10 Questions (Trade Deadline)

The trade deadline is upon us and we’ve reached a point where questions have been answered. Some of the answers are obvious, others will be Thursday and still others will need to be addressed in the summer.

This has been a long and trying season for Oilers management, some overmatched young players and certainly for Edmonton’s rabid fans. It’s been a year in which a player like Erik Cole started his time here with such promise but will end (as so many others have) with the player headed elsewhere via free agency.

It’s also a year in which the kids ran in place (or worse) and some of these fellows may have to spend time in the minors in order to regain their NHL careers. Still others will play in other NHL towns.

Here are 10 questions and my answers. Chime in.

  1. How many holes does Edmonton have? 4. A scoring LW, a right handed veteran centerman who is good in the FO circle and can PK, a veteran defender who can play on the 2nd and 3rd pairings as required, and a backup goalie.
  2. How many holes will be addressed? 1. Edmonton will add a veteran center to help carry the faceoff load with Horcoff and Brodziak. This player will also slide into Moreau’s PK minutes until the captain returns.
  3. Will they deal Erik Cole? No. The Oilers won’t deal him for picks and prospects, and dealing him for a scoring LW only works if there’s a team out there with a mirror imbalance. I can’t find one, can you?
  4. How will they address LW? The Oilers will run with Penner on the 1line, Cogliano on the 2, and then a combination of Nilsson, Moreau, Reddox, Jacques etc. The addition of the veteran C will allow Cogliano to move over to wing.
  5. What about that veteran defender? I think Grebeshkov’s return (and effectiveness) probably means they go with the current group. Peckham is very young and an unsure 7D but this is the team that ran Matt Greene out there to learn NHL hockey during the Stanley run.
  6. What about the backup goalie? I assume it’s Sabourin. He’ll be called up at some point and play a game or two with the Oilers. Deslauriers is garnish.
  7. Could the Oilers deal a roster player? Maybe. When the veteran RH center arrives the depth chart will probably be Horcoff-Gagner-veteran C-Brodziak which means Pouliot could be dealt to a team looking for depth. Robert Nilsson is certainly available to any team that would like to give him a third chance to deliver.
  8. Is it possible that they acquire a “Frolov” or a “Spezza?” Anything is possible but these trades can also be made at the draft and dealing for a Frolov now and subtracting from the current roster doesn’t address the dire lack of depth on this team. The Oilers have 5 forwards with 14 or more goals, and if they can add another without dealing one of that group (Hemsky, Horcoff, Penner, Cogliano, Cole) and not deal Gagner then maybe it’ll happen. That’s a big maybe, though.
  9. Is this enough to save MacT’s job? No. This team needs more help than adding Jim Dowd, but the Oilers management group doesn’t look like they’re going to try another deadline 2006 (the day Lowe “settled all family business” with shrewd additions like Roloson, Spacek, Samsanov and Tarnstrom). It won’t be the “dreadline” that was the Ryan Smyth trade, but this management group doesn’t appear creative enough to make things happen.
  10. What would your dream deadline look like? I don’t think it’s vital to add a 1line LW but they badly need a veteran RH C, a quality veteran D who can fill in when injury/overwork begin to impact the game. And they need to add a veteran goalie. They aren’t terribly expensive and it’s excellent injury insurance.

It won’t be the “dreadline” that was the Ryan Smyth trade, but this management group doesn’t appear creative enough to make things happen.

LT, you seem to be getting a little sour on this group…

  2. Mark-Ryan says:

I guess I’m the only one sensing that the organization feels a scoring line winger is more important then a checking line centre.

  3. Fake Craig McTavish says:

And exactly which Jim Dowd do you think will be available in the next 4 hours LT?

  4. Jon says:

    Hey LT…love the blog.

I have mentioned this in previous comment sections, but I think that a package could be put together to get higgins out of MTL.

With Tanguay coming back, they are solid at LW and Center, this would push Higgins onto the third line. However, they are weak at RW.

I think a package of Cole and Nillson OR pouliot OR picks could be done.

We lose grit this year but he is a scorer and a two way forward (MacT player) who can play with Hemsky.

    Higgins Horc Hemsky
    Penner Cogs Gagner
    Moreau(Reasoner equivilant)Pisani

I like this top nine alot better than the one we are icing now.

    Thoughts???

  5. Coach pb9617 says:

LT, Jim Dowd has retired. He won’t be coming in any deal.

  6. pboy says:

He meant a “Jim Dowd” type player, not literally Jim Dowd.

