Campbell Road

by Lowetide

Every fan base has its unique quality. Vancouver Canucks fans talk eras in terms of goaltenders, for guardiens are the most revered from each generation. It’s probably because the goalie had to stand on his head in order for the Canucks to win, but I digress. Oilers fans, despite the greatest run of elite offensive talent marbled through 40+ seasons, associate most closely with aggressive, physical players.

Goalies come and go in this town, it seems, or maybe the Grant Fuhr-Andy Moog split in the fanbase forever distanced fans from attachment to any goaltender coming down the pipe. I’d say that Jack Campbell’s performance on Tuesday night in Tampa Bay earned him a ton of fans, especially in light of his previous game and comments made in the aftermath. If Campbell leads the Oilers to Stanley, this town will remember him forever.

THE ATHLETIC!

WHAT TO EXPECT IN NOVEMBER

  • At home to: NAS, NJD, DAL (Expected 2-1-0) (Actual 1-2-0)
  • On the road to: WAS, TBY, CAR, FLA (Expected 1-2-1) (Actual 1-1-0)
  • At home to: LAK, VEG (Expected 1-0-1) (Actual 0-0-0)
  • On the road to: NJD, NYI, NYR (Expected (1-1-1) (Actual 0-0-0)
  • At home to: FLA (Expected 1-0-0) (Actual 0-0-0)
  • On the road to: CHI (Expected (1-0-0) (Actual 0-0-0)
  • November expected result: 7-4-3, 17 points in 14 games
  • Actual November results: 2-3-0, 4 points in 5 games
  • October results: 6-3-0, 12 points in 9 games
  • Oilers in 2022-23: 8-6-0, 16 points in 14 games

Edmonton currently sits in third place in the Pacific, on a 94-point pace. That won’t be good enough to make the playoffs , but you should see Calgary! Mr.Sutter’s team is No. 5 in the division with a 5-5-2 record. Calgary is on a trajectory to finish with 82 points on the year. It’s still early, folks. One thing we can say today: That was a big win in Tampa.

SUMMARY

  • Jack Campbell had his best game as an Oilers goalie. He stopped 12 of 13 HDSC, and improved his overall save percentage to .884 on the season. His record, 6-3-0, is the most impressive portion of the resume. He also stopped a losing streak, an important if unheralded part of a goaltender’s job.
  • Darnell Nurse had a shot, a blocked shot, and had a role in both GA. Seven defensive zone faceoffs Was unable to flick a loose puck past the Lightning forward at the line (Brayden Point) and Tampa Bay’s expert passing and a good shot by Brandon Hagel beat Campbell clean. He was also unable to impede Alex Killorn (who in fairness arrived at the exact time needed) and a deadly deflection on the second goal. Much will be written today about Nurse sitting at the end of the game (last shift ended with 1:33 to go, Kulak and Ceci took it from there) but Oilers fans should be encouraged that a second pair is emerging.
  • Cody Ceci sent the pass to Evander Kane that started the first GA, also had a hit and three blocked shots. Over four minutes on the PK, went 1-0 goals courtesy Foegele. Looked good with new partner Kulak, facing the Point line most often. Sometimes big tweaks happen and no one notices, but in this case Kulak-Ceci out late was notrworthy and successful.
  • Tyson Barrie had an assist, a penalty, a shot block and damn near shortened his career because an official decided the icing rule didn’t apply. That’s a dangerous play, and the refs almost blew it on a separate play involving Nurse. Those calls have to be made.
  • Brett Kulak had a hit, a takeaway and a blocked shot. His TK was the only one by a defenseman last night. He led the team in PK TOI (4:25) and appears to be moving up the depth chart.
  • Evan Bouchard had eight defensive zone faceoffs on the night. He had two shots, three blocked shots, one HDSC, the only one among Edmonton’s blue.
  • Ryan Murray had a hit, a giveaway and a blocked shot. All of his possession numbers were positive despite seven defensive zone faceoffs. 5-0 HDSC when he and Bouchard were on the ice.
  • Markus Niemelainen had four hits and played 7:22. Also got hit three times.
  • Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had an assist, was useful in all thee game states, takeaway, shot on goal. Oilers were 8-2 shots while he was on the ice five-on-five.
  • Connor McDavid had a goal, an assist, five shots, three HDSC, drew a penalty, took a ridiculous call, two takeaways, four hits. Also had five shots that missed the net or were blocked. There was a time when 97 would get less from a game like this one because the Lightning are constantly poking and prodding, making life miserable. McDavid now gives as good as he gets, so TB players are sometimes the frustrated ones. Saw the Hedman pairing and the Point line all night.
  • Jesse Puljujarvi had a fine night, with five shots, two HDSC, drew a penalty and had a takeaway. JP is more physical this year, looks stronger and is getting used to the aggression. He’s punishing people now, those hits linger for a time.
  • Warren Foegele had his best game as an Oiler. The goal was part of it, as was the late shot block off Hedman, but the overall quality of his play raised and stayed there consistently. Took a penalty, four hits, two takeaways, blocked shot.
  • Ryan McLeod had an assist, two shots, a hit, a HDSC on a good night. Lots of complaints about his offense, but McLeod doesn’t get huge minutes and has four points in 14 games. He contributes.
  • Kailer Yamamoto had five hits and a blocked shot. He spent 3:09 on the PK, only Zach Hyman played more among Edmonton’s forwards. Offense isn’t coming yet, but he did handle the puck a little more.
  • Evander Kane got hurt and it looked bad. He is on the mend based on his media today and that’s good news. I imagine we’ll see LTIR and the recall of Klim Kostin and Mattias Janmark. Organization will miss him in a big way while Kane is out.
  • Leon Draisaitl scored a goal, four shots, three HDSC, two shot blocks, won 14 of 21 faceoffs. He’s a major contributor every night, but I prefer him on the road. He lets a little mischief into his game in an away jersey.
  • Zach Hyman had an assist, three shots, one HDSC, two hits, takeaway and drew a penalty. The man has a grocery list of accomplishments every game. His 31 HDSC at five-on-five leads the league.
  • Derek Ryan had a hit and a takeaway in a useful evening of work. One HDSC. Took a penalty. Spent quality time on the PK.
  • Dylan Holloway had one shot, three hits, a giveaway (Oilers had just four) and played well in limited minutes.

“Evander Kane… hockey player. A man barely alive.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology.

We have the capability to build the world’s first bionic man.

