The Edmonton Oilers play two games tonight, one in Edmonton and another in Saskatoon. They haven’t posted the lines yet, but we do know that Jordan Eberle, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Ryan Smyth will play in Saskatoon and Taylor Hall will be in Edmonton.
The opposition: Chicago (in Saskatoon) and Minnesota (at Rexall). Both games are online at the Oilers website and both start at 7 (I’m not sure but would hope the game you don’t watch would be archived for your viewing pleasure. Should be time to do all that and catch Jon Stewart/Colbert too).
Cult of Hockey is running a very interesting series on Barrie Stafford and his years with the Oilers. The latest installment is here and boasts some interesting items on the team over the years. The font is poor but the article and series are excellent.
I’ll post the lines and pairings later, but it will be interesting to see how closely they match up to the day one lines and pairings:
- Gagner-Hall-Hemsky (who is injured)
Lots of these guys have been sent out (asterisk) so all of lines 12 is gone plus two other RW’s. However, those top 4 lines are interesting to follow, we could be seeing something similar opening night.
- Sutton (baby)-Potter
Whitney won’t play soon and Sutton isn’t ready to play but those might be the pairing we’re fretting over opening night. I do like Petry over other options with Whitney–we’ve talked about that at length and it seems impossible that the Oilers would send him back. Barker-Gilbert is a likely tandem and Smid-Peckham with Sutton in the mix too also seems possible.
We’ll get tonight’s lines later, but that’s an interesting group.
