PS G3: OILERS V JETS

Dallas Eakins will be behind the bench tonight in Winnipeg for the first time as Oilers head coach. I would have thought he’d have packed a better hockey club, but he appears to be determined to give everyone a chance. There are some interesting “players to watch” tonight.

THE WARMUP

hurdle gif

 TONIGHT’S LINEUP

  • Gagner-Omark-Jones
  • Arcobello-R Hamilton-Yakupov
  • Lander-Joensuu-Pitlick
  • Martindale-Moroz-Abney
  • Smid-Petry
  • Grebeshkov-Larsen
  • Klefbom-Davidson
  • LaBarbera-Bachman

The Jets are dressing a much better team (home side usually does so in pre-season) but there’s some fun things for Oiler fans.  Sam Gagner has Linus Omark and Ryan Jones to help him with Kane-Jokinen-Setoguchi, so that should go well. The Arco line is going to be fun to watch, and Tyler Pitlick makes an appearance before harvest is through.

The blue features Smid-Petry plus Grebeshkov-Larsen, and two very interesting kids in Klefbom and Davidson. Hey, I think the entire fourth line, both goalies, plus the third pairing is going to be headed to OKC soon, but good for Davidson (cover photo by Rob Ferguson, all rights reserved) and there’s little doubt he’s made an impression this camp.

At this point, I think we’re down to 5 or less roster spots in question for the Edmonton Oilers 13-14. They may be active around the end of the month, possibly bringing in some size or a center, and they may be ready to move on from some players.

  1. At center, is it Arcobello for Nuge; is it Lander for Acton?
  2. On the wing, does Ryan Hamilton win the day over Omark?
  3. On the blue, do the Russians push one or both of Larsen/Potter out of the equation?
  4. Does Ty Rimmer get a contract?

OILERS PRE-SEASON SCORING

  1. Jesse Joensuu 1, 1-1-2
  2. Taylor Fedun 1, 0-2-2
  3. Taylor Hall 1, 1-0-1
  4. David Perron 1, 1-0-1
  5. Ryan Jones 1, 1-0-1
  6. Ryan Smyth 1, 1-0-1
  7. Martin Marincin 1, 1-0-1
  8. Mark Arcobello 1, 1-0-1
  9. Kyle Platzer 1, 1-0-1
  10. Ales Hemsky 1, 0-1-1
  11. Nail Yakupov 1, 0-1-1
  12. Jordan Eberle 1, 0-1-1
  13. Justin Schultz 1, 0-1-1
  14. Jeff Petry 1, 0-1-1
  15. Boyd Gordon 1, 0-1-1
  16. Ryan Hamilton 1, 0-1-1
  17. Denis Grebeshkov 1, 0-1-1
  18. Mike Brown 1, 0-1-1
  19. Brandon Davidson 1, 0-1-1
  20. David Musil 1, 0-1-1
  21. Darnell Nurse 1, 0-1-1

I hope Larsen doesn’t get anyone killed today. That suicide pass in the @Calgary game was scary to behold.

Excited to see Klefbom and the third and fourth line. Not sure why Yak keeps getting Arcobello has his centre, Arco hasn’t been very engaged to my eye.

Also, the Jets aren’t starting their top line either so it should be a close match!

  2. Lowetide says:

BlacqueJacque: Agree on Arcobello, I keep wondering if he’s a place holder for the Nuge.

  3. Woodguy says:

Hey, I think the entire third line, both goalies, plus the third pairing is going to be headed to OKC soon,

I thought you had Joensuu making the team?

Meant 4th line, but am addled. 4th line.

  5. Lowetide says:

    It’s that damn hurdler. I can’t concentrate!

  6. VanOil says:

I would have been more interested in seeing Joensuu on a skilled line with Yak rather than Hamilton. The coach seems to have fully bought into Hamilton so I guess he makes the team. I have yet to notice him for better or worse in any of the brief viewings the NHL affords us out of towners.

