This is Kelly Greenbank. He was chosen 20th overall in 1975 by the Edmonton (WHA) Oilers. He is pictured here in the uniform of the Oklahoma City Stars. He had a long and solid career playing in Austria.
The Oilers AHL players have been nomads since the turn of the century. Hamilton, Edmonton, Toronto, Scranton-Wilkes Barre and Springfield, with some in Iowa and a few other spots too. Guy Flaming (among others) have suggested that the constant movement had a negative impact on prospects like Jeff Deslauriers and others.
I have no idea about the impact this sort of thing might have, but will say that the Oilers haven’t gotten a lot out of their AHL team since they hit the outskirts of Springfield.
With any luck the Oklahoma City Oilers (or whatever they’ll be called, my preference would be Blazers in honor of the 60′s team) will be the place where names like Alex Plante, Jeff Petry, Riley Nash and Johan Motin develop their skills to the point they make the show.
