FULL DISCLOSURE

From time to time I’m asked about my blog “numbers” or who reads the blog and where. Mr. Google has some tools that you can use and this blog has grown since arriving at wordpress. A year ago the June 1-July 1 numbers were 411,000 pageviews. This year, we’re up.

It looks a little wonky but if you click on it and then click the X on the far right hand side top it’ll show you that in a one month period we’re 37,360 individuals strong and the pageviews are now 560,980.

I don’t know how this compares to the big blogs, but it is pretty cool all the same. Thanks for coming by and sharing, looks like your views are well read. Canada, America, England and Australia are especially popular locales for the blog.

On another item: by special request I will post my “Ryan Murray” and “Griffin Reinhart” #1 overall posts that were written before RD 1 this year. I’ll keep them up for a couple of hours tomorrow morning (say between 8 and 10am) and then pull them down.

Happy Saturday night!

Get on that Taiwanese market LT. Lots of room for expansion!

    Whats a “bounce rate”?

Kind of scary that 37000 people might have read my comments and learned I was an idiot. I thought there were only about 20 of us in here.

  2. Lowetide says:

No idea. I don’t understand much of what is on that page.

  3. Ontarioil says:

Hey LT, one thing I’d love to see is the small image or logo lots of websites have that will appear beside the page title tab or on a favorites tab, like the way Oilersnation has the fist logo show up, my browser organizes favorites that way and your site is the only one without a picture.

Love the blog, and congrats on the ridiculous traffic you get here!

  4. tdslvr says:

    Ducey,

Bounce Rate: Percent of visitors who land on the home page and then leave without visiting another page on the site. So, the lower your bounce rate the better.

  5. Lowetide says:

TD: Thanks. Related: Japan–fuck off! You’re ruining my bounce rate!

  6. Lowetide says:

Look at that Swiss bounce rate! I love you Switzerland!

  7. leadfarmer says:

Sorry LT half of those US views are from me. By the way have you been hanging out with raffi torres, cause, man, you are on a roll. More than one article a day IN THE OFF SEASON. My boss is porbably wondering why my productivity hasnt gone up, now that the hockey season is over. Keep up the strong work.

  8. thurmtim says:

About 18 months ago I viewed your page daily while in Peru. I am trying toindoctrinate my new stepson as an Oiler fan during my visits there. Soon he will be in Canada and he already wants to be a defenceman…

Of course he will be the first Peruvian born NHL’r someday (I hope).

  9. robinrussia says:

    LT,

You are welcome for those Taiwan Numbers…I’ll ensure they are even higher next year.

Your Asia Pac numbers are not bad. Lots of expats reading up on the mighty oil. Surprised Europe is so small.

    leadfarmer:
By the way have you been hanging out with raffi torres,

Funny that, Raffi Torres’s mom is apparently from Peru.

Great job LT, really enjoy the work. If I’m reading that page correctly, ~19,000 returning/regular visitors. Impressive!

  11. Oilanderp says:

What does it all mean? Those pics of buxom beauties are finally working!

  12. DSF says:

    Porn works!

  13. Romulus Apotheosis says:

Count me as one of those who has no standard by which to measure these numbers… but I’m not going to let that get in the way of impressing me immensely.

Great job, LT. It’s a real testament to your quality of work and dedication that this many folks come by for a visit. Thanks for having us!!

ps. where the hell is “(not set)”? did Georg Cantor found a country somewhere? Isn’t that a “surd” or something?

  14. Undisclosed_Personal_Reasons says:

Nice numbers, LT. Arrows are pointed in the right direction. I’d like to see the QoC stats (quality of comments).

  15. FastOil says:

A just reward for hard work done. I find your pieces the most interesting, and the comment section by far the most meaningful (despite my contributions) of what I read about TMFHTITW “The Most Frustrating Hockey Team In The World” . The tone of your blog also is top shelf, without compare.

    Thank You and congratulations!

  16. leadfarmer says:

I believe Not set refers to all DSF related posts.
    Romulus Apotheosis,

  17. remember reijo says:

I wonder how many of those Asian hits are fisherman who were legitimately looking for low/high tide info.

  18. Lowetide says:

    LOL. 80%

    Ducey,

Bounce Rate: Percent of visitors who land on the home page and then leave without visiting another page on the site. So, the lower your bounce rate the better.