Evander Kane will be that man. Better than he was before.

Better, stronger, faster.”

$6.25 million dollar man, but let’s not quibble over a paltry quarter million.

Summarizing!

As the Twine That Bulges noted below, Schaefer played the role of overtime hero in a 2-1 Seattle triumph. He also had a SH assist.

His 14 goals tie him with Bedard for 2nd in the Dub, one off the lead.

if he came back March the 9th against Boston there would be 17 games left in the season

maudite

Seeing as he really seemed to be playing somewhat hurt anyway:

There is something to be gained by actually being capable to run a full roster here.

He should be back with enough games left to get into rythmn. Early season was best time this could happen to anyone not named McDavid or drai. There even might be money at deadline if they work it properly, if I’m not mistaken.

geowal

Kane also was quite effective last year joining the team halfway through the season. Different situation of course, but some precedent too

Tarkus

Schaefer picks up a helper on a shortie as Seattle ties the game early in the 2nd.

OriginalPouzar

All indications are that Holloway will get the shot with Drai and Hyman. Reid W. suggested it this evening and Stauff’s projected lines:

Nuge/McDavid/Puljujarvi
Holloway/Drai/Hyman
Foegele/McLeod/Yamamoto
Janmark/Shore/Ryan
Kostin.

jp

It’s not at all what I predicted, but I’m happy to see Holloway get a shot with Draisaitl-Hyman. Lots of cover as well if things aren’t working.

Scungilli Slushy

Kane is such a great addition to the team because he brought a different personality type

He is a warrior with top 6 skill. He is not only willing to engage he initiates it

They have the elite skill – those guys are who they are, their calling card is the offense. Connor and Leon aren’t ‘tough’ but also won’t be intimidated and aren’t small

Beyond that there is a dynamic I think hinders them. So many good but mild mannered types. To me many come across as lacking confidence that pro athletes normally carry

These types aren’t into the physical side of the game even if they throw a few from time to time. I feel the confidence issues hinder their offensive output and perhaps hinder their defensive play

I’m not one for our guys blowing people up a lot, those days are gone. Niems now seems to be a target and can’t avoid the incoming. But I do expect checks finished- it’s key to disrupting the opponent’s flow. Fly bys and waving sticks lead to GA. I expect taking a player defensively not occupying empty ice flailing as the pucks sail past

All players have ups and downs. It’s more than that to me. It’s a roster balance I don’t like

Ive mentioned the D group before. It’s a terrible mix of basic good and some high skill types. Maybe Holland wants puck moving but these guys aren’t a fast accurate passing bunch overall. They are pretty meh to me as a unit

Holland also doesn’t seem to mind players with limited IQ. Almost like Chris Jones he wants athletes first, long and strong

There are too many guys for the and back that struggle to consistently execute basic hockey system plays, like plays at blue lines

That don’t back pressure properly, how many times do we see wide open guys? I. The high slot?

I believe healthy overall Connor and Leon can drag this team to the top.

But as it stands the best way to describe their team play is ‘hanging on’. Ahead or behind. They aren’t a team that seems in control of games ever – the odd period here and there. To me it’s the roster mix.

They beat Tampa, but if that was a 7 series I don’t think they would beat them. I think the Oilers are more skilled. But Tampa is a far smarter and more efficient team. Smart plays, excellent puck management, hard work, play hard most games. Vas doesn’t hurt

The Oilers don’t seem to take the next step. They are experienced, have a proper NHL roster, but can’t dial that last piece of disciplined play in. The hallmark of great teams

They sure talk about it a lot though. Wish they wouldn’t and just start doing it.

hunter1909

They never seem to take the “next step”.

As a team they like to play a lightning quick counterattack from behind the net to centre ice.

When it works the opposition is humiliated and destroyed but opponents can also target specific Oilers deficiencies and then the team grows weak in too much of a hurry.

Kane out of the lineup immediately means punks like that mouthguard chewer in Florida are guaranteed to show up like bullies and cowards always do when given weakness to exploit. It’s the nature of cowards to avoid personal stress as much as possible and Kane was a terrifying force who was able to keep order.

Expect teams playing the Oilers larger from here on in.

90s fan

I would argue they have taken several next steps over the years. What they haven’t taken, and I believe you are trying to explain is the final step of being the elite of the elite. Or maybe there are still a few steps to get there…

SayItAin'tSo, Gretz, SayItAin'tSo!

There’s too much stupid in this to even warrant a response but here we go.

Mcd and Leon aren’t “tough – yea hmm the guy that comes back after blowing his knee out to score 1.25 a game with sub par wingers isn’t “tough”. The other guy who played with a wrecked ankle for two series and scored 2ppg isn’t “tough”.

That’s some kinda BS right there and I dare you to find some else who’s tougher. Yea the two guys who get whacked, hacked and held more than anyone else in the league and still put up 100 point seasons and 50 goals aren’t “tough.” Quick get a coke machine who runs around, takes himself out of the play and can’t score to show these pansies what “tough” is all about.

My goodness this line of the thought is pathetic and old schools stupid.

Get out of here with this nonsense it’s offensive and dumb all at the same time.

Same group of guys who are pathetic wieners who sit back and don’t know how to play d took this team to the WCF, but it’s not good enough. Well ya know they didn’t knock off the Avs, but got past more rounds then the Leafs, Flames, panthers, Hurricanes and Kings but yup they don’t know shit and can’t play defense. All those other teams are “tough” and “know what it takes” but them Oilers? Fluke and nothing more, sissy boys the lot of em am I right?

Again get out of here with this bogus, wannabe analysis.

Good god it’s a marathon not a sprint, then two pansies you called out anre running laps around the league offensively but they arent “tough.”

This is the dumbest post I’ve seen in
months. LT should have flagged this crap for being stupid.

Tragikomix

This.

Scungilli Slushy

There is no team weirder than the Oilers. 2 players out with lacerations.

Not a medico, but have been concerned about Bro for two reasons. First, his self inflicted steak slash across the palm. Leadfarmer let us know the healing is fairly quick.

Having limited experience with issues with nerves, I wonder if it may leave sensitivity issues that linger as nerves heal slowly. Wouldn’t be ideal given the sport and wear and tear on hands

Secondly a lack of caution leading to self preservation. How many people get a cut like that in the kitchen? Nicks and finger end losses, what he did I’d wager is rare. Goes in line with getting blown up in the ice. Most players learn to avoid that.

