OILERS AT 113: AIDEN MUIR

Center-Left wing, 6.03, 183

Western College Hockey: Muir is a 6’3″ 180 lbs. power forward. He’s a decent skater for his size, though there is still some room for improvement. With his frame, there’s also the potential to add a little more strength. His biggest attribute is his grit and toughness in the dirty areas of the ice along the boards and in front of the net, and that he has the hands to make plays in tight spaces. He’s also a very high energy player and a tireless worker.

A kid still in midget….walkabout pick

  2. fifthcartel says:

I bet we have a goalie or two coming in the draft.

  3. striatic says:

i’d call him a coke machine except it is too early to know since he hasn’t played hockey in a real league yet.

  4. Spydyr says:

So they traded down to take a kid in midget……makes no sense to me.

  5. Kitchener says:

With Subban still on the board???

  6. Chamucks says:

This also could have been Subban.
A midget player over a defenseman with 50 points in the OHL.
“He’s small and has defensive issues”.

This kid here has ability to play hockey issues.

  7. spoiler says:

Muir going straight to Western Michigan according to Stauffer… MacT has connection with their coach, Andy Murray.

  8. Ice Sage says:

Spot 113 is the place for Jankowski picks. Maybe the scouts have reached the end of their list? No to Subban, the Oilers D pipeline is clogged

  9. Chamucks says:

    Ice Sage,

Not taking better players because you have too many is a good way to think.

I’m not sure that’s an adequate reason not to take the most likely NHLer left. It’s a lot easier to clear good prospects than to find them.

  11. bookje says:

To be fair, at least the Oilers didn’t pull a Jay Feaster and pick this kid in the first round.

There are very long odds for a 5’9″ D man – no matter what his last name.

  13. Chamucks says:

    Ducey,

And what are the odds of 18 year olds playing Midget Hockey?

  14. Ducey says:

Looks like Muir and Evan Campbell are draft and follows. In 3-4 yrs from now after time in a good college, who knows?

  15. spoiler says:

Evan Campbell from the BCHL Langley Rivermen, 6’02″ 190lbs 51gp 20-46-66 46 PIM

BCHL players tend to go the NCAA route.

Little guys don’t get bigger. Bigger guys can develop.

  17. Chamucks says:

    Ducey,

I would absolutely LOVE to see a list of kids drafted out of midget playing in the league.
    Especially out of the states.
Bet you the list of 5’9 defenseman is 100x longer.
This was just a total waist.

Whatever Subban’s odds are, they are surely independant of the number of D we already have in the system.
And the guy the chose instead is so Eddie Murphy RAW. Hard pick to love.

  19. Lloyd B. says:

I heard we wanted to add size to our line up. And we pick a midget?
