Career Opportunities
This is Riley Nash. There are still a couple of cuts to come, but it looks like he might be a Carolina Hurricane opening night. The Oilers traded him to the pick that turned into Martin Marincin during the 2010 draft, and Nash has taken a beating in various places (mostly on radio) as a potential NP. This could certainly be true, Nash hasn’t played in the NHL yet and he was drafted several years ago. Having said that, he has a nice range of skills and appears to be on the verge of making his first NHL team.
- Waivers: Every year we watch the waiver wire and every year good players pass through waivers. Edmonton could grab Michael Leighton right now, but it won’t happen. Leighton had a ripping .926SP last season in the AHL but Edmonton will set sail with NK and Dubnyk this fall.
- Waivers: Minnesota plucked former St. Albert Saint Nick Johnson off waivers from the Pens. It’s a nice transaction, not much cost and he could turn into a useful player. I wonder why the NHL have nots don’t do this more often. Back in the day, teams like the Washington Capitals improved every year by grabbing a loose Hab (famously Pierre Bouchard but there were others).
- Waivers: I wonder why Chris Bourque doesn’t get a look via waivers. Buddy doesn’t have size but certainly has skill.
- Tambellini: I heard him on the radio today saying they’ll start the season with the current blue and then address when needed. Okay, then.
