  1. What does these numbers tell us? Eager’s concussions have caught up to him and there’s not much really we can say beyond hoping he gets better.
  2. How many concussions? December of 2007; March 2, 2008 (same one?); Fall 2011; January 2013.
  3. Four? That we have reports on, often there are a bunch we don’t know about.
  4. How many is too many? One. However, when concussions happen in short periods that’s a bad sign.
  5. Is he done? Don’t know. I hope he’s okay to play, but worry about his long term health This isn’t an old guy (29) and he has a lot of years ahead of him.
  6. He should quit? I have no idea, just worried about him.
  7. He lost his job to concussions? He lost his job to Mike Brown, the Oilers grew tired of Eager not being able to fill the role. So, they waived Eager, brought in Brown and here we are.
  8. Tambellini said Eager is still in the plans. Tambellini isn’t in the plans, so I doubt he knows the plan for Eager.
  9. He’s signed for another year! Sure, sure. Eager could come to camp, maybe he impresses and wins an NHL job. I’d put the chances of that happening at under 5%.
  10. How much is he playing in OKC? In the playoffs this spring, he’s 4, 0-1-1 -2 with 25pims. Barons have played 8 games.
  11. He’s played half their playoff games? Yes.
  12. That damn Tulipov! During the Joey Moss game, for crying out loud.
  13. Why this song? It’s about loss, tremendous loss, an overwhelming loss. I hope Ben Eager gets his career back, but these last months have not been encouraging.
  14. We’re most of the way through the forwards now, not many are coming back. Certain to return (Hall, Nuge, Eberle, Yak) and likely to return (Gagner, Smyth, Horcoff, Paajarvi, Hartikainen) still out number likely to exit (Hemsky, Petrell, Jones, Belanger, Eager).
  15. Five new forwards this fall? At least. Probably more. If they’re adding, someone (aside from Hemsky) of value is likely to be headed out of town.

A real shame about Eager. Hopefully he can come back in some form to the NHL.

I had high hopes when they signed him that he would be the coveted rugged 3-4 liner that would bring some depth scoring.

Looks like we got a year of that in 11-12 but then …….the elevator shaft.

I certainly don’t blame either player or management for how it turned out.

From what we started with to the end of the year you must consider those leaving as Belanger ,Eager ,Hordichuck , Petrell , Jones , Smithson , . Then the tradeables include Hemsky , Gags , Hartski , Magnus ( not saying we should but if McT wants some impact he may have to let at least 1 or 2 go ) and last is Horc & Smyth with no gurantees . If they sign any of the 10 or so available UFA centers . Basically get 1 younger than Horc and he could be gone . Expect the unexpected people .

Have no clue how Oilers make bold move without moving 1 of young 5 top guns. Trades on periphery not bold

By five young guns, you mean Hall, Nuge, Yak, Eberle, J Schultz? That leaves 7th overall, Gagner, Smid, Petry, next year’s first, Paajarvi, Klefbom etc.

    There’s some quality in there.

I guess I’ll wish Eager all the best. I was among those who were happy with his signing when it happened, but there’s no way he’s still hanging around Edmonton when camp comes. MacT is going to move him on (most likely will have to be a buyout), and talk from Tambo that Eager was still in the plans is a definite part of why he’s no longer employed.

LT, it’s very fair of you to cut Eager some slack for the impact concussions may have had on his career. In hindsight though, this is a guy who’s played for 4 teams in the past 4 years (that’s not even including OKC). We’ve all seen him when he’s “on” – he’s an exceptional 4th liner and maybe even a legit 3rd liner when his head is in the game. But the complaint in Edmonton is we hardly ever saw that player. I’ve got to think it was a similar situation with the other teams he played for. He was traded to SJ 6 months before the Oilers signed him for a 5th rounder. He was a pending UFA, but that’s still really weak value for the kind of player we thought we might be getting.

Those aren’t Cal Clutterbuck numbers. And that’s not what you expect from your enforcer, energy player, or whatever you want to call Eager. Maybe it was the concussions, but I think a bunch of teams have been tantalized by what Ben Eager can be (and occasionally actually is), then disappointed by what he really brings most days of the week.

Petrell, Jones, Peckham. I genuinely wish them all the best. But I feel a bit cheated by Ben Eager (and Belanger). I don’t wish them ill, but I certainly won’t be sorry to see them go.

    Oilers might offer sheet Voynov.

  7. Beaker says:

Why does everyone seem to forget that the players need to sign the offer sheet too?
