Haven’t followed the Barons as much as I’ve wanted lately (not enough time!), but.. Lander hurt again?

    Poor bastard.

Yeah, I think I heard jaw and then someone said lower body. So, playoffs!

  3. Lucinius says:

    Lowetide,

Knowing Lander.. probably both. The guy has the potential to be a third or fourth line NHL center eventually but he cannot catch a break. If its not the organization bending him over the counter its injuries.

  4. RickDeckard says:

    Lowetide,

I like how much emphasis they put on winning. Playing as a team is the most important skill for young prospects to learn at the pro level because they can no longer rely on being more talented than the player surrounding them.

  5. RickDeckard says:

Barons outshoot Griffins 12-6 but trail 1-0. Stupid Czech goaltending.

  6. Lucinius says:

Just watched the Bruins advance to face the Penguins.

Man.. if I’m Henrik Lundqvist.. I get my ass out of New York and to a good team.

  7. Lowetide says:

1-1, CJ Stretch with the tying goal.

  8. Oiler_Kiwi says:

Always wondered if CJ is good at the stretch pass. Sorry, couldn’t resist.

  9. "Steve Smith" says:

    Lowetide,

Even though we’ve established that that’s a real player, can we at least agree to pretend it’s a just an awesome nickname for one of our heralded prospects? It would be more fun to see him score that way.

  10. "Steve Smith" says:

    "Steve Smith",

Either way, and notwithstanding birth certificates, I have decided that “C.J.” stands for “Cornelius James”, and I will not hear any suggestion to the contrary.

The question is who? Marincin is the tallest, Harski pretty close. And yet, the irony of calling Rajala stretch has appeal. What to do….

  12. RickDeckard says:

    Lowetide,

    Gernat next year

  13. Lowetide says:

Hartikainen (Rajala) 2nd point for Rajala 2-1 OKC!

  14. Lowetide says:

    Arcobello (Cheechoo, Cornet) 3-2 OKC

  15. Oilanderp says:

    Yay!

  16. Lowetide says:

Hartikainen with his second of the night into an empy net, 4-2 OKC. Beauty!

  17. jp says:

Very nice! And 1st time GR have been outshot this postseason (37-22 OKC or thereabouts).

  18. Lowetide says:

THIS is something that hasn’t happened since the Bulldogs! Oilers, without help from Montreal, in the final 4 for the second year in a row. And the AHL team has produced Petry and more. HUGE!

And I hate to say it–well not really–but Steve Tambellini deserves credit for this, along with the amateur scouting department.

Agreed. Although Katz probably deserves some credit too. The farm team for once is a comfort, a reassurance, They’ve done all the right things for creating a deep organization. Just need to make sure they keep populating it with quality.

Wow. That was a 4000 lb gorilla that just leapt off Toews’ back.

    Lowetide,

Given the make up of the roster, I’d say that the mgt and pro scouting for the barons is hitting it out of the park — how many echl players can you find in one year?

  21. RexLibris says:

Agreed on Tambellini getting the credit for the development system.

There were stories of the development group keeping almost daily tabs on some of the kids, finding Slovakian ex-pats in Prince George when Marincin was playing there, and so on. He did do development well. It was just the other 95% of his workload that suffered.

  22. RexLibris says:

I can’t wait. Gernat and Marincin on the same pairing, I would pay to see.

  23. RickDeckard says:

    RexLibris,

    The Marty Party

    Cornelius James and the Stretches.

  25. Smarmy says:

Just noticed the Oilers ECHL affliate made the final. Looks like they’ll lose but that’s sort of cool. I would think Roy must have had some strong play to get them that far.

  26. WeridAl says:

    RexLibris,

I believe Gernat has another year of eligibility in the WHL and will be with the Oil Kings next season, Musil is in the same boat, but he will make the jump to the AHL next season. Not much of a chance of Marincin and Gernat playing on the same pair, as both are LHS. Both have the same problem, and that is they both need to bulk up about 20lbs

    Indeed

Good progression by Roy this year.
Roy was injured and Bunz is now the starter for the remainder of the series.

Reading Royals lead the series 3-1. Game 5 occuring now with Stockton down 5-0 in the third period.

Also re. OKC Barons, beauty play by Rajala and Hartikainen tonight. Harti needs to translate some of that AHL offence to the Oilers next year.

  28. RickDeckard says:

    WeridAl,

Both would be overagers though, so the OK would be hesitant to keep them, especially Gernat since he’s an import. Gernat also plays RD from time to time, including at the 2012 WJHC when they were on the same pair.

I don’t believe the Barons would want 2 rookie D and possible 3 if Klefbom doesn’t make the Oilers. Gernat could go to Stockton, but he might be better off playing another year with the OK under the watchful eye of the Oilers.

  30. RickDeckard says:

    WeridAl,

They had Fedun, Davidson and Marincin this year. Andrew Hotham and Nathan Deck are also AHL rookies.

  31. Cobbler says:

I hope they are patient with Hartikainen. He is going to be a heck of a depth player on the Oil with time.

Fedun and Marincin will get long looks at TC in the fall. Does anyone know if they will be at Rookie Camp this summer?

Any ideas on what they do with Cheechoo? Does anyone think the Oil give him a look for 3-4 line next year?
