Kirill Tulupov is fun and scary at the same time. It’s like he’s a cross between Darius Kasparitus and King Kong. Big, strong, possibly one brick short of a full load. Wow.
The Oilers have plenty of time to look at all of these kids, but the fact that Tulupov is getting a start this late in TC suggests that a contract is being considered by the organization. It’s hard to know where he is on the current depth chart but the Oilers will play 12 defensemen this weekend and they have (by my count) 14 or 15 blue still in camp.
Here are the lines and pairings:
We shouldn’t read too much into this, but Hartikainen and Tulupov seem to be getting a nice chance here and Gagner is perhaps being tested to see if he can create with lesser mates. It’s all good and a chance to test the collective mettle of the group, doubly welcome after the yawner that took place the other night against Vancouver.
I’ll check nhl.com after the game and post the TOI for D in the comments section.
