EBERLE GETS THE HOSE
The NHL writers took another opportunity to kick the Oilers in the ass this evening, passing on the chance to honor Jordan Eberle for a career season. Not to worry, Jordan. You’re in great company (hi Fernando).

Too bad for Eberle, but as he said in an interview today, for a defenceman to qualify for the Byng AND play well is a pretty tough task. Campbell had fewers PIMs than Eberle (6 vs 10) and even played 4 more games.
Listening to Dave Campbell and some other dude discuss Yak on Ched and I am reminded of one thing: Is there anything worse than listening to two people over analyze something they don’t know anything about?
Brian Campbell played 2,205 minutes with 6 penalty minutes.
Eberle played 1,372 minutes with 10 penalty minutes.
No brainer.
Agreed.
Is it possible that the Oilers are so famously terrible, that merely by association, the media automatically has a lower oppinion of our best players?
I don’t know how else RNH could have possibly received votes lower than 2nd place for the Calder (I don’t know the voting breakdown of Byng, but at least Campbell seemed like a favourite to win).
A forward has won the Lady Byng every year since 1953. This pims/minutes played formula must be new I guess.

#Oilers in serious talks with #Penguins Stall and 1st not part of talks. MPS main part of talks A P G
Looks like Campbell’s perforce changed the conventional wisdom.
I have to say, perforce of “Steve Smith’s” recent abduction by aliens, that this word doesn’t mean what you think it means.
Perfoce not…I’m in bed with a nasty clown.
Not Steve Smith.

No serious takers on Omark Belanger interest from Calgary

Krueger front runner in head coach
Hope the Krueger rumour is true. Don’t know what Pitt would want if the 1st isn’t on the table… Eberle, I’m thinkin.
Fussy Britches is heating up. Her tweets are in the range of making sense. I think she’s a July 1 miracle.
No real idea either but Pittsburgh seems poised to clear some cap space and reportedly wants to purge two defensemen…including Paul Martin.
spoiler,
It’s NOT for staal. Therefore no first. MPS gets you what from the pens???
Tracy @TreenasOil
#Lightning have also inquired about Smid
Tracy @TreenasOil
Hemsky also garnishing some interest
*Editor’s note. Hemsky looks divine on a bed of escarole.
A defenseman.
The Oilers only have 3 and a half.
DSF,
The pens aren’t exactly loaded on defense. My guess is something like Tangradi and Morrow for MPS and???
Just guessing
Hemsky also garnishing some interest
This is the sort of thing that really makes me wish that I hadn’t been abducted by aliens.
Actually the Pens are loaded on D.
Letang
Martin
Niskanen
Oorpik
Michalek
Engelland
Lovejoy
Despres
Morrow
Valabik
They have to make room for Depres and Morrow, two first round draft picks, to move up.
lol. Oh Fussy Britches. She might be the entire package.
Hemsky trade makes much more sense to me than a Gagner trade. Assuming we draft Yakupov the hole in the lineup is more manageable.
I thought you were in Peru looking for the “Long Lost Clause”
Michalek would be perfect imo. Despite tag and struggles.
What does the math tell us about MichLek?
Even better, what does the math say about Michalek?
Question for LT (or anyone who may know the answer).
The NHL awards are voted by the PHWA, correct?
How many of these writers are covering eastern conference team? (say compared to WC?)
Looking at the awards, I get the impression the eastern players got more push than WC players.
thx
What has fussy britches got right since he predictive successes on July 1?
I don’t remember her having any success since then, but maybe others do.
Love Eberle but Campbell deserved it. Blackhawks were happy to get rid of that contract but they miss him. Very very good player.
As for whatshername she has also tweeted that Sutter and Crawford were favourites/impressed the Oilers. Throw enough against the wall and sooner or later something will stick.
What’s the story on Michalek/Martin? I know Pens fans blamed them and Malkin and Crosby and pretty well everyone for that crash against Philly except for the little buck toothed bastard who was most responsible. Not only Oiler fans and media fall for the big smile it seems. In any case I would think either could be had, the Pens have more kids on the way, as DSF points out, and I doubt it would cost much either, certainly no more than a pick. I’d be looking at Philly too. I would guess they chase Suter and if they do they probably need to move someone too to make room.
The D is a shitshow – Smid, Petry, Schultz and a bunch of bottom pairing guys. Add two vets who can play (for real, none of this Cam Barker project crap) and maybe suddenly we’re talking a bit. Still need help in a lot of spots but if Tambo has any sense he’d be looking in that direction.
I went to bed with a nasty clown once
In my defense
she had a rack that would stop a train.
Can we stop moaning about Eberle and starting arguing about Murray again?

