In last night’s loss, Colin McDonald became the 7th man to play in an NHL game from the Oilers 2003 Entry Draft. This ties the Oiler record for a single season (1993 also had 7 players, as did 1981) but there is no Edmonton impact player from that draft season. 1993 featured both Jason Arnott and Miroslav Satan and 1981 boasted Grant Fuhr and Steve Smith.
McDonald played 4:54 (all at even-strength) last night with zero’s across the board. He didn’t stand out in a bad way (there were a couple of weak clearing attempts) and did handle the puck well down low in the offensive zone in his one chance to make a play.
LMHF often puts up game reports for home games over at HF and has some great insights into each game. About last night: I get the impression that McDonald isn’t a good enough skater to be in this league for any length of time, but will certainly reserve judgement for the time being.
Which seems reasonable.