What do you guys think the chances of getting Kevin Weekes are? He would fill in nicely as our back-up.

  7. Bohologo says:

Lowe’s tenure as GM-for good and ill-was marked by boldness. The Pronger deal (the good one) and the Smyth deal demonstrated Lowe was not afraid to make profound changes.

If this deadline is indeed under Tambellini’s purview, I wonder if we won’t see moves of a different nature-change can also be incremental to be effective.

There isn’t much dispute about this team’s deficiencies, but as LT says, absent another team with congruent holes, we’re all dancing with the girl what brung us.

  8. knighttown says:

He meant a “Jim Dowd” type player, not literally Jim Dowd.

    You’ve been Coach’d!

  9. Jonathan Willis says:

Dream trade deadline? Something like this:

Bryan Lerg to ATL for Marty Reasoner

Erik Cole, Steve Staios and Rob Schremp to Carolina for Tuomo Ruutu and Frantisek Kaberle

    Basically. It won’t happen, though.

  10. Lowetide says:

bookie: Since Tambellini arrived they haven’t shown much. Lubo and Cole were the big moves last summer and since Tambellini arrived it’s been sending Garon out of town and booking passage to and from Springfield.

All of this while Horcoff has been taking so many faceoffs it’s likely having an impact on other things in his game.

Is that error (no rh C) worth 2 points in a season? 4?

Based on the closeness of the race every damn season, I think its’ proper to be a little pissy.

FCM: Halpern? Reasoner? Would Reinprecht work? Not all rh’ers but at this point they need all hands on deck at that position.

Jon: Interesting. That’s an idea worth thinking about.

    -
Jonathan: Lerg? Man I don’t think he has any value at all right now. And I liked the signing.

  11. relic says:

    cogliano to the wing eh?

after almost two years what makes you think this will finally happen?

my ideal deadline day has MacT lining pou up at 3c or even 4c but that’s about as likely frolov.

  12. mjsh says:

My dream deal is still Kovolchuck and Reasoner out of Altanta for Visnosky, and a couple of Nillson, Pouliot, Shremp, even a pick. I am guessing that Atlanta is drawing flies and could use a little less salary. My one concern is that Kovolchuk might be too flakey for our liking.

I would not be supprised to see something big out of Lowe, as someone else said he is not afraid to change the team and this team needs changes.

  13. Jonathan Willis says:

LT: Lerg/Wild/Bisaillon/O’Marra; anything off the B-list.

  14. Lowetide says:

jonathan: Gotcha. Any of Wild, JDD, Trukhno, Lerg, Dubnyk? That’s about right, and if they asked for Schremp it’s probably time anyway.

  15. Jenga says:

JW. O’Marra? Didn’t he used to play in the NHL?

  16. Black Dog says:

jenga – I think you’re thinking about Mark O’Meara, the golfer

rumour de jour – Smytty to the Canucks

  17. Mr DeBakey says:

“Trent Hunter has been pulled from today’s game between the New York Islanders and Colorado Avalanche. He was at the pre-game skate but now his whereabouts are unknown.”

    http://brochuishockey.blogspot.com/

Now there’s a pick up I could get behind!

  18. Mr DeBakey says:

Further investigation leads our crack research team to believe that rather than play tonight,
Hunter decided to spend the evening talking to Ralph on the big white phone.

  19. Asiaoil says:

Except for the LW – all of these holes could have and should have been filled in the summer….easily. Just plain bad management that it’s March and we are still talking about this – but that’s no surprise. I’m totally off on this mgmt group and would flush the toilet on Lowe, MacT, and all the assistants except Huddy.

A management flush and ditching the rotten core (Moreau, Staios, Roloson) would do wonders for this team – but it’s probably not happening. Sorry to see Moreau get hurt – but figures the sap would get dinged right before the deadline so we can’t trade his ass out of town while he has some value. Frankly I would not be surprised to wake up to a Cole for Kovalev trade on Wednesday.

  20. Coach pb9617 says:

    Needs: 4th dman, PK experience.

Ideal deadline move: Tim Sestito for Josef Melichar

Needs: 3rd Line center to move Cogliano far far away from the dot. He doesn’t have to be right-handed, because in Project Oiler, everyone has a name, his name is Kyle Brodziak. His name is Kyle Brodziak. His name is Kyle Brodziak.

Steven Reinprecht, Marty Reasoner, Jeff Halpern, Doug Weight, and Dominic Moore, Vern Fiddler all fit the bill.