Of course almost all players get smoked, just not two to three times a game. More like a season or career. Because they don’t want to get hurt.

OriginalPouzar

Given Holloway will be about apx 2 weeks with the slice, I’m thinking nerve damage isn’t a concern.

I’m going to start well short of suggesting a mistake in the kitchen (while distracted via a conversation) is presumptive of a behavioural trade that will limit an NHL hockey career.

€√¥£€^$

Just to confirm, so no one is confused, you meant Broberg, not Holloway.

Last edited 1 year ago by €√¥£€^$
OriginalPouzar

This is correct: Oooppps – and thanks.

Scungilli Slushy

Bro yes?

Maybe yes, maybe no

To me it seems people ignore patterns and similarities and repeatedly are surprised by the same results occurring

The best indicator of future injury is past injury. I believe that was Reynolds at Copper N Blue that looked into that years ago

Really it’s common sense. Nobody knows but Bro has been hurt so much already and seems to not have the self preservation skills on the ice, the best assumption is when will he be hurt again? Like Klef unfortunately

Scungilli Slushy

I’ll add that I have 4 kids. The youngest is an accident waiting to happen. He’s a jock, rugged, and doesn’t seem to be mindful of pain or potential injuries. He and his little group played schoolyard sports games the other kids wouldn’t, probably because they didn’t want to get hurt like my son and his buddies did, loving it

Since he was young I’ve had conversations with him about how his brain won’t fix itself like bones and muscles do, because he kept concussing himself

Accidents yes, but at some point you have to be more careful how you do things if your accidents are happening regularly at a higher rate than your peers

OriginalPouzar

Sure, fair, I guess.

I’m still going to stop well short of opining the Broberg’s kitchen incident is a sign of a behavioural issue that will put a dagger in his NHL career.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve opined about his injury history being a concern, and it remains a concern, I’m simply not connecting a kitchen incident with self-preservation and behaviour issues.

geowal

When I was at U of A, I was sitting in my living room when my downstairs neighbour came up and exclaimed “do you have a first aid kit? My roommate just cut his wrist!” And she went downstairs.
So I dig out this 1960s looking kit I’d seen in the broom closet and take it down. She is (rather impressively) on the phone with 911 while also holding a cloth to this dude’s wrist, whose lying on the ground, shaking. Turns out he’s cut his wrist washing dishes, fainted at the site of his own blood, and in doing so induced a seizure. No real point here, other than it being a rather wild example of a guy hurting himself rather badly in the kitchen. And he was fine.

Nuge/McDavid/Puljujarvi

Holloway/Drai/Hyman

Janmark/McLeod/Yamamoto

Kostin/Ryan/Foegele

I could see Janmark elevated above Holloway as well – coaches may remain hesitant for the tougher minutes.

Could be Hamblin over Kostin but Kostin is actually a decent style comparable to Kane – including in their penchant for taking minor penalties, lol…..

In fact, I could make arguments for all of those 3 lefts wingers in each of the 3 spots.

Yes, these are the two that I mentioned last night (and this morning). Janmark is a no-brainder call up. He’s 100% an NHL player (even 3rd liner) that was only in the AHL because of cap issues. Now that he’s had a couple of weeks of games in the AHL (after being out for almost a month due to immigration issues), he’s fully up to speed and his play in the AHL shows that he’s an NHL player.

Kostin makes sense as well. I think he’s more impactful than his straight numbers in the AHL show (similar to both Yamamoto and Holloway in the past). He’s big, fast, aggressive with some skill and smarts with the puck. He’s actually a decent skill-set replacement for Kane. Kostin has shown he can be a tire fire without the puck and from the red-line back – his big minus is really due to one game at -4 (and one weekend at -6). He’s been much better in that regard in recent weeks but he’ll need to continue to show commitment and effort in that area if he’s going to stay on the roster and in the lineup.

Oh ya, he also takes minor penalties nightly similar to Kane (has been better recently but its a thing).

Kert

How has Janmark’s usage been in Bakersfield? Was he playing with the top offensive players, 20 min a night including some PP time? Or was it more like we’d expect in the NHL, 14 min a night away from the difference makers with maybe some PK duty?

It was only 4 games, so it doesn’t mean much either way, I’m just curious.

OriginalPouzar

Janmark has been playing top line LW with Hamblin the last few games (Philp was elevated to 1RW). Of course, its really more of a “top 6 or top 9” than a 1st, 2nd, 3rd line – they don’t load up the top line. PP2 for Janmark and a PK role but not a ton of K minutes, so many forwards get PK time.

He hasn’t been dazzling out there but you can tell he is a vet of a higher level – just calm, always makes the right play, almost no mistakes, etc.

Scungilli Slushy

Unless Kostin has reinvented himself he won’t get many games. Nothing matters except GA at this point

Holloway deserves the mistake riddled reps at the NHL level

Although if he doesn’t get it together soon AHL and a ton of time practising his execution is more beneficial

OriginalPouzar

I wouldn’t say he’s reinvented himself but he has been a MUCH better 2-way player the last few weeks – good enough to earn the call-up given his offensive skillset and what the team is losing in Kane.

Whaler Slamamoto

I’ve been venting about Jesse’s lack of physical play for years. He looks to be about 60% of the way there so I’ll leave it alone now.

My new target is Ryan McLeod. He has so many opportunities for big hits on the forecheck. He also has the legs to get back quickly and still be helpful if the puck isn’t turned over. He could use a little 80 grit in his game and it would help his entire line. Even Nuge is more physical than him now. Annoying to play against is a great attribute for a 3C.

Really enjoyed the win last night. It felt like a lot was working against them and that the wheels were about to come off for the 3rd period. Thank you Jack and R. Murray.

Reja

Will the loss of Kane affect the physicality and passion of Jesse moving forward??

OriginalPouzar

I have also been frustrated in the moment when McLeod has turned away from the opportunity to get a solid bang in but, to be honest, he’s simply never going to be that player and, frankly, many on the team aren’t – the likes of McDavid, Nuge, Ryan, Shore, Leon, ect. all skate away from those opportunities, consistently – I think the only goes that consistently finish that check are Kane, Hyman and Foegele.

I think McLeod has come a long ways in his physicality where he now will go to some hard areas and he’ll use his body in a true board battle and gain position – he wouldn’t do that 18 months ago.

