Surprised Kane won the Conn Smythe. I thought Crawford would win it.

  2. DBO says:

So has MacT made a trade yet?

  3. gogliano says:

Craig Dithers MacTavish is still too busy wondering if he should go with KFC or Taco Time.

In any event, wonderful turn of events at the end. I was looking forward to another overtime but I’m happy for the new Chicago model of hockey.

  4. Gerta Rauss says:

I don’t think anybody has left the building yet. Most are still in shock but I think Bruins fans are hanging around out of respect for the champions.

  5. Kris11 says:

Great series for hockey in the States. Big city, original 6 teams. Very competitive.

  6. DBO says:

So no goon on 4th line. 6 solid D, with one of them a young puck mover who was sheltered when needed. And a 4th line who can actually play. Sounds like a dream.

  7. serum114 says:

I don’t think the league can award the Cup to a team with that many small guys in their top six can they?

especially with Kane not applying under the “good canadian boys with heart” exemption.

  9. DBO says:

Bowman – “Defense is important in this new NHL. Players who can play big minutes and move the puck”. What, having 3 guys who shouldn’t be in the NHL as our 5-6-7 defense isn’t a recipe for victory? Weird. He;’s no Tambo.

  10. oilersfan says:

As much as we are all dying for some action i doubt anything big happens this week with the oilers. Stauffer said today the oil will likely not trade hemsky until a week into free agency when teams dont get what they chase in free agency as his value will be higher then. If we trade horcoff I think we all know his value is little so the only benefit in return will be some cap space. Lets just hope Mact can find a way to use it.

having Keith and Seabrook develop *before* their young core is the primary difference between Chicago and Edmonton, i think.

  12. PunjabiOil says:

Give Chicago credit – they took advantage of the cap circumvention deals (Hossa), buried contracts overseas (Huet), front loaded contracts (Campbell) to their advantage, etc. They also drafted and traded well.

The Edmonton Oilers need to stop wasting bullets and start being more aggressive. There is no reason for them not to be legitimate Cup contenders in 2-3 years.

    There just isn’t.

  13. doritogrande says:

Best of luck to the Calgary Flames next season.

  14. tcho says:

Congrats to the Chicago Blackhawks! Great team.

    Time to rant…and gloat.

Duncan Keith was the best Hawk this series and should have won the Conn Smythe

Dear NHL…go F yourself. Hard as you tried to force a game 7 with absolute crap refereeing you got OWNED.

Dear Brendan Shanahan. You’re a joke and a complete tool. What’s your position again? Puppet?

Dear Claude Julian. You should win coach of the year every year. Can’t be easy teaching an ape and a giraffe to play hockey.

Dear Boston….hahaha. Nice try on the intimidation front. Try strengthening your top 6 next year.

Yaaaa babyyyyyy. This one feels sooo sweet. Much sweeter than 2010

  16. Kitchener says:

    Lessons from the Cup:

    - How does Chara not win the Norris every year? He’s a one-man crew.
    - Anyone here want to retract their comments about Lucic several weeks ago??
    - Jagr is THE MUST-TARGET UFA for MacT this off-season.
    - “Skill” can win cups.
    - A young core (2010 Hawks) matters, and we’ve got it. Now we need the rest.

  17. PunjabiOil says:

Jagr wouldn’t be a bad idea. Give him $5M and he’ll sign (he’s always been about the cash). Worst case scenario you have a deadline asset. You also buy yourself some time if you feel the UFA pool is better next summer

    Definitely a guy to consider.

  18. Dead Oiler walking says:

Yes LT I read this post from beginning to end. Concise but it says it all. Thanks for this blog but it makes me late for work so often. You’re working your fingers to the bone ( how do you get the blood off the keys) this month and you can’t be getting much sleep making this draft so great for us devotees. Now that the cup is won, we all can follow every move this summer right here. It’s also interesting watching your everyone vying to break the latest. Go McT. Go Oilers.

  19. FastOil says:

Once Bergeron was compromised, the Bruins lost 2. Oiler fans beware, if Gagner goes down in the playoffs, we’re done!

  20. slopitch says:

MacT should push hard for Duchene. Likely not the guy Colorado wants to move but something needs to shake free there in Colorado.

7th + Smid? I dunno what it would take.

  21. slopitch says:

I’d pass on Jagr. Doubt he’d come here anyways

Duncan Keith was brilliant for Chicago. All over the puck. Congrats to the Blackhawks.

Was looking through rosters for cheap D help and came across Mark Fayne in NJ. I don’t watch many Eastern games and don’t know much about the Devils at all. But he caught my eye; anyone know how appreciated he is there?

    He’s a 6’3″ 215lbs R shooting 26yo Dman. He has 1 more year at 1.3M, then turns UFA.

This year among NJ Dmen: 6th on team in TOI/60 (15.08), 4th in PK/60 (2.35), and essentially 0 PP time.

He was 1st Corsi Rel QoC at 0.783, 8th (last) for Corsi Rel QoT (-1.139), but managed 6.6 for Corsi Rel and +0.9 for GF On/60 – GA On/60. Impressive, but it gets better.

Looking at WOWYs: among teammates (F and D) who played at least 30 minutes with him (arbitrary cut off), 14/18 posted better Corsi numbers (CF%) with him than without. Average for the 14 was 6.5; average for the 4 was 0.6.

It seems Greene, Salvador, Zidlicky, Larsson, and Tallinder are all given more minutes, with Harrold and Volchenkov right behind. Could he be smuggled out of NJ for cheap?

  23. Magnus says:

    Cal Clutterbuck for Tyler Pitlick?
If that’s the asking price, why hasn’t that deal been made yet?

  24. Thor762 says:

That seems like a hell of a good return on the disappointment that Pitlick has been thus far.

    Paajarvi is getting traded folks

  26. LMHF#1 says:

I’ll be quite ashamed of this team if they do pick up Coward Clutterbuck. Really not fun having to boo a member of the home team, but I will. Dealing with that moron Sutton was bad enough.

  27. art vandelay says:

As a Bruins fans, I can honestly say it was refreshing to see the best team in the NHL actually win the Cup. Congratulations to Blackhawks fans.

  28. hodgkins says:

Getting Clutterbuck for Pitlick would mean that the 3rd line is being filled out if the Hemsky to Ottawa deal is true. One thing is for sure, I can’t wait to see what happens in the next few weeks.

So…I agree with Art on something.
