Stone Soul Picnic
The Edmonton Oilers have signed winger Ryan Stone to a 1-year, two-way contract for 2009-10. Capgeek reports the number for NHL time at $600,000.
Stone is in a good position to see some NHL action this season. Above him on the depth chart (LW) are Dustin Penner, Andrew Cogliano (apparently), Ethan Moreau and JF Jacques. Steve MacIntyre is the designated knuckle-dragger for the portside.
Stone’s grit and ability (he’s a solid AHL player) make him a nice callup option for injury. The Oilers forward group appears to be in flux as the team heads to training camp and it is possible he wins a job over some of the men above him on the depth chart.