Tom Renney will not be returning as “head” coach of the Edm Oilers but will be offered a position with the Oilers A P G
- She was the only person at the tread deadline saying Gilbert was available –
- Also, she was the first to affirmatively state Hemsky will be resigned.
I have no idea if she’s legit, but her batting average is miles ahead of everyone else (including the MSM guys)
Kris11,
matmik,
She also spoke of EDM resiging Petrell. Didn’t hear that from any other people.
She’s got access to some info for sure, IMO.
Yeah, I think she’s garnishing a lot of good information.
DSF,
Thx.
I’d hope it is fair, but I doubt it.
No serious takers on Omark
Come on Fussy, you expect us to believe this?
Didn’t Bruce do something that showed that she got her rumors from some other online source?
Ethan Moreau has been hired by the Habs as a part time Western Conference pro scout.
Hope he doesn’t steal all his old teammates from us. We couldn’t live without Horcoff.
Whats the over / under on when he becomes an Oiler scout?
Once an Oiler, always an Oiler.
I think it’s great. Get Ethan in there to teach these damn Habs kids that the kind of penalty he took as a player are easy to kill off.
She has been right more often than many others to say the least. As much as I trust other pundits, will take her opinion on who the Oilers draft first with the most weight.
Dustin Nelison’s mock draft.
Murray at #1
http://goo.gl/3Gh72
It will look pretty stupid if the Oil pass on Yak and then CLB gets a decent package for the #2.
RNH had 22 third place votes, 16 fourth, and 2 fifth.
The only way that makes sense, is guys intentionally tanking RNH votes, because they felt Landeskog was their guy, and it was gonna be close. It’s gaming the system, but easier to grasp than someone actually thinking RNH was 5th.
Then again… Who knows.
The wording from that Oilers Now interview with Kevin Lowe seems to stick out like a sore thumb to me, where he says
“At the end of the day from my perspective, and I know I speak for our organization, if he’s not selected one, if we pick one and he’s not the player to go one, it’s not because he’s of Russian heritage.”
To me that sounds like nothing but priming the media for any potential backlash that could come from not selecting Yakupov. Why would you word it that way? “Just because we might do *this* doesn’t mean *that*.” Why not just regurgitate what the rest of Oiler brass has been saying (essentially that nationality has no bearing). I think there’s a huge difference.
You’re not supposed to cry on draft day when your team is picking 1OV.
DSF,
They could still f*ck this up,,,,Why am i not surprised?
Jesse,
He seems quite uncomfortable there, but I think he’s simply trying to address the fact that they *really* could use a star D as 1st OV.
So if they pick Murray, it’ll be for need, not cause he’s Russian.
I think there will be a lot of movement / trades, but I still think they’re drafting Yakupov if they keep 1st.
Great article on the Globe and mail on D vs F:

The Scouting Report on “Fussy Britches”:
Great two way game and looks good in all zones. Can battle along the walls, come off with the puck and drive the goal. Plus plus stickhandler. Cycles well, but can’t overpower big defense. She’s not the fastest in her class, but her skating shows good four way mobility. What she lacks in top speed she makes up for with a good first three steps and a motor that never quits. Prone to the odd penalty. Back end could use a little work–needs to pay more attention to coverage in her own zone. Has pro size but could use a little gym time.
Projection: skilled No. 2 centre
Comps: Samantha Fox to Lynda Carter
Pittsburg D other than Letang aren’t any good, especially Martin.
This is a big few days for the Oilers. Things could go great or they could go terrible. Past experience tells me that Woodguy is right. They’ll do a couple of things right and then counterbalance that with a couple of terrible moves. Onward the revolution.
Because of the nature of Yakupov, I suspect that if Hemsky can bring back a decent NHL defenseman, it will happen.
MPS gets you what from the pens???\
A t-shirt from the Pens store on the concourse.
Did he even score a single point last year?
Oh sorry, his relCorsi vs the toughs 5-on-5 in own zone starts put him among the Top 425 FWs in the NHL. So he’s worth at least a 12th round pick.
I don’t think that’s actually happening in reality.. It’s not about Murray.
Yakupov/Yakupov’s trade value was gifted to the organization. We had to overcome some long-shot odds to even be in this position…
Though it’s true that being Russian shouldn’t factor against him…
I think it only benefits the club if no one else REALLY knows the pick going in.
Are there entry level deals in the KHL? Can’t find/dunno.
Could he book? He could, couldn’t he?
If I was Anne Murray…
That’s one reasn why I’m still tentatively holding true to the belief that they’re picking Yakupov. In the last two years, if they had gone a different way (Seguin in 2010, Landeskog/Larsson in 2011), there were people in the media who would have supported them, or at least attempted to find a good justification. Same with the fanbase. This year, everything is weighted so heavily towards Yakupov, there’d be a huge backlash and a significant amount of negative publicity – enough that it could affect the Oilers in free agency (I’d like to say ticket sales too, but that’s a pipe dream, given the demand). If they take Murray, it’s because they’re so convinced that he’ll be the best player, that they’re willing to take the heat, which is an interesting level of convication.
Theformercaptain can let his wife and kids run free in player only areas and piss everyone off in a different org now.