Redbird62

Jesse is matching Kane hit for hit this season. Both are at just over 11 per 60. Shore is just under 10 per 60 so he is not passing up hits either. Yamamoto is actually out hitting Hyman per 60 at a round 5 vs 4. Leon has 3 hits all year and his never done much hitting.

Whaler Slamamoto

Yeah he could just add some extra grind to his game. Doesn’t have to be the big neimo hits. Just solid hits that delay that d man from getting to his proper position by a few seconds. Snowball effect. Tires the opposition. Pick up some retaliation calls, d man makes his next decision a little quicker and poorer etc.

Plus with those teeth, you MUST have some grit or why rock the look??!

Bank Shot

Time to throw a first rounder + at the Sharks for a salary retained Timo Meier.

Turns out Evander’s wrist was extra sore for an additional month. Don’t worry. He’ll manage to be healthy for game one of the playoffs.

Kane and Meier probably need to Duke it out a few times first, then it probably still destroys the room bringing him in…

Bank Shot

Meier was apparently one of the only ones Kane was close with.

OriginalPouzar

So, what do you do in February/March when Kane is to be activated?

Edit: Sorry, missed the “scheming” portion of the post.

Last edited 1 year ago by OriginalPouzar
Scungilli Slushy

What is Meier adding? More goals on RW?

To me they need more players that are consistent game in and out and don’t constantly screw up

Strudy said a while back on the radio some guys get it, some never get it

They are scoring enough, the problem is defending. And if they defended as a team better they’d score even more

OriginalPouzar

Well, losing Kane means less goalscoring for the team (likely) and perhaps better defending given Kane does make many neutral zone mistakes and takes quite a few penalties (although Kostin could make up for that easily…..).

brobergstan

kane reported to miss 3-4 months according to theathletic.

Reja

A fresh Kane similar to last year will be a Godsend come playoff time. I believe one of the 3M’s will be traded for some much needed turbulence in the meantime.

Durag

Kane is out 3-4 months. Given the severity and nature of the injury, I wonder if he’s ever going to be the same player again. Awful, awful stuff.

jp

That’s tough. Hopefully he makes a full recovery and is back to 100% by playoffs (6 months away).

jtblack

valid concerns for sure, but also too soon to guess ….

apparently Mikheyev suffered a similiar injury in Toronto last year ..

jp

Janmark and Kostin the recalls, as LT and OP speculated.

Glad Holland didn’t trade away a $3M forward so the team could run a 23-man roster for one month.

cowboy bill

They’ll be able to go with that 23 man roster . I would suspect they call up Broberg when he’s ready .

Yes but likely back for this weekend’s games – hand slice.

Too many Oilers assets getting sliced right now…..

Munny 2.0

Bob doesn’t think Benson can be one of the Kane replacements. Apparently the Oilers were testing his explosiveness prior to the Capitals game and Bob thinks he’s not there yet and might need some minors time to get his legs fully back.

there is a joke in here somewhere ….

Munny 2.0

leadfarmer

Darnell Nurse having a role in the GA is a very common refrain these days. We need to limit his minutes to 20 a game

Would a majority vote of the players be an acceptable response rather than a unilateral ruling by the Nanny State intended to lessen lawsuit liability?

Munny 2.0

Do the players own the product?

You’re okay if every employee in your workplace votes out the safety rules you have instituted?

Kert

Yah, if it were up to the players, we’d still have some players without helmets, let alone visors.
I wonder if there’s a different solution out there, like a cut resistant flexible sleeve under the glove and elbow pad. It wouldn’t protect Lemieux from Graves in ’92 but would make a difference for Kane. The players wouldn’t lose the wrist mobility, like they do with the long gloves…
Just thinking with the improved materials available today, there must be something that’d protect wrists from cuts without giving up mobility.

Bag of Pucks

Btw there’s a school of thought that bubble wrapping human beings to avoid every conceivable negative outcome actually lessens our risk awareness, a core survival trait that serves us well particularly for new and emergent threads. Complacency is not good for the human species.

hunter1909

Complacency is a natural byproduct of success.

Back in the day before I had to shave I was living in a house full of other bachelors and when we discovered a mouse decided not to kill it. Not only did that mouse stick around but soon his pals started turning up. They kept getting bolder and bolder.

It came to a head one night when one of us turned on the kitchen light only to see a mouse sitting in the middle of the floor. Man looked at mouse until … the mouse, staring my pal in the eyes started squeaking at him.

That’s what you call complacency.

Isn’t the current cap and escrow system designed expressly to give players at the very least, the perception of partial ownership of the product?

I’m ok with a majority assuming more risk provided they’re willing to assume the corresponding liability. Players likely see the Kane injury for what it is, an outlier.

The Nanny State is predicated on the idea that all possibilities of death must be eliminated. How’s that working out? Last I checked, we’re all still dying eventually.

Munny 2.0

Isn’t the current cap and escrow system designed expressly to give players at the very least, the perception of partial ownership of the product?

No, it is designed to give them a share of revenue that they can, through collective bargaining, demand.

As far as “perception of ownership” goes, this is a common tactic deployed by business. For example, one might allow managers to have a say in decision-making so they can have ownership of the final outcome. That does not give those employees de facto partial ownership of the business. Nor does profit-sharing, another common strategy.

Why do you keep bringing a political slant to this, after all our host’s admonishments this week, btw?

Last edited 1 year ago by Munny 2.0
Bag of Pucks

I wasn’t aware I was bringing a ‘political’ pov to this. It seems a player rights issue and that seems germane to a hockey board.

Possibly this is due to what Orwell said that every discussion can ultimately be reduced to a polticial pov?

FWIW you’re the one who first expanded the scope of the post to include overall employee rights in the workplace.

Eventually dying of old age isn’t as strong of an argument against wearing protective sports gear as you think it is.

Bag of Pucks

Probably not but it is pithy and some days I’m full of pith and vinegar.

Kert

For the record, I don’t mind your reference to “Nanny State”. I can’t image two words that’d more clearly communicate your stance on mandating more protection for the players.

To get this conversation back on track. I was just hoping for an optional solution to exist. Some kind of cut-proof wrist guard for the players who want it. Maybe Kane would want something after this injury, maybe not. It’s like Pronger and Crosby using those giant Reebok helmets or whatever they were. Got a history of concussions? Put this tank on your head if you want.

I think still Bryan Berard prefers no visors, saying “growing up playing on the pond, you didn’t even wear a helmet, you just learned to keep your stick down.”. I think that can be true, while making visors mandatory still being the correct decision.