  7. regwald says:

    Lowetide:
    It’s that damn hurdler. I can’t concentrate!

And I thought that was the purpose … to distract us from a mind numbing pre-season game from hell watching the jittery on-line video feed.

  8. VanOil says:

    Lowetide:
    It’s that damn hurdler. I can’t concentrate!

Yes but it is a lovely way to achieve a Steve Smith like Zen

  9. Melman says:

Lowetide: Meant 4th line, but am addled. 4th line.

Since you’re sending LaBarbera to OKC as well, can we please sign the hurdler to our roster of 23 and name her as our backup G? I wonder what inspiration that will provide Eakins for the dressing room refit :)

  10. Lowetide says:

I do want LaBarbera send down, it’s difficult to spell his name. Why can’t we have a Smith?

  11. Woodguy says:

    Lowetide:
    It’s that damn hurdler. I can’t concentrate!

    Youth is beauty.

I never truly understood that until I turned 40.

I want to be 18 again.

  12. Lowetide says:

    Woodguy: Youth is beauty.

I never truly understood that until I turned 40.

I want to be 18 again.

True that. Being an elder ain’t what it used to be!

  13. Numenius says:

Out of towners can get the game on Hockey Streams if you sign up and pay them some money. The service is well worth it in my opinion, and I think it’s LT approved too. I have the year package.

  14. delooper says:

Anyone know how to watch the game from BC? The feed on the Oilers site is blocked here. :(

  15. Lowetide says:

Hahaha. The feed won’t work for me. In St. Albert. good grief!

  16. Lowetide says:

    Jets feed works though!

  17. delooper says:

St. Albert isn’t close enough to Alberta, clearly.

  18. BlacqueJacque says:

    delooper,

Why does government sell our rights away? I mean really, what right does a company have to implement geoblocking?

  19. delooper says:

The Winnipeg feed works in BC, too.

  20. delooper says:

Winnipeg has a really tiny player.

  21. theres oil in virginia says:

The WPG feed works down here in Ole Virginny too.

Fucking Oilers. What are they thinking?

  22. fifthcartel says:

    Lowetide,

    Same here, very confusing haha.

  23. Lowetide says:

    delooper:
Winnipeg has a really tiny player.

    Size doesn’t matter.

  24. delooper says:

BJ – I imagine the Oilers sold the out-of-area rights to some rebroadcaster. If you can find a good proxy I suppose you could spoof your address to make it look like you were in Alberta. I’m too lazy for that, so I watch the Winnipeg feed.

  25. BlacqueJacque says:

    Oh no that anthem singer.

They should have a warning to mute before she goes.

  26. Cobbler says:

    Jets feed works in Newfoundland…..yay!!!

  27. delooper says:

That’s a really aggravating singing voice.

  28. BlacqueJacque says:

    delooper,

But what right have they to do that? :[

  29. Lowetide says:

The anthem singer may have broken the glass in my computer.

  30. B S says:

Jets feed works from Rhode Island. Stupid edmontonoilers.com.

  31. delooper says:

BJ – hmm, you’d think if the Oilers sold the out-of-area rights to somebody, they’d at least TELL people who that is in their webpage…. so that interested people could go there to watch.

  32. B S says:

    Lowetide: Size doesn’t matter.

Hey at this point where just happy to see it.

  33. Lowetide says:

Pitlick tripped, looked a little flukey but it’s something.

  34. Ducey says:

I hope they do not sign Rimmer. 5’11” and a .912 save % in the WHL will not add up to a .920 save % in the NHL

  35. BlacqueJacque says:

I don’t understand this love for Davidson. He’s calm, sure, but no faster than Musil.

Larsen’s not a very strong defender either, trouble handling some middling Jets player off the rush.

  36. BlacqueJacque says:

I can’t quite describe it, but this Oilers defence looks a lot better than the Kreuger system.

Klefbom almost got caught on the wrong side of the ice, bailed out by that offside call.

