OKC V SAN ANTONIO 4.11.12
The young guns will be blazing in the shadow of the Alamo today. The Oilers kids go into each battle these days with a better chance to win than they’re used to when wearing Oiler silks. The length of time it’ll take to move that level of competition north is anyone’s guess, although recent comments by Kevin Lowe suggest there may be some renewed urgency in the Papal Palace.

Eric Rodgers is reporting that the big guns may all play on a line today (Nuge between Hall and Eberle) and you can follow him for lineups and updates here. Martin Marincin is also apparently in.There were a couple of even-strength goals scored yesterday, I’ve updated the numbers. Bold means they did something yesterday at even strength:
EVEN STRENGTH TOTALS, OKC 12-13
- Teemu Hartikainen 9, 2-5-7
- Mark Arcobello 8, 2-4-6
- Justin Schultz, 9, 2-4-6
- Jordan Eberle 9, 4-1-5
- Martin Marincin 8, 2-2-4
- RNH 8, 1-2-3
- Ryan Martindale 6, 0-3-3
- Taylor Fedun 9, 0-3-3
- Josh Green 3, 1-1-2
- Magnus Paajarvi 9, 1-1-2
- Dane Byers 9, 1-1-2
- Krisitans Pelss 3, 0-2-2
- Chris VandeVelde 8, 0-2-2
- Tyler Pitlick 9, 0-2-2
- Taylor Hall 1, 1-0-1
- Teigan Zahn 2, 0-1-1
- Curtis Hamilton 6, 1-0-1
- Tanner House 6, 1-0-1
- Antti Tyrvainen 6, 1-0-1
- Brandon Davidson 6, 0-1-1
- Colten Teubert 9, 0-1-1
I’ll post lineups when they become available.

At what point do we start considering the prospect that Hartikainen has jumped ahead of MPS on the depth chart? I don’t think he has yet. But if he keeps this up…
It’s tough to say, but I think the Oilers have already made their choice. jmo. I really like both prospects but based on how they’ve been handled and what the Oilers feel is needed (size, hitting) Paajarvi is in a spot of bother.
I think he’ll end up being that valuable 2-way winger with hands that this team needs so badly. But I have a feeling it’ll be in another town.
Which is a long way of saying I no longer believe they’re applying for the same job.
coolwasabi,
I agree with LT that he already has. Maybe not in terms of long term ceiling/potential, but if the NHL resumed tomorrow I’m pretty sure Harti would be on the Oilers roster and MPS would still be in OKC. I’m still holding out hope the Oilers haven’t given up on MPS. It would be great if he ends up with a Pisani type role on the 3rd line, but I can’t disagree that there’s a good possibility he’ll be moved.
Nice fanpost over at sbnation with an update on perhonen. Looks like he’s back in the mix for wjc.

jfry: cool find, Jfry. All three amigo’s are in today as per Eric Rodgers. 3:30 start time today, gents (and ladies if you’re out there).
A chance to see JF Jacques in action.
Is this the stream everyone is using?

Hooray! I know that at least some of young Martin’s success can be attributed to the “Schultz effect,” but he’s had a nice introduction to the pro game. Plus, seeing one of the Oil’s young defense prospects actually return from an injury in a reasonable amount of time is kind of nice.
Rodgers:
lines: Hall-RNH-Eberle, Hartikainen-Arcobello-Paajarvi, Byers-VandeVelde-Hamilton, Tyrvainen-House-Abney
Marincin/Schultz, Zahn/Teubert, Ringwald/Fedun. Olivier Roy in net.
Fascinating lineup today. All-time AHL 1line, veteran who is solid at evens with the two wing hopefuls on 2line, a typical 3line and then a 4line with crash and bang (the only guy who won’t drive you crazy is named House!).
Top pairing is solid, lets hope Zahn is the answe and the third pairing makes sense. Roy has played very well.
Mr. LT., nice to see you are posting line combos with the centre in the centre
.
It’s Rodgers. I’ll fix him!
So someone noted that Lander is ill? Anyone know what he has? He will have been out all weekend now?
Just curious if it would really matter if he were healthy… I haven’t gotten to watch any of the games, but from what has been posted, it seems he is doing a whole lot of nothing….
Gi JQE,
Food poisoning
EricRodgers_AHLBarons,
Thanks Ericrogers
Too bad on Lander, that’s no fun.
I thought that Swedish guy was gonna score there.
The Young Guns on the cover of THN?

Anyone else see Tyrvainen beaking at the Rampage goalie at the end of the period? Maybe he has an Esa jersey back home.
Haha, Shultz is such a Okanagan kid rocking the flip flops on the cover.
Hall okay on that hit? Looked like the boards rattled.
teubert kind of has that classic tall guy wrist shot…comes up big and straight and has no leg bend. shocker he’s not a scorer
Anyone else’s feed crash?
yep
yep
yep
Well this kind of sucks…
yep
couldn’t resist
Feed is back up
Yep.
I am not actually watching it, but I have a chronic need to fit in!

Just started watching the game and it’s 1-0 San Antonio?!? This game must be a snoozer.
Great a penalty, this game is pretty much over.
2-0 Game over.
Why can’t the Barons’ score
I reconnected for that?
Damn it.
When’s Yakupov’s next game?? It’s been like a week!
Wouldn’t it be nice to watch all these players on the same club?
Yeah, except we still wouldn’t have a defenseman to get them the puck
Yakupov plays this week and next in the Subway series.
Did you have some sort of premonition when you picked that photo LT?
Teubert takes a penalty. Hugely impacts game.
The other Finn with a goal and assist so far this afternoon. Only the ECHL but nice to see him ripping it up just the same. Should give him a nice boost of confidence for AHL duty if they ever get the lockout solved.
Hall’s absence is presumably the result of his being a second line bust. Or because he wasn’t actually a Baron as of press time. But probably the bust one.
Yep! 4th guy would have been Omark. Sugar Linus!
Good story on those guys too. At press time, Hall wasn’t set on going to OKC, and there was some discussion if he could play there or not since the team didn’t assign him there before the lockout.
The 4th guy on the cover would have been Magnus, he’s played the most at the NHL level.
I’m slowly becoming an AHL junkie. Kinda sucks that the rest of our roster (other than the Big 4, Magnus and Harti) are at a level below many of the other teams. Would love to have some of the big guys on the mid lines and mid pairing defensemen of the Aeros or Heat playing on the Barons.
