BARONS V CHECKERS 4.5.13

The OKC Barons have an elimation game tonight against the Charlotte Checkers. It’s an elimation for the Checkers too, so it’ll be an exciting game. The Barons playoff scoring (4 games in) shows once again how much this roster has changed over these months since the beginning of the season.

  1. Josh Green 4, 2-6-8
  2. Mark Arcobello 4, 3-3-6
  3. Teemu Hartikainen 4, 2-3-5
  4. Toni Rajala 4, 1-4-5
  5. Tyler Pitlick 3, 2-1-3
  6. Jonathan Cheechoo 4, 1-2-3
  7. Randy Jones 4, 1-2-3
  8. Martin Marincin 4, 1-2-3
  9. Phil Cornet 4, 1-1-2
  10. Chris VandeVelde 4, 1-1-2
  11. C J Stretch 4, 1-1-2
  12. Anton Lander 2, 1-0-1

Plenty of legit prospects in there, a nice run by Hartikainen after being sent down and Rajala continues to rajola. Pitlick’s on a nice run, his first really since turning pro and that’s an encouraging sign. Marincin is playing so well he got a mention from the new GM, and Lander scored and that’s news.

If you want to hear the game, check out the OKC website for listening options. Jim Byers has the pbp.

    *rubs hands*

I wonder who gets the blowout tonight? Should be a good one.

It’s been a crazy series. Phenomenal for somebody!

Anyone else not getting any sound on hockeystreams?

  4. Oilanderp says:

I got that quickly-formed lump of concern in my throat when I saw #6 in a footrace to prevent a breakaway… then I realized it’s not Whitney.

  5. Oilanderp says:

Riley Nash scores on a brutal giveaway…ouch.

  6. Oilanderp says:

Cheechoo buries his own rebound after Cornet threw it at the net. Arco with assist as well.

  7. Oilanderp says:

Lander hands the goalie (Madore) his jock back as he buries a quick one from a pass from Harski. 40 seconds apart were the goals.

  8. Lowetide says:

Cheechoo and then Lander 2-1 OKC

  9. Oilanderp says:

There’s no way Bobby Raymond is 5’10″ (according to the Checker’s website)

  10. Lowetide says:

2-2 now, nearing the end of the first period.

  11. Oilanderp says:

I didn’t realize how many Oiler connections there are with the Checkers.

  12. Lowetide says:

    Hartikainen, from Rajala and Lander

  13. Lowetide says:

    Now Green scores! 4-2

I don’t know if there’s much Rajala can do to improve his position within the organization throughout the playoffs, but hard to see how he’s hurting his position on the depth chart.

*edit* Great timing! I see Rajala scored while I was typing that. 5-2 Barons.

  15. Lowetide says:

    Rajala (Lander)! 5-2 OKC

Just checking in to see how its going. Nice to hear that the Barons are ahead.

Sounds like Lander is having a good night. Was he a scratch earlier in the series?

  17. Oilanderp says:

I don’t like how this Rajala guy keeps getting points. We need to trade him. He’s too small. He keeps getting points.

They have to give this kid a chance, speeds. He’s done everything asked. Everything.

I think he was sent down and took a couple of games to get into the lineup.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Rajala’s advantage over Omark is he is much quicker. He’s having a great first NA pro season and 3 points In a deciding playoff game is impressive. I’ve got to think if the Oil can get some functional toughness on their top 9 in a couple of years he could be a great 4th liner, who can move up the lineup, kind of like how Gionta was for NJ last year.

Alright off to dinner with my in-laws, which I’ve been told is something I would much rather do than watch hockey.

It’s all good, we’ll keep the results warm for your return. I remember those evenings, miss them now my father-in-law is gone.