  37. Bruce McCurdy says:

I think it’s telling that Moroz-Martindale-Abney (a.k.a. Martindale-Moroz-Abney) just naturally falls out as the MMA Line, whether one uses the “LT Method” or the “Civilized Society Method” is immaterial.

  38. Lowetide says:

    Smid wonky there. lordy

  39. Ribs says:

    Edmonton Oilers ‏@EdmontonOilers 8m

This one seems to work for me now way up in GP.

  40. fifthcartel says:

Oilers site works now, but it’s just the Jets feed.

  41. Lowetide says:

Klefbom just made an effective play.

  42. voxwah says:

If you are outside of Alberta, use this link to watch:

    http://oilers.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=92181

    I’m watching from B.C.

  43. delooper says:

I was worried the Oilers would look crappier than this. So far so good. Some good plays by people like Klefbaum.

  44. Lowetide says:

Klefbom made another effective play, muscling the puck out and then covered his man and removed the pucj effectively there. MUCH better than Penticton.

  45. Ribs says:

Larsen looking engaged. Hasn’t done anything ridiculous yet. Good, good.

I guess Lander didn’t get any faster in the offseason. That’s a shame.

  46. crude says:

Tired line caught a break there with the Setagoochy penalty. Jones tried to clear the zone using telepathy just before that.

  47. striatic says:

BlacqueJacque: I can’t quite describe it, but this Oilers defence looks a lot better than the Kreuger system.

i thought the team as a whole was playing closer together when they didn’t have the puck.

not quite a trap, because they aren’t standing up on the line, but sort of a retreating 5 man unit with tight spacing.

i’m not seeing that any more though. more the two man forecheck which sort of makes a 5-man retreat impossible.

  48. VanOil says:

Dismayed about not being able to view the game I started listing to the radio and opened my mail. I got a note from Telus the they were automatically renewing and billing me for the NHL Centre Ice package. So I checked none of the channels are live yet. I hate auto renewals and was undecided if i would opt for this or the online version.

Fortunately I came back here and Delooper informed us about the Jets small feed working in BC. I am sure it is an IT mistake by the NHL allowing this to happen and expect to be cut off soon.

What possible revenue does the NHL hope to get from me that would make them not want me to be able to enjoy the Oilers feed of an NHL pre-season out of town game. I subscribe to TSN, SportsNet and pay taxes to the CBC. I also am paying for NHL Centre Ice which claims I can enjoy games in stunning HD. The only thing I can figure is they want me to Fly to Fucking Winnipeg because they are struggling to sell seats there I can’t tell with the stunning stream they are offering right out of 1982.

  49. BlacqueJacque says:

I love that Omark comes up with the puck against Big Fugly.

  50. Lowetide says:

Davidson with a nice play. Positioning is good here for the blue. One gap earlier in the period where a WPG fwd did a Pete Mahovlich but other than that not bad at all.

  51. crude says:

See Omark wiggle away from a rumblin Byfuglien and keep the puck? Crazy.

  52. Nightman_ says:

    BlacqueJacque,

was about to say this, amazing

  53. delooper says:

Martindale seems to be missing NHL-level puck-awareness.

  54. BlacqueJacque says:

    Lowetide,

Davidson follows that up with a weak play and takes a justifiable-ish penalty as a consequence. He can be next to go down, IMO.

  55. Lowetide says:

Scrambly play and now a penalty by Davidson. I’d say that entire 5 are to blame but Davidson lost position on Byfgulien.

  56. Oilanderp says:

Davidson pooped himself a little when he saw Kane coming in on him 1 on 1.

  57. Bruce McCurdy says:

crude: Jones tried to clear the zone using telepathy just before that.

It wasn’t effective either! That was a very tired-looking play.

  58. Jon K says:

Grebeshkov has already looked awful on turnovers in transition. The team as a whole has had trouble making it through the neutral zone with the puck.

