PS G7 Oilers at Wild

We won’t get to see behind closed doors until the first OIL CHANGE episode and then only what the Oilers want documented. I think one of the clever Oilogosphere writers should do a script of an outlaw OC complete with what we think is happening. I’d love to hear the real NK conversations and the real Smyth-Fraser story (“didn’t Dr. Nick Riviera have a look at him?”) but will watch the draft closely (those draft nuggets are gold).

The Oilers haven’t posted lines and pairings yet, but I imagine both goalies will get a start this weekend (Wild tonight, Canucks tomorrow). The Oilers have a wonky end of preseason with an entire week between their final pre-season game and their first regular season contest.

The lines at yesterday’s practice looked like this:

  • RNH-Smyth-Eberle
  • Horcoff-Hall-Green
  • Belanger-Paajarvi-Hemsky
  • Lander-Petrell-Omark
  • Brule-Hartikainen-Keller
  • O’Marra-Hordichuk-Jones

Make of it what you will, I’d suggest that Josh Green, Anton Lander, Ryan Keller and Ryan O’Marra get sent away. If they IR Gagner and Eager, the rest of the group stays, making for two Finns and three rookies if you count Petrell.

As for the blue, no pairings available but one would guess that Whitney hits IR and the top 7 will be Tom Gilbert, Ladislav Smid, Cam Barker, Andy Sutton, Theo Peckham, Jeff Petry and Corey Potter. That would mean Chorney on waivers in the next few days and Taylor Fedun falling just short on an impressive TC.

The goaltending is complete, Devan Dubnyk and Nikolai Khabibulin.
