Linus Omark is coming off a very successful season in Europe and once again making an effort to find NHL employment. After winning the scoring championship in the Swiss league, this report suggests the skilled winger’s #1 choice is the NHL.
Omark’s ridiculous skills were on display for one season–the year of the rookie in Edmonton (Hall, Eberle, Paajarvi, Omark up front) and he fared very well:
- Jordan Eberle 1.79
- Taylor Hall 1.78
- Linus Omark 1.78
- Magnus Paajarvi 1.36
And he also posted a reasonable Corsi-Rel:
I believe there was more chaos than is shown in those numbers, but the fact remains that Omark (then 23) showed well enough to earn another chance. The following season, both he and Paajarvi were lost in the flood of rookies and he is now in Europe waiting for a new NHL home.
I bring this up because, with a new Oiler GM in town, everything old is new again. Omark’s agent says in the article that teams have shown interest in other leagues, but things are on hold until the Oilers make a move.
A long shot he returns, but perhaps a trade at the draft. It adds to what is going to be an interesting summer.