  59. BlacqueJacque says:

    Oilanderp:
Davidson pooped himself a little when he was Kane coming in on him 1 on 1.

To be fair, Kane already burned him twice before.

  60. Lowetide says:

Gagner worked a nice SH 2-on-1 there, just missed.

  61. striatic says:

Sam Gagner is good at hockey.

  62. Lowetide says:

Oilers VERY aggressive on the PK

  63. BlacqueJacque says:

    Lowetide,

Yeah, they don’t really get stuck in the box. They go after the puck. I wonder how that’ll work out against high-skill teams like Chicago and Vancouver.

  64. Oilanderp says:

    OMG its the diamond PK!

  65. BlacqueJacque says:

Joensuu certainly isn’t shy about shooting the puck. I like it.

Oh my, that was a nifty pass by Gagner!

  66. Lowetide says:

That was a nice shift by the Pitlick-Lander-Joensuu line. Quite liked. Worried about Larsen, first time I’ve really seen him. He’s kind of goofy

  67. oilinthepeg says:

I wish this Jets feed wasn’t filmed on an iPhone.

    I blame the tweeters.

  68. Lowetide says:

Gagner Yakupov VERY nice give and go there. Jesus.

  69. striatic says:

Sam Gagner is *really* good at hockey.

  70. crude says:

Gagner is a cut above tonight for sure. Great D and O on the same shift.

  71. theres oil in virginia says:

    delooper:
Martindale seems to be missing NHL-level puck-awareness.

Yeah, I’ve noticed that too. He looks like he is overly focussed on getting into position and not so much on getting the loose puck when it’s three feet away. Nerves.

Pitlick hasn’t looked bad. Not really good either, but not bad.

  72. Oilanderp says:

She must have been from out of town.

  73. Professor Q says:

Some alright hockey going on there.

  74. delooper says:

The feed Voxwah links to above on the Oilers website also works in BC. The video quality seems a tiny bit better.

  75. Lowetide says:

0-0 after one. Among the guys who are on the bubble, I thought Grebeshkov, Klefbom and (believe it or not) Pitlick played pretty well. A little disappointed in Hamilton and Larsen, and Arcobello was not good.

  76. delooper says:

Is the Winnipeg lineup really rusty, or are they taking the Oilers too lightly? I figured the Oilers would be blown-out with this weak lineup. I guess maybe enough of the Oiler prospects know if they don’t play well in this game they’re heading straight to OKC tonight.

  77. VanOil says:

I believe Yakupov to be a very respectful young man, your mileage may vary due to the height of your collar.

I also think his love of hockey and his competitive instinct is of the charts.

Given these beliefs I further believe I would love to see the conversation between Eakins and Yak if Eakins decides to sit Yak for the Vancouver game. He did seem to be very successful last time he played them. I am not sure this young man accepts the concept of pacing ones self as valid or applicable to him.

    Eakins will love him

  78. striatic says:

Jon K: Grebeshkov has already looked awful on turnovers in transition.

i’m ok with that. if you’re going to turn over the puck, that isn’t the worst place to do it.

much more tolerable than his blown coverages in the split squad game.

we all know that Grebeshkov is going to bring the chaos, but so long as it only shows up on the opposition’s side of the red line, trying to create strong chances on offense, i’m ok with it.

  79. crude says:

Looked to me like the Jets figured out a little fore-checking goes a long way unless Gagner is on the ice. Hold on to your hats.

  80. BlacqueJacque says:

    delooper,

Winnipeg isn’t playing its top line either. No Ladd-Little-Wheeler.

They’ve actually got impressive depth in forwards, without super-elite talent.

    Ladd-Little-Wheeler
    Kane-Jokinen-Setoguchi
    Wright-Scheifele-Frolik

  81. WheresYourTowel says:

Yak & Eakins: Both hate limits, but only one likes surprises.

  82. Bruce McCurdy says:

Abney credited with 2 hits &, get this, 1 takeaway in the first.

