OILERS SIGN AULIE

The Edmonton Oilers have signed defenseman Keith Aulie. He’s probably in the mix for NHL employment at some point in 2014-15. Here’s a former member of Dallas Eakins’ Marlie mafia and he’ll help the kids in Oklahoma City when he’s not on recall to the big club.

blainer: Stauffer suggesting next years 1st rounder for Berglund. We are a playoff team if that happens.

The Oilers are not a playoff team until they get *at the very least* a league average top pairing defence pair.

Berglund is good and all, but when you’ve got a Marincin/Petry top pairing pencilled in, you’re not making the playoffs – no matter what collection of forwards you assemble.

    blainer,

He played on 16 minutes a game 2013-14

    Playoffs 14 minutes

    Minutes have been going downward

Does not sound like a #1

That both scares me and excites me.

    Funny fact:

Berglund’s worst corsi line mate was Perron from 11/12-12/13

I think they have Nikitin-Fayne in that slot.

Rishaug feels Oil will wait on a C. Prices getting too high now the big names have moved.

Also $750k/850k are the two years on Gazdic’s deal.

    I’d do that trade.

Signed for 3 years at a very reasonable 3.7M. Potentially a 50 point player, 30 points at the low end. Corgis look good. He’d presumably make the Oil a playoff team, making the first rounder not so tough to give up.

  10. FastOil says:

You would only trade next year’s first for a young (lots of years to control) current star. Especially a team like the Oilers who may very likely think they can play without 2 top 6 centres next year. There is too much talent in 2015 and the rule changes may increase everyone’s odds. Berglund doesn’t have enough offense for a first even if he is big. Trading or losing firsts is pretty risky and the Oilers have paid dearly for it, it’s part of the reason they are where they are.

  11. Woodguy says:

Berglund was a drag on corsi with Stewart and Perron.

With Taresenko and Schwartz he was a positive.

That’s in very similar minutes that he would see in Edmonton.

He may have improved, but his linemates look like they helped a ton.

I don’t see Nikitin-Fayne as an NHL average top pairing either.

    Neither do I.

The biggest thing that has happened to the Oilers is getting Ted Purcell in the trade for Gagner. Pouliot had a fine season and playoffs and is entering into what should be his prime as an NHL forward. Fayne will slot in hopefully as a steady minutes guy who can play pk, I don’t know about his offence, Aulie, big, decent, depth. Ted Purcell however is going to make a huge impact on this team, he is a super skilled player and is really going to add that scoring touch that Gags just didn’t have. Of all the deals this is the best one, hands down.