Gerta Rauss

The diving community has diving suits manufactured with wire mesh similar to a chain mail type of product to provide some protection against sharks.

I’m sure this product could be retrofitted for hockey – I’m surprised there isn’t a product available

Gerta Rauss

That scene from the movie is EXACTLY why I came up with the handle

I love that movie

Bag of Pucks

Agreed. What often gets overlooked when there’s a kneejerk reaction to something like this is that players have negotiated performance bonuses based on current equipment measures. If something is foisted on them that they feel impedes their ability to achieve these bonuses, they’ll justifiably balk.

It’s personally crazy to me that they play with these glorified oven mitts now, but that’s the norm and they do enhance the skill. If there is a solution, it would have to be very noninvasive.

Prairie_Sentinel

I know it’s not the same, but Hockey Canada is mandating full cages for Jr A players in Canada as of Jan. 1/23. Too many players not wearing their mouth guards properly, insurance claims for teeth damage too high…..mandate incoming.

I could see some kind of lacrosse-style slash guard being an option.

Bag of Pucks

I wonder about this every time I watch Leon play. If he won’t keep his damn mouth guard in when he dangles, why should the Oil be on the hook for dental bills if he takes one in the chops?

If you would just bother to read instead of always being in a hurry for the scoop you might find that this has already been posted…….

He constantly has to show the class he’s incapable of growth.

Munny 2.0

HH has actually been pretty good the last two days. Sorry, but credit where credit is due.

meanashell11

I just assumed he was in a time out!

DevilsLettuce

Wasn’t aware a 2 day silencing makes up for a 10 year whine, but some are more forgiving then others. Good on ya.

Munny 2.0

Is anyone considering the difficulties presented if Kane doesn’t go on LTIR?

jp

No, there’s basically zero chance they don’t give the guy at least a couple of weeks to heal up, is there?

Munny 2.0

I’d say that depends on what the injury is and no one is saying. I’m not a doctor and unfortunately didn’t stay in a Holiday Inn last night (knew I should have, dammit), but let’s say the repair is limited to the artery, no tendon or nerve damage…

Would that need protecting from game play till Dec 3rd?

jp

It’s possible I guess. Just seems extremely unlikely that he’d need notably less time than that. Even if it’s in the ball park of 10 games/24 days LTIR is an easy call IMO.

€√¥£€^$

That was a considerable amount of blood, at minimum that required vascular surgery. There is no way he is back within 4 weeks, so he out for a minimum of 12 games, but I expect 6-8 weeks, so his absence probably lands between 20-30 games.

I am not aware of similar injuries in the NHL, so that could serve as a guideline, if there is an example. Actually I found some here:

https://theathletic.com/1701417/2020/03/26/amazing-it-doesnt-happen-more-often-how-nhl-players-deal-with-skate-cuts-columbus-blue-jackets/?amp=1

Munny 2.0

I’m not saying you’re wrong. I’m saying you don’t know… right now, none of us knows and we’re all making assumptions based on minimal info and sideline speculation outside of our expertise.

Bank Shot

Don’t need to be an expert to know that stiches take like two weeks to heal. 2-3 weeks seems pretty best case to me. LTIR is minimum 3.5 weeks. Seems like a no brainer to use it here rather than trying to play with 11 forwards on the roster for the next month.

leadfarmer

If you have stitches in for 3 weeks what the hell are you stitching.

Bank Shot

Two weeks for stiches to heal.

A deep cut on a joint is going to be two weeks even if everything heals well.

With that said I’m pretty confident 2-3 weeks is the best case.

Munny 2.0

Yes, and if it is two weeks, he cannot go on LTIR, which brings us back to my original comment.

Bank Shot

If Kane is back in two weeks he is absolutely not 100% healed.

The NHL would allow Kane to go on LTIR even if he technically might be ready to come back after 2-3 weeks.

I’ve never seen anyone come back to play in 2 weeks after wrist surgery so it seems a pretty unlikely outcome.

At this point I think it makes a lot of sense to give Kane an extra 2-4 games off to fully recover (assuming its a best case scenario) and use LTIR to allow the Oilers to carry at least 12 forwards over the next stretch of games.

leadfarmer

That’s a very very long time for a clean laceration even if it involves the artery

€√¥£€^$

I understand you have a medical background, so the healing process is one aspect, which you would have a great understanding of, but we are talking about an NHL-level hockey player who puts his body (and this particular area) through much different stressors than the average Joe. And then we are talking about being in game shape after healing sufficiently to endure the rigours of NHL game play.

But my words are all just speculation, based on limited information. We now have more info and he is going to be away anywhere from 25-45 games, potentially.

I will refrain from speculation in the future.

Nice to see Foegele and Murray with big plays in this win after some disappointing games recently. Let’s hope they can keep contributing.

meanashell11

No, I live in Miami so will go to the Florida game on the weekend. You guys will scream when I show you the price of tickets!

Munny 2.0

Ryan Murray had a hit, a giveaway and a blocked shot. All of his possession numbers were positive despite seven defensive zone faceoffs. 5-0 HDSC when he and Bouchard were on the ice.

I didn’t get to watch the game, as nhl66 doesn’t have their shit completely figured out yet, but did see the highlights. I was surprised, LT, that Murray saving a goal did not make it into your synopsis. …Was kind of important.

Heal well and quickly, Evander Kane. The almost instant pool of blood on the ice made me sick. Sometimes I forget what a dangerous sport we watch and critique. And play. The slew foot by itself could have caused numerous life-changing injuries. And then the slice.

But….what a great night of positive response by the team. To the incident and to the circumstances of b2b against the Lightning. The best league in the world, the best players, the grind of the 82 game qualifying season. And a fabulous night of hockey.

cowboy bill

First off, a shout out to Evander Kane, speedy recovery you’re the man and you will be difficult to replace, not only that, but it will also be interesting to see how they deal with it.
Secondly, I don’t think people are talking enough about Ryan Murray’s save on the goal line in a crucial point in the game. If that had gone into the net the final result of the game might have been very different. Thirdly, an atta boy to Warren Foegele , a fine soldier who not only scored a shorty, but was terrific on the PK keeping Tampa off the score board on their PP’s, along with his partner in crime Ryan MacLeod. To save the best for last, Jack Campbell’s best performance as an Oiler. He and Skinner will provide the Oilers with quality goaltending to rival the old tandem of Fuhr & Moog. Enough said, have a great day gang.