Time I noticed him most was when the puck came to him in the neutral zone at the start of his shift & he just skated away from it and went over to his wing.

  83. Lowetide says:

    Bruce McCurdy:
Abney credited with 2 hits &, get this, 1 takeaway in the first.

Time I noticed him most was when the puck came to him in the neutral zone at the start of his shift & he just skated away from it and went over to his wing.

It’s the same damn dog whistle N Schultz heard last year!

  84. theres oil in virginia says:

I get the feeling that positioning was preached loudly and some of the young guys are forgetting about the puck.

  85. gvblackhawk says:

    Bruce McCurdy,

Almost as if the puck was a grenade.

  86. striatic says:

    theres oil in virginia,

    i was thinking the same.

i’m ok with it though. overall it is working, and the more the players play within the system, the easier it will get for them.

  87. OilFire says:

    WheresYourTowel:
Yak & Eakins: Both hate limits, but only one likes surprises.

    Awesome. Just Awesome.

Also: That Yakupov is a real beaut on the ice.

  88. Lowetide says:

Really liking Klefbom, he doesn’t just give up the blueline. A strong hip check there led to a saved sortie.

  89. BlacqueJacque says:

    Bachmann looked pretty sharp there.

  90. Lowetide says:

    Grebs nice!

  91. BlacqueJacque says:

Oilers kinda look like the 2013 Oilers in the offensive zone – no sustain.

  92. Lowetide says:

    Abney. Le sewer.

  93. striatic says:

    Lowetide:
    Grebs nice!

it would have been nice if he’d been more in position initially, but good on him for getting back just in time.

  94. B S says:

Nice shift by Moroz. Lander seems to do everything but score.

  95. B S says:

    BlacqueJacque,

Bachman’s looked sharp so far, solid positioning and always watching the puck.

  96. VanOil says:

Joensuu has potential to be a revelation. Imagine a world where Oilers management no longer feels emasculated enough and stop trading for and drafting coke machines

  97. crude says:

Pre season is always funny to watch. I keep thinking Whitney is doing a good job down low – but of course that is the new and improved Harski – Jessi.

  98. Young Oil says:

Lander and Joensuu are actually really good together. Great job at keeping possession, and Joensuu seems to shoot every time he has the puck, which is really good to see! We need more of that on the team.

  99. striatic says:

    Randy Jones!

  100. VanOil says:

    Randy Jones, Perfect

  101. OilFire says:

The announcer is obviously a big fan of Randy Jones.

  102. Lowetide says:

    Randy Jones! DRINK!

  103. crude says:

    solid play by Pitlick there

  104. BlacqueJacque says:

    We’re not winning this one.

Oh, great, I type that and they score =/

  105. Young Oil says:

Surprised they put Yak on the PK. I guess it’s just the preseason, but he’s very out of his element.

  106. striatic says:

i think Bachman mishandled that a little bit.

not to hang the goal on him, but the first of two rebounds was him using his stick to poke the puck into a danger area.

  107. VanOil says:

Smid was both pinching and delivering outlet passes that shift. I hope he is not hearing that damn dog whistle.

  108. Oilanderp says:

    striatic,

    the first two rebounds…. lol

  109. Ryan says:

Question for those with free time on their hands…

I know the Oilers roster is pretty rough, but they seem to be getting torched on the shot clock thru 3 games against other crappy pre-season rosters.

Could this be a product of Eakin’s system?

  110. BlacqueJacque says:

    Ryan,

    I have no idea.

But they can’t break the zone, when they do they can’t keep the puck. The only times the Oilers have had any sustain was one Gagner-Yakupov shift and one fourth line shift.

  111. Lowetide says:

    Ryan:
Question for those with free time on their hands…

I know the Oilers roster is pretty rough, but they seem to be getting torched on the shot clock thru 3 games against other crappy pre-season rosters.

Could this be a product of Eakin’s system?