Ideal deadline move: Schremp plus a 2nd for anyone on the list.

    Needs: Backup goalie, veteran.

    Weekes fits.

  21. shepso says:

@Asiaoil? Roli part of the rotten core? I still don’t get that sentiment. He’s sorta the only reason this team is alive and in the hunt right now. I’ve chatted with him a few times in the last 3 years and find him to be a really good guy, and he’s really playing like he’s 39 going on 29 (sorry to paraphrase Staples, but it’s true). He’s the one guy of the older core I don’t consider trading, unless it’s for Harding or Backstrom and a guaranteed 4 year deal for either of them

  22. DBO says:

If the Oil actually wanted to make a run this year, one team has all of our needs and may look to deal them. i mentioned this before, but go to nashville. They are moving UFA’s for picks and prospects. Go get:

    Sullivan (1st line LW)
    Bonk (3rd line center)
Devries (5-6 vet dman with some offense)
Dan Ellis (back up goalie who could play as a starter and has a reasonable contract next year, with a $1.75 cap hit).

That is every need we have. You can deal cole if you choose, or run with those players. You give up JDD, one of Pouliot/Schremp, d prospect and a 1st round pick and throw in Nilsson if needed. If they want Penner, all the better.
The Preds want to run with Rinne (who has taken the starters job away from Ellis), so could move Ellis.

And you could still trade Cole and get solid prospects or even go for the Ruutu for Cole and nilsson/prospect option.

    you then dress

    Sullivan – Horc – Hemsky
    Penner – Gagner – Ruutu
    Moreau – Bonk – Pisani
    Cogliano – Brodziak – Reddox

    Souray – Gilbert
    Devries – Greb
    Staios – Smid

    Rollie – Ellis

It doesn’t hurt us long term, and we get a shot at keeping a player like Sullivan for around $3 million (if not less) who can score and plays a solid two way game (although he has been injury prone, we can get him for 1-2 years at a reasonable price and let him go when we have to pay the kids)

  23. quain says:

A management flush and ditching the rotten core (Moreau, Staios, Roloson) would do wonders for this team

Roloson gets included in this? What did he do, besides be insane like Dwayne Roloson always is? Oh, and give us above average goaltending?

  24. Eskimo44 says:

Ive got tons of ideas for trades my ideal ones are:

    Penner Cole for Horton
I think this works because florida wants to make the playoffs amd could use scoring depth. Horton is the best player but ive heard he dosent like martin and he has been a dissapointment so far

Roloson for Biron Upshall or Van Riemsdyk/Giroux
If your getting Van Riemsdyk or Giroux out of philly, which definatly has the depth in young forwards to deal one of those two, edmonton probably has to throw in a pick or prospect like schremp/dubnyk or even chorney. Philadelphia has a legitimate chance at a cup and a proven playoff goalie who is having a fantastic season makes sense especially sense they have a good backup. if they trade biron they have the cap room, philly could probably still use a puck moving d man but if they dont get one theyll be fine.

    5th rounder for a 4th or 5th rounder
he’s still marty reasoner so this isnt a stretch. They shouldnt have let him go in the first place if they were gonna trade stoll.

    Cole Pouliot for Stall(Pittsburg)
If they cant get Hortonthis is aa trade that makes sense to me poo and crosby were linemates in junior and cole is a scoring winger. Stall is redundant after crosby and malkin if the oil have to throw in a mediocre prospect or 3rd rnder its not a bad deal.

Essentialy i think these trades will still keep them in the hunt but give them assets to build around with a young team while retaining the vetran core management likes…. comments?

  25. Fake Craig McTavish says:

    @ LT

FCM: Halpern? Reasoner? Would Reinprecht work? Not all rh’ers but at this point they need all hands on deck at that position.

Reinprecht might be your guy. He’s actually had a pretty nice season 10G 21A 31P +4 playing behind Jokinen and others.

Phoenix is recalling players from San Antonio including Turris so it would see they’re ready to move some roster players.

He’s shoots left but what the hell.

$2M a season, UFA at the end.

  26. Lord Bob says:

LT, Jim Dowd has retired. He won’t be coming in any deal.

Jim Dowd is not walking through that door! Mark Lamb is not walking through that door, and Ken Linseman is not walking through that door! And if you expect them to walk through that door, they’re going to be grey and old!

Is that what you were driving at, Coach?

  27. hunter1909 says:

Oilers management since Katz took over are like Red China. Lowe was wobbly, but quite a lot of fun at the same time.

