This is Methuselah. I knew he’d look old, but stupidly thought he’d have more hair. I wonder how many pennant races he got to enjoy, how many 20+ year droughts he had to endure before his team raised the…the…the…Saul? the Sheba? the Shulamite?
I guess we’ll never know.
If you’ve hung in this far you are a true copper and blue fan of the Edmonton Oilers. This season was like spending an afternoon in Grade 10 watching “Signal 30″ after having watched it in the morning (which would be last season) too.
I don’t know if we’re any smarter, but I can say that the sunshine feels good and I’m enjoying the early days of the baseball season.
Starting this week, I’ll be doing the reasonable expecation series. I’ll also have more information on the draft (the Nation Radio show is a Godsend in that area) and have a few tracers too. I’ll start the RE series tomorrow with Jordan Eberle.
There are some things we can follow over the next few weeks. I think the number one item is the draft lottery this week, but close behind is the Anton Lander signing which we should hear about soon. Based on some of the Swedish newspapers I’m reading online, there’s a chance the Oilers sign him to retain his rights and then Lander plays in the SEL for one more season.
Adam Larsson is in the SEL finals with his Skelleftea club. Farjestad is up 2 games to 1 so far and game 4 goes on Tuesday. Larsson’s time on ice is varied throughout the three games (23:04, 32:00-OT game; 19:01) but he appears to be playing top 4 minutes in the finals.
His boxcars (3gp, 0-1-1 -3) suggest he might be in a bit of trouble with those minutes against Farjestad.
Hopes for watching Ryan Nugent Hopkins at the Memorial Cup have been dealt a blow courtesy the Medicine Hat Tigers. They’re up 2-0 in their second round series and the Tigers have ripped the Rebels in both games, scoring seemingly at will.
I spoke to Bob Ridley (pbp man for the Tigers) yesterday and he said Tyler Pitlick may return for the rest of the playoffs if Medicine Hat can get past Red Deer.
We should be cheering for the Blackhawks today. If they win, the LAK finish 8th in the division and the draft pick return for Dustin Penner will be a shiny diamond. I believe it’ll be the 18th overall selection if Chicago wins today.
