’ve seen quite a few Ice games this year… the kid is much better than this. The team is currently in a playoff spot, while running with a squad that currently has zero NHL draft picks and whose best forward is out for the season. Without Lieuwen these guys are toast.
Also great coaching… dating back to Cory Cloustons days here.
I’m starting the “Zack Kassian for Gagner’s wing” movement.
Anyone want to join? Punch and pie will be served at meetings.
Coach – thanks for the chuckle
I just can’t believe how big 18 year olds are these days. The grocery bills must be depressing.
@doritogrande: I’m on board. The Oil will be drafting in the 10-20 range. He might still be available.

i fully expect all the guys we draft this year to have size. We seem to go one way or the other. One year it’s speed, the other size.
To the current roster, what deals do we hope to see? i have one deal that solves a lot of our problems, and most of it came from other boards where this team’s fans want these guys.
Moreau, Staios and Cole (throw in a prsopect if needed)
for
vermette, Volchenkov and neil
Ottawa seems to have some strange notion they can make the playoffs, and they are one of the teams after Cole. If tambellini and KLowe can sell them on the veteran buddies of jason Smith (moreau and Staios) and we get younger, and we add a bit of long term salary. Then you move cogs back to the kid line, and have vermette between pisani and neil. Oh the value of dreaming.
Anyone want to join? Punch and pie will be served at meetings.
Obvious HBomb questions – will the punch be spiked? If not, can I spike it?
And what sort of pie are we talking about? Poontang pie?
Regardless, I’m in. This Kassian fellow has me intrigued.
DBO,
The Sens are not contenders looking for veteran help.
Zeros across the board on that deal.
Re:18
Can we just not talk about him anymore. Like Herpes, “He who shall not be named” will just go away if we ignore him. Right?
Just our luck that the most fragile player in history has a full skeleton transplant in the off season. When he was useful, we couldn’t keep him in the lineup and now that he’s a piece of shit he’s fucking Cal Ripkin.
Hbomb:
a: spike away
b: “like warm apple pie”
Matt N:
Please tell me you’re missing a number in there somewhere. As much as I’d love, LOVE a guy scoring at over 5 ppg I don’t exactly think it possible.
Gretzky with size? Excuse me, I have to change underwear.
George B: actually Melnyk and their management keep making noises they want to make a run. I agree it’s crazy, but Cole is linked to them, and because Moreau and Staios are signed and are hard nosed vets, it’s the kind of move I could actually see to “change the culture” in Ottawa. One mans trash is anothers treausre. like i said at the end of my last post, dare to dream but based on what the media thoughout the hockey world has said, Moreau is considered a great leader and Staios is the kind of hard nosed dman that contenders want. I think those three could get us something. At this point i’ll take anything, just get them off the books and let Souray and Horcof be the team leaders.