Keeping Cole will be Oiler’s equivalent of chasing your first crush, while she’s in the process of treating you like dirt. I doubt if his wife ever unpacked half of her junk to start with.

2008-09 has become a river of no return for MacTavish. Short of winning the cup(haha) he’s gone, but everyone knows he’s going to be here until the bitter end. I know I won’t watch hockey next season if he stays. Too many other things in life more worth doing – like sweeping the floor for example.

With Visnovsky, I held out a faint glimmer of hope that the Oilers could make noise in the playoffs. Without him, it simply isn’t going to happen, other than that bad old Stars style kickout that I never could really get much into.

  28. Eskimo44 says:

The problems i have with your suggestion DBO is cap space and its a deep draft giving up picks this year is not very wise the last time it was a deep draft guys like getzlaf were going in the mid to late 1st round and guys like bergeron(bos)in the second and what prospects do you give up without hurting the future? and i dont think nashville is even out of it yet. the only way you send picks is for a young player with a good contract and i think unless its a homerun the 1st rounder and maybe even second should be out of question.

  29. Eskimo44 says:

Btw to edit a previous post i wrote `5th rounder for a 4th or 5th rounder` i meant to write Reasoner for a 4th or 5th.lol. sorry i was in a rush for a minute there.

  30. YKOil says:

    I honestly think that:

    Penner, Pouliot & a 5th
    FOR
    Malone, Kolzig and Malik

Is a trade that could happen. Tampa drops a few years worth of committments and extra salary in the two throw-ins.

MacT gets a guy who he would probably like and doesn't have to worry about finding a spot for Pouliot anymore.

I would make that trade. Even if I didn't figure on using Kolzig and Malik.

  31. Coach pb9617 says:

Kolzig is gone for the year with a torn whozeewhatzit in his shoulder.

  32. Lord Bob says:

So I spent all that time looking up a Rick Pitino quote for nothing?

  33. PDO says:

Sportsnet has Smyth coming back as a possibility.

    Cough.

  34. Lord Bob says:

Sportsnet has Smyth coming back as a possibility.

Because they want gullible Oilers fans to watch and click, not because there’s actually any chance of it happening.

In a similar vein, best of luck to the Calgary Flames this playoff season.

  35. St George says:

Sportsnet has Smyth coming back as a possibility.

You can see why Smyth might be interested in that … Colorado is pretty much a complete mess heading into full rebuild mode. Is that how and where he wants to finish out the most productive part of his career?

  36. Mr DeBakey says:

A simple trade that might work long-term is Pouliot to Chicago for Skille.

Both guys seem to have stalled.

    It would give the Oil a big RW with some speed & skill;
    A bookend for JFJ

  37. HBomb says:

    Sportsnet is associated with Eklund.

    They cannot be trusted.

  38. bookie says:

I would trade Schemp for Ovechkin. I know that will upset a lot of you because we don’t know how big of a future Shremp has and it could be the worst deal ever once Schemp gets his chance to shine, but I say its worth it because Ovechkin would bring in some scoring right now when we need it most.

  39. bookie says:

btw, anyone think that a one week injury might have saved Moreau from taking a trade trip somewhere?

  40. hunter1909 says:

Reluctantly, I have to agree with bookie on that Schremp trade.

Moreau however, is one of MacT’s fave hos, so he’s not going anywhere.

  41. Icecastles says:

Bookie: I assume you mean Schremp. Agreed, Ovetchkin coud be a decent addition, though he doesn’t really have as much experience as a guy like Gary Roberts, who I see as kind of an Ovie+ experience and grit.

You might have to throw in a 2nd or 3rd round pick to get Ovie though. :D

After that, they should try to do a straight across trade with Detroit: Roloson for Conklin.

  42. Icecastles says:

Or Pouliot and Smid for Zetterberg and Datsuk.

  43. Jonathan Willis says:

Tom Preissing on waivers. His contract is the mirror image of Steve Staios’, both in term and length. He’s suffering through a bad season this year.

Whether or not he’s claimed should give us some idea of whether there would be any market for Staios.

  44. Fake Craig McTavish says:

    Mr DeBakey said…

What on earth do you think Chicago would do with Pouliot?

  45. Asiaoil says:

Shepso & quain – didn't say Roloson wasn't playing well – just that he's a jerk and clearly does not play well with other goalies. No reason for any goalie drama this year but we've had plenty and Dwayne's been in the mix. He's old, playing well and has some value – dump his grumpy ass on someone like MTL or DET and move on.