Too soon to tell. iirc the Saturday contests were much closer than “torched” but I don’t honestly recall the numbers

  112. striatic says:

Ryan: but they seem to be getting torched on the shot clock

they were within two shots of the Jets for most of the 2nd period, then they gave up a lot of shots on that PK.

i think if you were to look at the shots 5v5 it’d be pretty close.

  113. BlacqueJacque says:

Welp, Davidson and Hamilton have just stamped their visas and are heading out of town.

  114. B S says:

    Ryan,

It might be more of a product of the bottom six not being able to actually hit the net with the puck.

  115. striatic says:

Larsen and Davidson not looking good there.

  116. Lowetide says:

Ryan Hamilton exposed a little there. 2-0 WPG

  117. OilFire says:

    Ryan,

As simple as being outplayed this period, happens to all teams. As for system, biggest change I see is supporting each other in the D zone appears more effective. Only after setup though, transition defense still a firesale.

  118. striatic says:

think Omark has looked better defensively than Hamilton, and i’d say that even without the minus on Hamilton’s sheet.

  119. BlacqueJacque says:

    Randy Jones!

  120. crude says:

    drink

  121. striatic says:

    Randy Jones! Again!

  122. B S says:

    Randy Jones. Drink again!

  123. VanOil says:

I have now completely for got Jones first name can we agree to Randy for rest of the year

  124. Lowetide says:

    Abney. Le skewer.

  125. OilFire says:

    VanOil,

Announcer trying to be the next Cherry…

    Teddy Peckman anybody?

  126. Lowetide says:

Hamilton with a horrible pass. Man. I thought he looked so good the other night, but this has been a poor effort.

  127. BlacqueJacque says:

Pitlick had time, why did he take a hopeless shot? =/

  128. OilFire says:

    Grebs with a beautiful pass

    … to the Jets

… in the Oilers zone. Womp womp.

  129. junglerot says:

Pitlick certainly seems to believe in his wrist shot. The NHL goaltender does not.

  130. BlacqueJacque says:

So far Smid is the only Oiler dman who hasn’t been embarrassed. Petry has had a good game other than letting Scheifele by.

I’d love to be a fly on the wall in that Oilers dressing room right now. I wonder if Eakins is doing a Tortorella impression, or is he more gentle, like Keenan?

  131. crude says:

Was it just me, or was there little of the Oiler first line in that 2nd period?

  132. Young Oil says:

Call me crazy, but depending on how Belov adjusts to the North American game, Klefbom might be our 6th best defenceman. Not saying he should start in the NHL, but he’s making a damn good case.

  133. Ryan says:

    OilFire:
    Ryan,

As simple as being outplayed this period, happens to all teams. As for system, biggest change I see is supporting each other in the D zone appears more effective.Only after setup though, transition defense still a firesale.

Sorry lost the original train of thought–my wife and all.

What I was wondering is whether or not teams that historically (recently) are effective in terms of corsi %, get pounded in the preseason with these rosters or if their system holds up.

Agreed that the Oilers system looks better in their own end after a setup, but not so good in the neutral zone

  134. BlacqueJacque says:

    crude:
Was it just me, or was there little of the Oiler first line in that 2nd period?

Hard to say. Either they never had the puck and were never close to it (like the rest of the team) or maybe Eakins is seeing how the tweeners handle themselves.

  135. Lowetide says:

Through two, among the hopefuls I think we’re down to Klefbom as a guy we can brag about (and of course there are holes). Third in TOI at evens among defensemen, he’s been used on the PK and his positioning has been good for where he is as a player.

Bachman has had a good game, too. After that, there are issues. Not enough talent to come back in this one, unless WPG starts taking penalties and Gagner/Yakupov take over.

    Young Oil:
Call me crazy, but depending on how Belov adjusts to the North American game, Klefbom might be our 6th best defenceman. Not saying he should start in the NHL, but he’s making a damn good case.

Klef’s been alright, but i think Davidson is making him look better than he actually has been.

if Klefbom is the 6th defenseman to start the season, i will be very disappointed.

    hoping Belov shows well.

