They might come in droves now. Kids and minor league veterans and graduating junior stars. We’ll know most of the names but there might be a few who send us to our search engines looking for information.
In the last game, Edmonton employed all of Taylor Chorney, Theo Peckham, Dean Arsene and Johan Motin along the blue. It reminds us of the lowest ebb in this organization’s history when names like Marc Laforge, Alex Kerch, Brad Zavisha, Darcy Martini and Gord Mark wore the copper and blue.
The cupboard is pretty much bare in the AHL, the college kids won’t audition until fall (and many of them may choose to spend another year in the NCAA) and the Oilers have never been overly aggressive in signing the top end undrafted college kids.
So, we can discuss Jordan Eberle as a possible addition and then it is a matter of which Falcon fits the bill. So far this season, Springfield’s man games have included:
- Ryan Potulny 46gp, 14-8-22
- Taylor Chorney 23gp, 0-1-1
- Devan Dubnyk 10gp, 4.26 .870
- Liam Reddox 9gp, 0-2-2
- Theo Peckham 6gp, 0-1-1
- Alex Plante 4gp, 0-1-1
- Ryan O’Marra 3gp, 0-1-1
- Dean Arsene 3gp, 0-0-0
- Colin McDonald 2gp, 1-0-1
- Johan Motin 1gp, 0-0-0
I think that’s everyone. Anyway, we’ll be seeing more games from a few of these fellows, and I suspect Eberle will be an Oiler by mid-month. The AHL Oilers who haven’t played yet (Trukhno, Paukovich, Lerg, Pitton) might get a call just so they can see what they look like under the bright lights.
Plus there’s college free agents and the waiver wire and lord knows what-all-else. It isn’t pretty, but it is interesting historically. Kind of like watching Jose Canseco pitch.