  46. Coach pb9617 says:

JW – is Preissing on re-entry?

  47. Coach pb9617 says:

    Hm, what about Marek Svatos?

  48. Mr DeBakey says:

What on earth do you think Chicago would do with Pouliot?

    BBQ him?

The same thing the Oilers would do with Skille?

The Blackhawks a little light at center
Unlike RW, where Skille sits about 6th on the depth chart.

  49. Jonathan Willis says:

    Coach: No.

  50. Fake Craig McTavish says:

    Mr DeBakey said…

The Blackhawks are looking for a 2nd line centre but ahead of Pouliot would be Toews, Versteeg, Bolland and Fraser.

    Pouliot doesn’t crack that lineup.

    BBQ’d is right.

  51. Coach pb9617 says:

Even for “poor man” comps, Worst. Comps. Ever.

  52. Icecastles says:

    Asiaoil said…
Shepso & quain – didn't say Roloson wasn't playing well – just that he's a jerk and clearly does not play well with other goalies.

I’m assuming you have a source other than what the rest of us are privy to? because frankly that seems pretty far out of left field from anything I have heard. I’m not aware of any “goalie dramas” beyond the difficulty of running a 3-goalie system and rumored tensions between Garon and the coaching staff.

And even if there were validity to what you say, I would have to respond, “so what?” He’s the best goalie we have, is by most accounts a respected leader and voice on the team. I could care less if he doesn’t get along with other goalies since there is only one other goalie on the team, and he’s not on the ice at the same time he is (or any other time, for that matter!)

  53. Dennis says:

Where’s the Smyth to edm rumor? is it on their website?

    I don’t see it happening unless it’s 27 for 94.

They both have three years left and the cap hit’s two mill more for 94 than for 27, right? Though, 94 gets paid less and less as the contract goes, right?

  54. Lord Bob says:

So, how many better seasons does Bouwmeester have to log than Rob Blake before he rises above “a poor man’s Rob Blake”?

I’m now calling Dustin Penner “a poor man’s Jean-Francois Jacques” and none of you can stop me.

  55. Fake Craig McTavish says:

I’m now calling Dustin Penner “a poor man’s Jean-Francois Jacques” and none of you can stop me.

there you go…damning with faint Parise again.

  56. Dennis says:

    Just throwing it out there.

    27 for 94

12 for a Havelid type that will push 24 back into the third pairing.

    85/78-10-83
    94-89-26
    18-13-34
    78/85-51-46

    37/77
    new guy/44
    5/24

Understanding that 26′s gone after this season, how would the payroll look for 2010? Throw in 37 signed for say 4/14.

How affordable would that be? Understand we could easily move both 18 and 24 to lighten the books.

  57. hunter1909 says:

Smyth and his bloated contract would be perfect for the Oilers. Add the 2+ million overpayment cap wise to Horcoff, Staios, Moreau, Penner, Roloson, Pisani etc.

And a wonderful “feel good” placebo, to satiate those nearly 20 seasons of ultimate total futility.

Of course it does absolutely nothing to actually move the team anywhere remotely close to winning the cup, but assuming Katz likes the idea(ala Laraque), it’s a goer!

  58. knighttown says:

So…Ryan Smyth AND Milan Hejduk are both poor man’s Jarome Iginlas?

  59. Coach pb9617 says:

    27 for 94

Makes sense – the only way to get players in Edmonton is to overpay them by 33%.

Screw 94 and his ridiculous contract – that would truly put the Oilers in cap hell.

  60. Jonathan Willis says:

Smyth isn’t coming back. But, just to indulge whimsy for a moment, it would probably need to be a deal something like this:

Penner, Staios and a 1st round pick to COL for Smyth and Leopold

If the Oilers take on Smyth they need to clear salary. For Colorado to accept the salary dump (Staios) the Oilers would need to sweeten the pot. With the Av’s goaltending situation, though, you might get lucky and manage:

Penner, Staios, Deslauriers, 2nd round pick for Smyth, Leopold and a 7th round pick or somesuch. I don’t think much of JDD’s trade value, but Colorado’s GM clearly has no clue on goalies either.

  61. godot10 says:

//Tom Preissing on waivers. His contract is the mirror image of Steve Staios’, both in term and length. He’s suffering through a bad season this year.//

Tom Preissing is extremely soft. We are in a division with Calgary, Vancouver, Minnisota, and Colorado, all of which have forwards who hit, so Preissing would be useless and a complete waste of money from the Oilers perspective. The Oilers have 4 better puck moving defensemen, so Preissing would also be worse than redundant.