Foegele set the tone on the first shift when he looked like Raffi Torres going at the Lightning D like a madman.

GB&Q

Liked Jesse’s game, too. Some good chances to score, and he disrupted a few dangerous opposition passes as well.

cowboy bill

He might need to get even more shots on goal, five isn’t enough. Maybe he needs three times that amount, and he might get one… someday………maybe…

jp

Yeah that was the best of Jesse and the worst of Jesse.

He had a really strong game and showed his worth even if he didn’t score.

The flip side is the quality of chances he had without scoring pretty much epitomized what his critics are seeing.

I’m more on the former side. Sure would have been nice for him to post some offense (and he will), but that was a very strong game on both sides of the puck. He most definitely made a legitimate contribution to the game last night.

Bruce McCurdy

Not scoring on Andrei Vasilevskiy shouldn’t be an indictment.

Munny 2.0

Lol… so you would have been okay with the Oilers getting shut out last night?

jp

I didn’t think that was an indictment.

The quality of chances that he got last night stuck out to me though. And the guy has been in quite the extended offensive slump, since last Christmas really.

Since then his line reads: 67GP 7-11-18 (including playoffs). That’s with more than half his TOI with McDavid.

Even Foegele (78GP 8-10-18) has matched that output, and obviously without the same McDavid/Draisaitl TOI.

Anyway, Puljujarvi had a great game last night. Hopefully that continues. He’ll certainly get lots of prime opportunities going forward with Kane out.

It was in indictment by the Cowboy though – we know very well his thoughts on Jesse (which he is entitled to).

I agree with all of his comments in the opening post (on Murray, Foegele, Campbell) and I also agree with the poster that through Jesse’s name in – he was highly effective last night, in my opinion. Some good shots on net, no goals – yup, again. At least last night they were legit good shots (in my opinion) and at least there are shot – Yamamoto, who was a bit stronger last night, remains under a shot per game at 5 on 5 – really?

Ryan Murray dug into his inner “I will not ride a bus to away games”……

OriginalPouzar

That was a hell of a play by Murray – the goal wouldn’t have counted, it was definitely offside, but it was still a great play.

Bag of Pucks

I’m going to go glass half full with the Kane injury.

If Evander is out for an extended period, it’s a chance for an older player to get less wear on the tires in the regular season and arrive fresher for the playoffs.

More importantly, it will force the team to play better team defence now AND it’s more at bats for players like Holloway, McLeod, Jesse, Yamo, etc. If one or more of these players can emerge as a consistent offensive producer, then the team is that much stronger depth wise when Kane returns.

Personally, as a guitar player, seeing an injury like Kane’s is my worst nightmare. Really hope he’s ok and has a full recovery.

And if it’s not a fake, his ex has revealed herself for what she truly is and that’s better than censorship imo.

dustrock

Yeah, depends on tendon damage for Evander, let’s hope it was a clean cut and he’ll be fine. Maybe we can do a Kooch and get him back for the playoff run.

And that was certainly a horrific post by Anna Kane last night, Sweet Zombie Jesus.

Being beautiful on the outside opens so many doors in our superficial culture that it’s hard to manufacture empathy for those Marilyn Manson dubbed ‘The Beautiful People.’

BUT I can only imagine the sense of entitlement that someone like Kane’s ex has marinated in her entire life.

My son recently married a very pretty young woman and it’s been interesting to watch her assimilation into our family culture. I would gauge her sense of entitlement as relatively modest and she’s got a good heart. But we’re not a family that praises good intentions with no corresponding follow through. Actions not words is a core mantra for us. My daughter-in-law is quickly adjusting to that standard but I can tell it’s not always easy when people have been falling over themselves to do things for her the entirety of her life.

The trial by Twitter amateur lawyer crowd is having a tough day interpreting the totally bananas reaction from Kane’s ex-wife. Whoops; it turns out the institution built over hundreds of years by people dedicated to their craft seems to have gotten it right over the platform made for (and now owned) by the egomaniacal for the express purpose of peddling falsities, breeding addiction, and collecting advertising money.

Nurse has been a negative CF%rel & negative FF%rel every year of his career.

What I don’t know is if that metric means 2 quacks over a ducks back for a D man?

Asking for a friend.

ArmchairGM

It doesn’t take QoC into account. Like many things, it’s only useful if used in context.

jp

It’s also totally incorrect. Where are you getting the numbers (all situations?).

At 5v5 he’s had a positive CF%rel 4 of the last 4 years.
FF%rel 3 of 3.
SF% 4 of 4
GF% had dipped negative this year and last, but positive for 4 years before that
xGF% positive 3 years before this one
SCF% 4 of 4
HDCF% 4 of 4

If you’re looking at all situations, that just means Nurse PKs way more than he plays on the PP, which would be true.

jtblack
jp

Thanks. It looks yours were all situations numbers (there’s a tab for 5v5 there you can click).

31saves

Context is King:

Powerplay minutes:

  • 2017-18: 40:22
  • 2018-19: 141:16
  • 2019-20: 76:13
  • 2020-21: 77:09
  • 2021-22: 82:28
  • 2022-23: 12:49

Penalty Kill minutes:

  • 2017-18: 183:42
  • 2018-19: 158:07
  • 2019-20: 147:33
  • 2020-21: 136:55
  • 2021-22: 196:54
  • 2022-23: 40:19

Nurse has played more time on the penalty kill than the powerplay every year of his career. Sometimes that imbalance has been pretty close (his 3rd/4th year in 2017-18, Nurse was given some serious powerplay time, so only 17 minutes more on the PK). On the other hand, last year he played 180 more minutes killing penalties than shooting on the powerplay.

Add in the fact that Nurse faced the toughest QOC in the entire NHL last year, and I would expect his all situations REL stats to look poorly. Nurse is the umbrella that provides vital protection and shelter to the other D-men, which of course deflates his stats and inflates the others.

jp

I’ll drop my guess at the Thursday lines here as well.

Nuge-McDavid-Puljujarvi

Klim Kostin  in place of Holloway

cowboy bill

Ok, I have to say Janmark will most likely fill in for Kane. But who knows? We’ll see and it would be nice to see Hamblin for sure.

