BACHMAN TURNER OVERDRIVE

Oilers have signed their AHL goalie, Richard Bachman. I like it. Solid goalie, also sang lead on ‘Let it Ride.’

rodgers bachman

His numbers look good until last year, AHL starter and then an NHL backup. If they’d signed him yestersay I wouldn’t have been that mad, and will credit MacT with upgrading the quality and depth of the 2-3 goalies in the organization.

    Also pseudonym of Stephen King.

    Busy man.

    Renaissance type.

My belief first is that it’s the AHL.. just about anyone can be a starter in net there. So this is fine by me. Doesn’t look like he’s played a lot in the last couple years, so hopefully he’s healthy enough to handle the load there.

I think he challenges Labarbera for G2 unless Lab. has a one-way.
    Oilers, takin’ care of business

His last strong season was 10/11 but if those were his #’s head to head with OKC nice signing

  5. striatic says:

he’s a good goalie for limited NHL starts. he’s managed to rack up a few of those behind the perpetually ailing Lehtonen and while he comes out of the gate strong, he simply isn’t an NHL calibre goalie.

he has a barely positive win/loss record which on an extremely average to below average team like Dallas demonstrates his mediocrity.

i like this signing. go barons.

So, he’s a good #3. Any ideas why MacT didn’t go after Khudobin rather than LaBarbera? I think he signed cheap in Carolina. East coast guy?

    Whonowwhatnow?

last year Khudobin had a worse SV% than LaBarbera in the same number of games behind a comparable defense.

LaBarbera also trains with Dubnyk and they are apparently buddies.

32P in 41GP for Michigan last year.

not bad. certainly seems to bring more offense than Bigos 17P in 34GP for Merrimack although quality of teammates and TOI has to be taken into account here.

Dang, you beat me to that angle!

Yeah, apparently Dubie and Barbie are friends and training partners, and so Dubie was advocating a fair bit for them to get him.

I also like what MacT said about getting Barbie – that he’s a capable NHL backup but makes Dubie the unquestioned #1, and gives him the opportunity (and pressure) to prove he’s ready for the job.

Very interesting. I read Strudwick’s article at ON about what a buckup should be able to do. This would fit in that mold.

    Looking forward to that.

Lababera is perfect, if dd’s input is true. Gives him the ball, provides a capable backup he is apparently friends with as well. Smooths over the Schneider fiasco. Happy about this. We have capable goalies ringing in for a combined salary under 5 mil. Perfect.

The issue with Ference is more of term than anything. I would have prefered we tailed that contract a bit. Cap hit of 3+mil with actual dollars 4 4 3.0 2.0 or something. Makes him a more palatable piece you might be able to trade in later years to salary floor type crowd. I know it’s minor but it still makes more sense.

That’s true, but you have to remember that the new CBA puts a fairly stringent restriction on how much your salary $ can vary from year to year. It seems that although variation is allowed, the restrictions are substantial enough that most contracts these days are just flat $, with cap hit = $ paid in every year of the contract.

Anyway we are capable of putting together a package with the jackets? Dubinsky and Tyutin for?

Huh. Showed more offense one season, but under 20 pts his other 3 college years. Certainly not an offense first guy, but presumably more mobile than Bigos. A little younger too.

They just seem to have a lot of money tied up long term in 3-4 type defenders…

Am I the only one that thinks Labarberas a bad goalie?.. Below average backup at best imo.I like the Bachman pickup though, think he might even be better than Labarbera as early as this season.
