Petry Back to OKC, Chorney back to the Show

The Edmonton Oilers sent Jeff Petry to the farm today. It’s the right thing to do. In his last 13 games, Petry was 1-1-2 -7. Previous to that, the young man posted 9gp, 0-1-1 +3.

Petry’s a talented young defenseman but he’s lost his confidence. Playing defense with the Edmonton Oilers will do that for you.

I don’t think the club should have called him up this season; then again, he was playing extremely well and Petry is 23 years old. I suspect he’ll be better upon recall and would bet it comes at the deadline.

Someone from the Oiler blue is heading out of town; my guess is one or more of Jim Vandermeer, Ladislav Smid or Kurtis Foster.

Taylor Chorney is back in the show. I’m not sure if this is a good idea, as the young defenseman (Chorney is about 7 months older than Petry) is struggling in the AHL. Here are the Barons defensemen since January 1st:

  • Bryan Helmer 17gp, 4-9-13 +6
  • Richard Petiot 19gp, 0-5-5 +2
  • Alex Plante 18gp, 0-4-4 +2
  • Anthony Aeillo 10gp, 0-5-5 +1
  • Shawn Belle 8gp, 0-1-1 +1
  • Johan Motin 5gp, 0-0-0 +1
  • Jordan Bendfeld 7gp, 0-0-0 -3
  • Taylor Chorney 11gp 1-3-4 -5

That’s a really interesting decision.