Optimism is like heroin

I am hoping Holloway gets the Kane minutes to keep Hyman on the right side or Bourgault comes up to try top 9 for a cup of coffee. No point Janmark in a top 6 role if you can use players that your developing to play in those spots.

jp

Yeah Holloway or Bourgault with Draisaitl would be fun to see. I don’t guess we’ll see Bourgault yet, but Holloway could definitely get the bump to replace Kane.

Agree on Janmark. He’s been around long enough that we can fairly safely say he’s not a ‘top 6’ player. That’s why I moved Yamamoto back up there, though I can see the the argument for Holloway too.

jp

a giveaway (Oilers had just four) and played well in limited minutes.

They’ve really cleaned that up in recent games (though part may also be opponent or local scorer).

Last 6 games:
CGY 12-12 (Oil-Flames)
NSH 16-10
NJD 21-17
DAL 7-4
WSH 7-9
TBY 4-12

18 giveaways in the last 3 games is very solid (though its still not clear how correlated this stat is to winning).

Munny 2.0

I think we have to go per-60 to mitigate possession as the dominant variable. Well and pray local scorers have it right.

jp

Yes, would be nice to have the possession time and a rate stat, though of course we don’t information available.

I do think we can safely say there’s a real difference in how the team managed the puck across 3 game segments where they go from 49 to 18 giveaways though.

Munny 2.0

Agreed. I was solely addressing your final parentheses.

jp

Ah, right. Yes, to even do a proper correlation you’d want more information than we have.

Munny 2.0

Thinking about it, probably need touches too. Or moreso.

YYCOil

When Koskinen first came over I remember him saying in the KHL – he would play 4 games than the other goalie would play four games. He like that,as it helped him prepare, rest and focus for his games.

Do the Oilers have a plan that the goalies know that would mirror this approach? Maybe Campbell for 4 and Skinner of 2 – adjusting for back to back games.

31saves

The most important thing I have heard from goalies at every level, is the ability to prepare. Determining a set schedule in advance, like naming the starters for each November game by October 31st, is a huge help. If you know you have 5 days before your next scheduled start, you train differently, practice differently, study differently. Likewise, if you know you play 4 games in 6 days, you adjust to the schedule.

Klefbom talked about this in a different way. He said that he knew how to play 30 minutes in a night, and how to play 15 minutes in a night. You adjust a bit in preparation, but when you’re on the ice you adjust your play to match how much energy you have and need. Klef said that it was significantly tougher to play a game expecting to play 15 minutes, but then an injury or a slump or something forces you to play much more, it messes with your preparation.

brobergstan

I felt sickened to see some fans of other teams cheering the injury to kane, as humans we can all be better.

I will note that Murray looked FAR better than he had in any earlier games and he really seemed to elevate as the game went on.

Jesse puljujarvi… right now he couldnt score if he had 500 bucks and was walking into a brothel. But the guy just knows how to play with Mcd. His short passes, drops, and ability to find the soft ice so mcd can find him again is just so tasty to watch. If he starts to finish again watch out. He created more in 1 game than yamamoto did in his whole stint with mcdavid.

also thought the 3rd line of foegele-mcleod-yammo showed some real chemistry and hard work. encouraging to see.

excited to see janmark and kostin come up soon… just waiting on the annoucnement.

kostin is stylistically very similar to kane, big body, skates well, nice shot, a bit iffy in his own zone, and takes iffy minor penaltys. sounds familiar eh?

Reja

I’ve been beating the play Yamo lower in the batting order drum for over a year now. Yamo will see more fresh air playing on the 3rd line. He’s completely stifled when he’s playing against the oppositions middle of the batting order players.

brobergstan

Over the last 3 years yammo has a goal for % of 31.5 when not playing alongside mcd or drat.

With mcd. 51 GF%, 57 XGF%
With drat. 56GF%. 43 XGF%
Without mcd or drat. 31 GF%, 48XGF%

historically he has been impossible to play 5v5 without mcd or drat carrying him.

I think people can use both terms, hunter, for the sake of variety in their language. And of course for levity too. I know I do. Not to mention, everyone has their own personal lingo, usually derived from their environment. If they didn’t, we couldn’t write distinctive dialogue in our stories.

That’s really interesting. I’d be very curious as what experiences have created that language association for you.

I equate the word ‘human’ with humanity which gives me a positive association (ie a common humanity). Whereas ‘people’ conveys as a more generic term to me that can be more tribal in its usage (e.g. Don Cherry’s “these people”).

Really speaks to how much language perception is influenced by our personal experiences and cultural biases. It’s why mediums like this board are fun but ultimately imperfect because of the reliance on imprecise language and the loss of nonverbal cues.

hunter1909

I would try to answer that for you, but it’s too close to politics for Lowetide’s long suffering thought police.

Only today I was wondering whether or not I should try to stop worrying about politics at all.

Optimism is like heroin

Oilers fans should be encouraged that a second pair is emerging”

Not sure I can agree with this statement when it robbed the top pair and you see Nurse Barrie were on the ice for both goals against.

brobergstan

i will be interested to see what the d pairings are against carolina and how they fare.

Nurse-Barrie has been acceptable in the past, however nurse tends to play with multiple partners per game due to his rediculous minutes and shift lengths.

I felt he freelanced a little too much alst night and chased the puck but he did have some very nice moments and overall this yr his play has been everything you could ask for.

Optimism is like heroin

Argh spent time digging up stats but got caught in moderation. I am not down on Nurse at all but Bouchard has superior stats with Nurse over Barrie.

31saves

The biggest problem is that Bouchard looks like he needs a reset more than a bump up the lineup. He might do better with a week or two facing weaker competition with a few less minutes to start connecting on those passes, finishing his rushes and getting shots through. His confidence seems super low and a reset would likely be best for him before placing him on the top line.

Optimism is like heroin

Ahhhh, I am a night shift fool so almost never get to watch the games, instead I listen and look at the stats. To show the difference in eye vs stats I would like to reference the Journals counting of grade a chances for and against. Bouchard has made contributions 26 times vs Barrie at only 10 and Bouchard has made .4 mistakes less than Barrie per game.

Bruce McCurdy

Thanks for reading!
As one of the contributors to our Grade A shots analysis, my persistent observation of Barrie is he excels at making secondary or “minor” contributions, which we used to track. The play goes through his stick a lot & he is great at moving it to the open man in best position & making it look routine. He is very sly & subtle.

