Joanne Ireland reports this evening that the Edmonton Oilers may be on the verge of sending out Finn Teemu Hartikainen. Plans have the club making the move if Eric Belanger is deemed ready to play. Article is here.
- Ireland: If he’s (Belanger) ready to return, they will likely move Hartikainen to the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League.
Long time Oiler fans will recognize this predictable move is likely because the club has options on Hartikainen without risking waivers. Harski and Magnus Paajarvi (also on the bubble for demotion much of this season) have avoided the OKC trip a few times this season, notably when wingers Darcy Hordichuk and Ben Eager were waived and then sent out.
Hartikainen is unlikely to spend long with the Barons, as the trade deadline is just around the corner and Edmonton is likely to be active. They’ve already acquired winger Mike Brown from Toronto during the deadline window.