Yeah, injury and rust and all, but Klefbom hasn’t look great to my eye from any angle really.

  138. Bruce McCurdy says:

    BlacqueJacque:
So far Smid is the only Oiler dman who hasn’t been embarrassed.Petry has had a good game other than letting Scheifele by.

… & those other two 2-on-1s where he was “also in frame”

  139. Lowetide says:

By my count it’s 22-15 shots for WPG outside the PP’s.

  140. BlacqueJacque says:

    Lowetide,

Yeah, other than Lander and maybe Joensuu, the entire bottom six can go. Hopefully the last we see of Arco and Eakins pet Hamilton. Larsen, Grebeshkov and Davidson have proven they don’t belong either.

Klefbom might stick around because we’re lacking better options, which would be a shame because he’d likely be #7D and that’s no way to get experience – so I don’t really think it’ll happen.

  141. BlacqueJacque says:

Bruce McCurdy: … & those other two 2-on-1s where he was “also in frame”

I admit I missed those. I blame Randy Jones. *hick*

  142. prairieschooner says:

I think part of the shots against is from the 2 man forecheck which when play goes the other way seems to allow their wingers a bit of room against a chasing back d man

Dreger has oilers wanting Nuge on 8 year deal.

  144. OilFire says:

    BlacqueJacque,

None of Joensuu, Hamilton, Omark look good enough for 3LW in this game. Hamilton and Joensuu need to be one of more physically aggressive and/or participating in passing plays with NHL speed/awareness. Omark can only do the second, so he really needs to show himself dangerous creating chances. Not happening so far. Arco had a few nice moments in the first, not off the charts good, but NHL level passing and puck management.

I’m very fine with 8 years.

  146. striatic says:

    prairieschooner,

i’m not a fan of the two man forecheck. i know it is often effective when used against the Oilers, but it doesn’t seem to work the other way around.

  147. Hockeyman 99 says:

Can they get it done for less than 6 mil? Does it matter? Is it better that the big four all get paid the same for team reason even if you could push for less based on Landeskogs deal?

  148. fifthcartel says:

I was so ready for that Yak shot to go in. :(

  149. Lowetide says:

    fifthcartel:
I was so ready for that Yak shot to go in. :(

    me too!

  150. Kitchener says:

    Yakupov!!!

Holy shit – Yak is on our team! After 2 #1′s it’s easy to use too few !’s

  151. Hockeyman 99 says:

    Grebs doesn’t look so good.

  152. striatic says:

Hockeyman 99: Can they get it done for less than 6 mil?

no, but getting more term with more UFA years would make it effectively a less expensive deal than what Hall signed.

  153. Lowetide says:

Omark gets Abney this period, which, honestly, is about right.

  154. Hockeyman 99 says:

    ahhhh

  155. striatic says:

i think every time Gagner and Yakupov have been on the ice they’ve been dangerous.

  156. Lowetide says:

Pitlick shoots one step out of the bed but he has played well tonight. I don’t think he’s had a dangerous chance, though. Oilers have a lot of those guys.

  157. Hockeyman 99 says:

    good shift for pitlick

  158. BlacqueJacque says:

    Lowetide,

    Gotta feel for Lander.

  159. striatic says:

    RIP Randy Jones

  160. Hockeyman 99 says:

    striatic,

    I think thats the answer.

  161. BlacqueJacque says:

WTF was that?! Why would you do that, Jesse?

  162. crude says:

    BlacqueJacque,

And he was well off-side when he did it too.

  163. BlacqueJacque says:

Oh Arcobello, you’re not big, you’re not fast, you don’t have the hockey IQ or hands to compensate.

  164. crude says:

Ooof, Pitlick intimidated off the puck by Byf.

  165. BlacqueJacque says:

    crude,

Deep in the Jets zone after the missed outlet? That wasn’t Pitlick, that was Arco. Announcers keep confusing the two – Pitlick = 68, Arco = 62.

