OKC V CHARLOTTE G3 1.5.13

The OKC Barons and Charlotte Checkers are tied at 1 each and play game three in their series tonight. The big offensive stars for the Barons are Mark Arcobello (2, 3-2-5), Josh Green (2, 1-3-4) and Toni Rajala (2, 0-3-3).

Rajala is going to get some attention as things roll forward, he’s earned it. An article here suggests the important people in the organization are aware of his season:

  • Coach Todd Nelson: “Who knows how many points he would have had if he had been here all season? He might’ve been a candidate for Rookie of the Year. We’re extremely pleased with the way he’s produced.”
  • More Nelson: “His skill set is very high. Besides seeing the ice well and setting up other guys for goals he has a knack for putting the puck in the net. It seems every game there’s something new he tries. And he actually ends up completing the move.”

Could be nothing, probably nothing. Still, they’re not writing stories about the 2nd round picks in OKC, they’re writing them about the little Finn that could.

Toni Rajala.

It’s 3-0 Charlotte already. Are you sure? :-)

  3. Racki says:

Maybe not. lol Wow, that was fast. I just saw on twitter about 5 mins ago that it was 1-0.

  4. Lowetide says:

A little over 8 minutes in. Danis isn’t the MVP this season, that’s for damn sure.

  5. Racki says:

Funny how some figured he could be Dubnyk’s backup here. Yeeeeahhhhh. That’ll happen.

  6. Lowetide says:

    Rajala scored. Lordy.

  7. BlacqueJacque says:

Rajala seems destined for the Rieder career path in Edmonton, given Mac’s recent comments regarding his love of coke machines.

Wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, Kessy’s delivered nicely for Kamloops this season. As an over-ager :/

As soon as Khabi went down I was too damn hasty in the keeper pool with that decision. Now he’s eating up a roster spot while I wait for FA to hit.

  9. Racki says:

Haha Zack.. yah, I wasn’t thinking you when I said that, but that was an interesting decision! And yet you still sneaked ahead of me in standings in the last week..

Good playoffs for Kessey.. well, aside for the whole losing to Portland thing. But Portland is a damn good team.

As for Rajala.. hard for him to crack the line up with that size, but damn…pretty nice numbers with the Barons this year.

  11. LMHF#1 says:

Rajala will simply be the test of whether this team has evolved from the “Jean Francois Jacques 4 Life” era.

  12. BlacqueJacque says:

Holy shit the Leafs are falling apart.

Boychuk just crushed a shot past Reimer. I think Reimer should have had that, though.

  13. BlacqueJacque says:

    Racki,

It’s going to be pretty galling to see Seth Jones play against us, before he plays against us =/

  14. speeds says:

I have no idea what results would have been with a 4th line of Rajala-Arcobello-Omark, what that line would have looked liked, if it would have been effective. Would have been interesting to see though!

LOL! Good point. But at least the Avs are in the other division next year, once things are re-aligned.

Jokinen went 11pts in 10 games regular season with Pens. He has 2 pts tonight in playoff hockey. Could have been picked up for free.

The leafs D looks so bad, I.m sure McT v -1.0 could have gotten a boon for Whitney.

  18. Lucinius says:

    Suntory Hanzo,

They aren’t even using Gardiner, though, because of his defensive zone issues, Whitney would be even worse.

As for Jokinen… it might just be the team he’s on that’s helping his production. I mean.. Its Pittsburgh. Everyone scores well there.

Carlyle would have sat Shultz for all his defensive problems too.

He’s subbing in worse players like Kosta though.

Gardiner was on the all-rookie team and would be a great addition to the Oilers.

    Also,

Joikenen has good SA+/- (shot attempt +/-) over the years and I have no idea why everyone passed on him.

Probably his price tag of $3.1MM scared teams off with the cap going down next year.

    Weird.

  20. RickDeckard says:

The east is such a joke. If the oilers played over there they would have made the playoffs this year.

  21. Lucinius says:

Fucking Torres. Scored on his own team to give the Canucks the lead.

  22. RickDeckard says:

    Lucinius,

Luckily Zack “Totally worth Hogdson” Kassian helped the Sharks tie it up.

Button has his mock draft up, Carolina takes Nurse, Calgary Monahan, Oilers Lindolm.

    Because Button.

I’d be happy with Lindholm or Nichuskin.

  25. Gerta Rauss says:

I’d be happy with Lindholm as well.

I hope the Oilers are doing their homework on Nichushkin ie: any background info regarding his willingness to play in NA and Edmonton specifically and if yes, when.

speeds posted that twitter exchange between Bobby Mac and Pronman a few days ago-they both feel that Nichushkin will be “that guy” that falls in this draft.

I think the top 4 picks go to the top 4 teams with no surprises. That will leave it to Carolina to decide if they want to take on the risk of the Russian, and if not, that decision will then fall to Calgary.

I think there is a good chance that Edmonton is faced with the same decision.

  26. Hockeyman 99 says:

Nichushkin has a very real chance at being the best player from this draft year. If he was playing in Sarnia I think he might be in the conversation for #1.
