That’s Jan Hejda playing the blue for Edmonton. If there’s one thing (aside from a magical trade deadline, 2006) the Kevin Lowe regime can do well it is most certainly identifying value defensemen. Since walking through the doors as General Manager in summer 2000, Lowe and the pro scouts have acquired Steve Staios, Marc-Andre Bergeron, Jan Hejda, Denis Grebeshkov, Ladislav Smid and others.
Actually, they’ve done a better job acquiring mature talent than developing draft picks (Semenov, Greene) over the decade Lowe has been in charge.
I think that is what Oilers fans have to hope for in regard to the cap slash that was the Grebeshkov trade. The club will audition Chorney and Peckham but will also (hopefully) shop the world for the next Hejda, the new Bergeron.
Go with your strengths.