So what you’re saying is that almost 38% of people who visit Lowetide are dirty rat finks? Yeah, that sounds about right.

  20. TemujinBC says:

Those are some impressive numbers LT.

    Rock on o/

  21. Clarkenstein says:

What is truly amazing about all these amazing numbers LT is that all this has been accomplished covering the worst team in hockey over the past 5 years. If this team ever gets to serious heights you might do these kind of numbers in a day. By the way, the REAL GM of the Oilers Mr. Daryl Katz texted Shane Doan asking for a meeting. The terse response was “not interested”. If Doan doesn’t sign with PHX he is going to to SJS.

  22. commonfan14 says:

Hard to imagine a topic everyone could beat into the ground more enthusiastically and thoroughly than what to do with the #1 pick, but I’d certainly love to see by how much the comments on playoff game day posts would outnumber the comments on potential #1 pick posts.

  23. TheOtherJohn says:

    LT

Have no idea how you do it.

Posts every a.m., real early, some stuff over at Oilers Nation and then Nation Radio! Saturday noon to 2 my wife can never find me to do any # of plethora of tasks. She asks where i have been and I mumble some excuse. I am unavailable until I hear Nations Overlord, the prolific fake rumourer JW, etc. Truly, what a hobby!! And I mean that as the highest compliment. Could not imagine not reading the blog on a daily basis. In fact when I get to 10 a.m without having read your thought of the day, and everyone ones world view: be patient, hurry up already, Oiler management is doing a great job/Oiler management are idiots, …… I go into withdrawal

It’s just a really fun experience to read and you are to be commended on the quality of your site and page hits whatever the hell those are

I will have to admit – I load the home page a couple of times per day, just to check if a new article has been added. If it’s the same headline at the top, I go elsewhere. My name is jdi, and I’m a bouncer…

I didn’t know either of thoise things, especially Rod Langway! Let’s not throw water on Alejandro’s dreams though, OK?

    Thanks guys.

  27. thurmtim says:

Raffe Torres was born in Toronto, Ontario, to Juan and Anna Torres. His father emigrated from Mexico City with his family in the early 1970s, while his mother is from Lima, Peru, and is of Italian and Greek ancestry. (from Wikipedia)

Rod Langway was born when his father, an American serviceman, was stationed in Taiwan, and he is the only NHL player to have been born in Republic of China, (from Wikipedia)

Alejandro WOIULD be the first Peruvian born NHLer if he is so lucky to make it someday! Yupi!

  28. thurmtim says:

LT, let me add my kudos as well you and BDHS are my primary Oilers blogs and the gold standard for all blogs, all subjects. Exceptional work and a true joy to read. I learn something every dayt from yuor work and the work of your contributors.

I am humbled by your rigor and commitment, sir.

  29. DeadmanWaking says:

The way the draft works, when your team is losing big, the women are young, pouty, and scantily clad. Posters show up from every dark corner of the globe to post paragraphs laced with paranoia and gnawing anger; resident long-beards filch from musty cloak folds tattered –and much brandished–elm fronds detailing escape from Alcatraz in snot and mouse poop.

When your team finally wins, the women are third-act Coco Channel fashionistas pining for Papa Hemingway. Posters show up from every busy crosswalk to post “WOOT! We rock!!!” while overloading the Facebook servers with terabytes of raucous revelry and pandemonium.

In my mind I’ve nicknamed LT “The Great Convener”. It’s that rare skill Abe Lincoln first perfected: the perfect anecdote of aphorism for any tidbit tiding. L never failed to have the good-old-boys smirking like jackals on the drabbest day of the bumpkin almanac, and he wasn’t half bad on a big occasion facing a stove-pipe throng of fickle loyalties, either.

Concerning the site, yes, it would be nice to tart up the tab bar with an Oil Drop favicon in copper and blue. Or maybe someone could dig out an old Lite-Brite from the mustiest box in the darkest corner of granddad’s crawlspace and mock up something more original.

  30. BONVIE says:

The last year or so this has become my favourite site to visit. I have had the Copper and Blue and Oilers Nation sites book marked for a much longer time period. Congratulations for having a great site!!