  62. NBOilerFan says:

They diffently have the 4 holes pointed out though I suspect they end up addressing the 3rd line and instead of addressing the #1 LW spot, they deal Cole for a younger replacement type (unless they claimed Avery ;-)

I also agree that they run with the defenders they have, and if Roloson goes down that Sabourin is pulled up with JDD given a shot to run with it, but at the first sign of not being able to handle it (which will be quick), Sabourin is our #1.

I don't see a Frolov or Spezza type deal, but I do like the rumour of Cole+ for T. Ruutu or Jon's suggestion of Cole+ for Higgins. Might even end up being a Cole+ for Colby Armstrong.

My dream deadline deal is the same as mjsh's: Kovolchuck & Reasoner.

Kovy is my dream acquisition even in the off-season (which is more likely… if likely at all).

As much as I love Smyth, I say no to him… Penner and his contact are still way better they Smyth and his contract, IMO.

  63. NBOilerFan says:

Also… I think as long as this team makes the playoffs, MacT is safe. If they don’t, then he still has a 50/50 chance.

My biggest fear if MacT is canned… is that Bucky becomes the replacement…. which is not the way to go.

It’s either MacT… or someone outside the “old boys club” for me.

  64. Jonathan Willis says:

Godot 10: Believe me, I wasn’t advocating picking him up.

I just thought it was interesting.

  65. Smytty777 says:

If a 3rd line center that can win draws and kill penalties is all we can realistically pick up, why wasn’t Gratton claimed months ago? He’s running at 60% on draws, is a big body that throws his weight around and seemed to play a very effective game against us for CBJ.

If the Oilers recognized this as an issue couldn’t it have been addressed a long time ago?

  66. NBOilerFan says:

    @ Smytty777 said…
If the Oilers recognized this as an issue couldn’t it have been addressed a long time ago?

I think they were still stubbornly sticking to the Cogs/Gagner experiment. But one hopes they finally have realized that we need another veteren presence at center to help Horcoff/Brods up the middle on draws. Plus the cap hit is less at this point.

  67. godot10 says:

//If a 3rd line center that can win draws and kill penalties is all we can realistically pick up, why wasn’t Gratton claimed months ago? //

It is really short term thinking to play Gratton over Cogliano.

Gagner and Cogliano are both being developed as centres. Brodziak has the Reasoner/Dowd job.

To develop young players, one has to play them. Teams with a plethora of young centres tend to get killed in the faceoff circle. That is one of the costs of developing young centres.

The Leafs and Dominic Moore are apparently pretty far apart in contract talks, and Burke is likely shopping him. I’d take that guy in a heartbeat. If we can sign him for $10M/4yrs its a bonus. Give ‘em Schremp and a 2nd-3rd rnd pick.

Why point is that if the Oilers intended to address faceoffs/pk they could have done it earlier.

Which makes me question whether they intend to address the issue at all?

  70. Jonathan Willis says:

Smytty: Supposedly there are some off-ice issues with Chris Gratton; Robin Brownlee was nice enough to tell me that when I suggested Gratton back when he first went on waivers.

Why would you possibly want to dump the teams (arguable) MVP at this point?! Who would you suggest getting to play nets? Are you going to get back on the injury prone Lehtonen bus?

Seriously, I don’t recall ever reading anything or getting the vibe that Roli doesn’t get along w/ his teammates.

    AsiaOil,
    a) you’ve on drugs.

So… you don’t like Old Man Roloson. You have any links to this so called “goalie drama” pulled by Roli?

Beside that, if Roloson was gone, we would have been left with Garon – JDD this year and the team would have sunk with those guys in net.

Roloson has provided NHL calibre starter goaltending this year.

    b) you’re still on drugs.

  73. Ducey says:

    Asiaoil,

Once again your negativity is off base. Roli doesn’t really like the media game and comes across as grumpy. If you actually knew the guy, as I do, you would know he is laid back, has a great sense of humour, cares about his job, does quiet things for the community and is a good person.

You may want to look in the mirror before calling anyone grumpy.

  74. brentano says:

How did JDD go from Goalie of the Future, who the Oilers couldn’t risk putting through waivers so gave him a one-way contract,to “garnish” in the, what, 4 or 5 games he’s actually played in recent memory?
