NEFTEKHIMIK V SALAVAT YULAEV 5.10.12
Nail Yakupov scored his first two goals in the best league on the planet the other day. He also impacted the shootout. How good is he right now?
We have the entire season to find out but early results are encouraging. The game is on now and you can follow the action (stats wise) here.
Can he score 20? He’s on track to do it and more, but it is early. He’s also on track to shoot about 275 times (if the KHL had an 82 game schedule).
It’s early. This is pretty bloody exciting. We wait.

Not a great first period for Yakupov, who got caught on for a goal against (he went to the shooting lane to block the initial shot, but it got past him and was subsequently hammered in by Igor Mirnov). Still, he’s been noticeable – stripping the puck carrier at center ice twice and carrying the puck in, and even defensively was the first man back and helped break up an opposition rush.
And Yakupov scores again. Unbelievable shot from the high slot – no hesitation, picked the top corner.
He can shoot, he backchecks… I’m liking this fellow more and more every day!

JW, what are you watching? KHL Center Ice?
It seems Yakupov creates a chance every time he’s on the ice. Most times in his teams favour, sometimes not. Made a few nice plays and passes that ended in good scoring chances in the third but also tried to do a little too much in one instance in the corner which ended in a goal for the opposition.
He has no problem dictating the play though, which I believe is a good sign at his age in this league.
Looks like Eberle and the Nuge are healthy scratches for tonights preseason game.
Nuggles and the Eb are locks to make the team so it makes more sense to give the bubble players more ice time.
The Nuge sucks. He can’t even make an AHL preseason squad.
We should’ve drafted Huberdeau.
Also,
“Nayeel yeKOOOpf” could be slightly better than Rowbert Nilsson.
This is great, the lockout really gives him a chance to feel what it is like being a hometown hero with huge success in the KHL. This way, he will always have that knowledge with him whenever somebody in Edmonton boo’s him or when he has a bad week or something. I hope they have rats in their dressing room and terrible food or something.
Its okay, Bookje, they have Russian aviation.
Looks like Sportsnet One will air a few AHL games this year…..