His pretty +/- numbers might be a product of the “Tokarski” effect. Spokane has the lowest GAA in the W.
The fourth round pick, if it’s not traded, should be devoted to the best available Finnish goalie.
Coach:
I’m not liking the Finn goalie prospects the past couple of years. It seems more good ones are coming out of Sweden than Finland these days. That’s where I’d go at least.
Ouch for Tyson Barrie
Now that is a table hockey game.
Who remembers the old tin ones, with the players printed identically on both sides?
Oh I certainly do. When I was wee my older brothers got one where the players were all Strudwicks, rooted to one spot where they could spin but not move up and down the ice. There were ten distinct circles on the playing surface, where sticks of competing players came just close enough that the puck could always be played by one or both of them. There were little ridges between the two defencemen’s circles which prevented the puck from going behind the net.
As a kid I used to play on an even older version. My friend had a mini-game with just three players aside, a G, a D and an F. He also had replacement tin men wearing all Original Six jerseys, so we could have a league, whereas other table hockey games in my life came with just two teams, invariablethe Leafs and Habs. That game used a large marble rather than a puck, and little slopes in places that would force the marble back into play. It was crude, but lots of fun. Philip and I played a lot of games on that thing.
One Christmas around 1965 or so the three of us brothers got a brand new game with the tracks that players could slide up and down there areas and the overlap of sticks was enough to allow physical combat between players. One defenceman could go all the way behind the net (in other versions one attacking winger could do that). The goalie could not only move left and right but he could come out and cut down the angle. He couldn’t, however, do the butterfly.
Nowadays kids sit on their couches rather than the edges of their hard wooden chairs, manipulating remote controls while electrons patterned on real NHLers perform fantasy manouevres from the sublime to the ridiculous. In the process, said kids learn sweet fuck all about the laws of physics.
There you go again Bruce, you bitter old fart, another gentle stroll down memory lane detouring into yet another rant. Stop here.
There was this ancient game in the basement handed down for generations lol it had an electirc buzzer that sometimes worked for the periods…yeah the marble takes the place when the puck gets lost…
The game in the basement only two teams, habs and leafs and they were this hard steel the players lol with every face identical except the goalies who smiles more no masks lol.
These players were on runners but only had this weird movement where they could spin around fast but you couldnt really get them to go anywhere during the games.
Its games like that which are the reason Canada is good at hockey, btw, lol.
The best is when you get 4 players I would always want to be defence because I knew that if I spun my defencemen around quick enough no way were there going to be a lot of goals.
Those games really are a lot like the real thing. Oilers players need to play us bloggers in a winner take all table hockey tournament we will kill them lol.
Yeah, I had a winger who was just like Chopper.
all Strudwicks, rooted to one spot where they could spin but not move up and down the ice
tee-hee

That was the Dwayne Roloson edition.
One defenceman could go all the way behind the net (in other versions one attacking winger could do that).
You may be describing “The Captain” edition here if I rememeber correctly. There was a winger who could go from one end of the ice to the other in a straight line except a large ridge divided this player from all the others. Once the puck got in this ridge it could not come out for any reason. It was like a dead zone. We’d call time out and someone would reach in and pick the puck out and put it somewhere else so the game could continue.
My game was fucked up though as sometimes that winger would just reach across his ridge and hit people with his stick like a retarded samurai. Anyway, I just tore him off his metal peg and put him in my shredder.

If not for the second paragraph, that sounds exactly like my Erik Cole edition. Surprising.
Comrie to the Sens for a 1st. What in the hell are they doing in Ottawa?
Schitzo:
I've got it as Comrie and Campoli for McAmmond and the first.
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=410283&navid=DL|NHL|Home
And it’s the one they got from the Sharks.
Well, I guess the Shark’s 1st is basically 30th overall at this point. Still, if they wanted Campoli so bad they probably could have offer-sheeted him for less than 1st rounder money.
Cole to BOS for Colbourne rumour floating around – I’d be OK with that – makes some sense for both sides as well.
5 picks in the first two rounds for the Islanders.
That’s how you do a rebuild successfully. Are you listening Brian Burke
Islanders get Tavares/Hedman and a very high first from the loser Sens, who having traded for that worthless piece of human trash have officially announced to the NHL that they’re losers.
Comrie makes me so mad even Lowe becomes a cool dude by comparison.
Dont Worry!
Rumor has it Tambelinni and Lowe are about to land Kovalchuck, for Oiler spare parts.
i knew schremp would pay off. kovalchuk = cup.
at this point ottawa is a buyer (crazy as it sounds). Come on Tamblowe, send them Cole and one of the wonder twins (Moreau and Staios) for Vermette and Volchenkov.
AO where did you hear the Cole for Cobourne rumor? I’ve thought it, never read it..

The Sens sent SJ’s pick to the Isles. Good chance it’ll be 30th overall or very close.

Agreed.
Though you guys better be careful. Talk like that and mc79hockey will decree that you’re Terry Jones.
Sean – just internet fluff – could be real – could be fantasy but it does make some sense. I would be happy with something like:
Cole and Moreau
for
Coubourne and Thorton
Yeah, that would be a nice trade. Here’s hoping 18 can stay out of the sin-bin long enough to not scuttle such a move.
AO is getting it from HF – it’s the only source mentioning it. Boston isn’t giving up Colbourne for Cole.