  166. crude says:

    BlacqueJacque,

    ah, thanks.

  167. B S says:

oh FFS, this better not be another “dive” like Omark was given last season he played where the other player’s stick was squarely wrapped around his ankle.

  168. Oilanderp says:

    So? Was it a dive?

  169. Kitchener says:

    Omark’s roster spot just evaporated.

  170. BlacqueJacque says:

When are these jerkoff announcers going to remind everyone that later the same season, the Lightning did the EXACT SAME MOVE as Omark.

  171. Cobbler says:

Wow, complained on the Oilers site about the lack of availability of out of markets games and actually got a reply from Marc Ciampa. He provided this back-door link for the rest of the pre-season games.

    http://oilers.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=92181

    Faith restored!

  172. B S says:

Haven’t liked Martindale this game, but he looked good there.

  173. BlacqueJacque says:

Grebs just can’t be leading candidate for #3LD at this point.

  174. Zelepukin says:

    Garbagekov.

    Arcobarely.

  175. B S says:

Joensu needs to bend his knees.

  176. Lowetide says:

I sure hope Anton Belov is good.

  177. crude says:

Poor old Linus the lightning rod.

Maybe I will call him “Lightening Rod” from now own.

  178. Bruce McCurdy says:

    Lowetide:
Pitlick shoots one step out of the bed but he has played well tonight. I don’t think he’s had a dangerous chance, though. Oilers have a lot of those guys.

Pitlick went to the Patrick O’Sullivan School of Shot Selection.

  179. Oilanderp says:

    Where’s my anxiety medication?

Why don’t you ask him why the Oilers pre season games aren’t on SNW.

All the Canucks games are televised in HD.

  181. Lowetide says:

Arcobello, Larsen, oy! If there was a punt option in this game I’d f5 it.

  182. Melman says:

Davidson and Arcobello not looking so ready for prime time

  183. jake70 says:

    Where’s my anxiety medication?

At a Rexall pharmacy near you. Katz has it all figured out. ;-)

  184. junglerot says:

    Lucic!

  185. BlacqueJacque says:

    Welp, that’s game right there.

If Arcobello, Davidson, and Larsen hadn’t already signed up for a season-long tour of America, they have just now.

Oilers show a pulse and Moroz scores on a nice Larsen feed.

    OMG LIFE! 3-2!

Larsen might have just extended his vacation in Edmonton!

  186. Lowetide says:

    Moroz. Of course!

  187. Lowetide says:

Larsen. I knew he was good (begins deleting).

  188. B S says:

God damn it, I’m never taking a shit again!

  189. Bruce McCurdy says:

Here’s an idea for you — announce the goal and show the goddamn pictures of the point scorers during the time out!

  190. Dead Cat Bounce says:

    That was all Yakupov.

  191. BlacqueJacque says:

    Lowetide:
Larsen. I knew he was good (begins deleting).

I like how Eakins nailed his game in the presser today or yesterday. “He can skate, he can shoot, he can pass, but you’ve got to defend at the NHL level.”

  192. jake70 says:

    Flashes of 1990…Jets going down..lol.

  193. Lowetide says:

Eakins pulls the goalie!!!!! Like this coach!

  194. BlacqueJacque says:

… why did Eakins call a time out? To give the Jets a rest after an icing?

  195. crude says:

I would a pounced on the tired Jets there. Put me in coach, as coach.

  196. B S says:

    Not getting this timeout decision.

  197. Ice Sage says:

Dead Cat Bounce: Why don’t you ask him why the Oilers pre season games aren’t on SNW.

Canucks are amazing, winning hearts and minds. Why don’t more teams emulate them???
    Oh, right

And Bachmann shows why, if you’re under 6 ft 2, forget a starting G spot. Looking forward to the Oilers icing a team with more than 5 NHL players

  198. B S says:

Thankfully Eakins already used his timeout.