Optimism is like heroin

Thank you for some more information from someone who watches but counts stats as well. May I ask your thoughts about who might best help the Oil win while paired with Nurse if Ceci plays on the second pair?

brobergstan

Nurse barrie since 2021. 56GF%, 46XGF% PDO 1.027.
Nurse bouche since 2021. 44GF, 57XGF% PDO 0.968

brobergstan

these are 5v5 numbers

jp

spent time digging up stats but got caught in moderation

Looking just at this season, Nurse with:
Ceci – 157min 48.5%SH 38.5%GF 49.3%HDCF
Barrie 46min 57.7%SH 66.7%GF 42.9%HDCF (9-12)
Bouch 37min 61.1%SH 50.0%GF 87.5%HDCF (7-1)

By number Nurse has been better with both Barrie and Bouchard this season than Ceci. Of course QoC makes those comparisons difficult.

Optimism is like heroin

Tough to say anything on qoc, I can’t find anything for this year yet. Just a bit of context, Barrie has his stat line while playing 114 min with either Connor or Leon and 76 min away from both. Bouchard played 109 min w the dynamic duo but 92 min away.

jp

Nurse with the RD last season:
Ceci – 501min 52.5%SH 55.6%GF 61.5%HDCF
Barrie 306min 47.0%SH 53.9%GF 51.7%HDCF
Bouch 524min 55.9%SH 42.5%GF 52.1%HDCF

Things shined last season with Ceci. More impressive since QoC was making the road more difficult for them. On the flip side, there’s some major pre/post Woodcroft bias in these numbers.

jp

Nurse with these RD from 20-21 (pre-Ceci):
Barrie 732min 50.2%SH 58.3%GF 45.4%HDCF
Bouch 24min 48.7%SH 60.0%GF 60.0%HDCF (not worth typing cause the sample is so small, though all but the Ceci number from the current seasons fits that bill too..)

Poor underlying numbers with Barrie, but again the GF% is strong.

jp

Totals across the last 3 seasons for Nurse with the Oilers current RD:

Ceci – 658min 51.6%SH 51.7%GF 58.2%HDCF
Barrie 1085min 49.6%SH 57.8%GF 47.1%HDCF
Bouch 584min 55.8%SH 44.7%GF 53.7%HDCF

We know the Ceci minutes were with heavy lifting, so solid numbers for sure.

With Barrie, ‘advanced stats’ tell us it won’t work, but it has produced GF% results 3 of 3 years.

Opposite with Bouchard, under performing what should be something beautiful.

Personally, I have to conclude that Barrie is at least a legitimate/reasonable option as Nurse’s partner since they’ve been able to consistently outscore. But that’s JMO, and I can understand if folks are more swayed by the fancies (I would be too if there weren’t multiple years going into them).

Optimism is like heroin

Pulling fancies from a rookie year vs a veteran in his prime is a bit misleading IMO. I am just looking at this year

jp

As you like. I pulled the numbers mostly to see what Nurse-Barrie had done in the past, and included Bouchard/Ceci as the obviously comparison points. IMO the samples from this season only are so small they’re (basically) meaningless.

Optimism is like heroin

I agree previous experience plays a part in analysis. It’s the coaches job to line up the best roster he can on any given night. How can he not focus on recent play over previous years?

jp

Minor point on possible call-ups. Waivers could be a consideration for Kostin potentially. Affects Janmark too, but he’ll be an Oiler as long as Cap allows.

Kostin cleared waivers initially on Oct 8th, so he’d need to clear again if/when he returned to Bakersfield. Hamblin would not need to clear since he’s not waivers eligible yet.

It likely won’t affect things, but if the team is on the fence on who to call up, or plans to have a look a more than one guy, (Janmark aside) then the waivers thing could favor Hamblin.

rich tm

You have to clear coming up too? Thought you only had to clear to be sent down.

jp

No you do not, I’m just thinking about the next transaction down. If they have Kostin as clearly the next best option then he’ll come up.

If they aren’t at all sure, or wanted to have a look at a couple of guys in the next few weeks, then him having to clear to go back down could have an effect.

OriginalPouzar

Re-entry waivers was abolished years ago – no longer a thing.

Heal fast Evander! Opportunity likely knocks for a couple of players from Bakersfield. Will they seize the day????

I like how both “noteworthy” and “not worthy” can skate right through a spell checker and deliver exactly opposite meanings on the other side.

Cody Ceci is an unsung hero night after night.

Ceci is reminding me a bit of Charlie Huddy. Maybe it his skating style? I am liking his all-around skill, quiet tenacity and his well-timed jumps up the ice.

Campbell was outstanding especially the eagle vision seeing through screeens in front of the net. Oilers D need to do a better job of boxing players out. Let’s face it we are going nowhere without the good Campbell the battler Campbell the Campbell who finds a way to get a W. If Edmonton is going to seriously make a run it’s going to be through Campbell.

There are TWO LIGHTS..er…GOALTENDERS! Both are required to get anywhere.

I think there was a ‘Cujo’ era in Oilers lore? Those improbably 7th game performances of the late millennium backing a ragtag group of skaters.

This team, though? A box of chocolates !?!

There may have been a Cujo era but Rolie is the goalie remembered best around here.

Cujo and Fuhr were 100% the best goalies the Oilers have ever had, especially when compared to the competition.

Fuhr was perennially named as one of the top Goalies in the league, and even had a Vezina to his name in Edmonon. Cujo was a finalist for a Hart trophy during and immediately after his tour in Edmonton. They were both comofrtably within the top 5 goalies in the league at the time.

Roloson was a very good goalie and its a shame that he never got a starting chance before 35 years old. His greatest strength was the poise and leadership he always showed though. I would still have traded him for a lot of strong goalies during his time in Edmonton.

I’d say Roly was at least a 1A-1B since 2001 but with a name like Liquid Dwayne-o it makes you think he may have had a career more memorable in line with Cujo and Fuhr with a little less partying. Worked out fine for Fuhr but different substances have different effects lol.

Would guess Cujo was more on the Fuhr side than Roly side of substances but I have no evidence to the fact.

What about Ranford?

What about Ranford?

Conn Smythe playoff MVP to win the cup in 1990 and won a Canada Cup as team Canada’s starter. He played longer with the Oilers than Cujo as well. Sadly his last 4 seasons with Edmonton were after the full Pocklington Fire sale. Got Vezina votes when traded to Boston.

Yeah, no “Roloson era” but will always remember and love him, such a big part of that magical run. Hope the same for Campbell and Skinner, a 2023 to remember.