  31. vishcosity says:

the resident artist, still pissed about Justin Schultz, and apparently dating back to some ordeal involving lowe, burke, and probably penner, doesn’t really want to contribute to an improved logo, apparently. As for the chemist in the room, there are no skills available. Looking at this screen for a week straight may contribute, but really it may have more to do with the first four letters of the blog name. She said if you changed those she would consider. Now we’ve finished our movie, the restauranteur called it dope, and so I’m having another beer. Going on the big screen at comicon, or at least at the film festival component thereof. Can’t even believe it. Good times for the Alberta boys with the interweb and multimedia platforms it seems.

In terms of the site hits, after getting an article published in the AJCN, I was at 400/day. The restaurant chain in Cali gets about 20 000 per month, and that you’re at about 25x that, makes me realize that a significant number of people around the world are now fully aware that I am both a dunce and a jerk. I’m not sure I’m happy about any of this. I’m totally going to start putting more effort into reducing the noise, starting right after this post.

Oh – and about the Phoenix contraction, after the prospect camp there was a goalie camp on the ice next. Thirty or forty kids between 8 and 14 were all wearing pads and ready to go. While they may not be the future of the NHL starting squad, they may well be the future of season ticket holders. I don’t think the NHL is exactly ready to ditch a market with 4+ million people. Not even for 140M. And especially not a team that just made it to the semi final. So while I think it would be great to land OEL, Yandle or Mike Smith, I’m pretty sure they will very much be playing in Glendale next year.

  32. Ozzieoiler says:

I think I contribute about 50% of the Australian traffic.

This site is still the best source of balanced debate on the Oilers that can be found.

    Thanks Lowetide.

  33. BeerLeagueHero says:

The Beer League Hero’s got your back in Taiwan LT!

  34. soup says:

On top of my favorites list. Makes me feel like I’m at home. I’ll keep the traffic from France coming in. Love this place! Thanks LT and regulars.

  35. Doug McLachlan says:

LT, love the site and not surprised that your numbers are through the roof – it is, afterall, a hard-numbers sort of site. That and the eye candy.

Curious what we need to do to pump up the Finnish numbers – no way the land of Kurri and Esa should be outviewed by Tiawan (regardless of the ex-pats).

I suggest a week-long Finn-fest filled with Harti and MPS (yes, I know he’s a Swede but he kept the Finnish name as opposed to the Swedish one and that is huge).

Title it Sisu, Sauna and Slapshots.

  36. Oiler_Kiwi says:

I would also like to pass on my appreciation to Lowetide from sunny Scotland for all the hard work he puts in. It’s the 1st page visited everyday from my laptop, work pc or android phone. Also like to thank the many commentators that add sugar and spice to the articles.

Ii don’t think that ‘bounce rate’ means what you think it means. :)

Actually, it’s the percentage of visitors who land on any page of the site and don’t click on another page before leaving. It osn’t limited to those who land on the home page.

Speaking of which, you could further lower your bounce rate by having Danny at a sidebar widget with your 10 recent posts. I know there have been requests for this.

Are you still using the same GoDaddy hosting package that you bought? If so, I can’t believe you haven’t crashed your server yet.

Also wondering if you get to watch the Oilers from the press box now given your radio show?

  38. spoiler says:

    561k pageviews per month? Wow.

LT, that’s some serious beer money you’re missing out on. You should get a couple of Google ads up.

  39. Matt.N says:

Hey LT. I have asked you before and I will try again. Please put up a PayPal button on your site. For all the years of entertainment this site has brought me I would like to buy you and the missus dinner. I know it’s not your style, but I’m sure others out there would like to buy you a beer, even if they never meet you.

Pretty awesome stuff LT. Well done sir.

Definitely need to spend some time to think about how to monetize it the best.

I don’t think the NHL wants to leave PHX at all.

They may be forced to leave if the citizen actions work and Glendale’s deal in principle w/ Jamison is struck down.

Jamison still doesn’t have enough money to do this, and its getting harder to raise it while citizen action groups try to kill the deal.

The NHL wants to be 32 teams. 2 conferences of 16, 4 divisions of 8.

They’d much rather have more competition when it comes to adding the next two teams rather than using up a potential expansion partner (Que/Seattle) if something needs to be done with the Coyotes.
