2017 PLAYOFFS (G7): G1 OILERS AT DUCKS

The game of hockey is woven into the fabric of Edmonton, as sure as I’m sitting here. Your parents and their parents and their parents too carved a life in the land of the ice and snow, working harder every day than I can possibly imagine. If you know your family history, then you know stories of isolation, tragedy, lost children and two damned wars. You know stories of incredible risk, great faith, and entire lives lived working fingers to the bone. We come from hearty stock, we live a life made easier by the men and women in our collective past.

In Edmonton, 90 years ago, the cityfolk cheered for their first hockey hero. He came from Cupar, just north of the Qu’Appelle valley—a spot that might be the most beautiful on the entire prairie. He became known as the Edmonton Express, and he was tough and talented and ruthless and reflected from whence he came. He lived in a time we cannot comprehend, and represents the first hockey hero this city embraced, on the way to a storied history far beyond its station. The Edmonton hockey team is providing a new generation of heroes to cheer for in the remains of the day, just like Eddie Shore in 1926. This is us, and it is beautiful.

After the 1992 playoffs, the Oilers missed their first NHL playoff spring in 1993. The club also missed in 1994, 1995 and 1996, and changed coaches most every year. By the time Edmonton made it back again, the coach was Ron Low, the goalie was Curtis Joseph, and the heart of the order contained Jason Arnott, Ryan Smyth and several former NY Rangers draft picks (Dougie Weight, Todd Marchant).

In terms of fun, this team had it all, including a wonderful Russian (Bo Mironov) and the toughest man on the planet (Mike Grier). Old timey Oilers included Kevin Lowe (back from NYC and in his final full season) and Kelly (take ’em wide!) Buchberger.

1997 PLAYOFFS

  • Won opening round series 4-3 over Dallas (this was the Marchant OT series. An entire generation of Oilers fans sprouted on the night of Tuesday, April 29, 1997).
  • Lost second round to Colorado 4-1.
  • Source

If this year’s Oilers are about Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Oscar Klefbom and Cam Talbot, that 1997 team was about Doug Weight, Ryan Smyth, Boris Mironov and Curtis Joseph. Zack Kassian is the Todd Marchant so far, but miles of script to write this spring.

THE LINEUPS (EDMONTON OILERS)

Edmonton’s numbers against Anaheim during the regular season are here, look for that top line to be back together tonight. A key to success this series? Finding a third line that can score, and I wonder if Anton Slepyshev or Benoit Pouliot get a boost to the Letestu line (or the Desharnais line finds success).

THE LINEUPS (ANAHEIM DUCKS)

Anaheim’s lines move around a lot, but these are the latest I have seen so we’ll go with them. The pairings are listed as I remember them, injuries have impacted recent lineups but I don’t trust Randy Carlyle and I bet we see most or all of this bunch tonight. Edmonton did a fine job against these Ducks during the year, and you can see (compared to the Oilers) the third line stands out offensively. I think third lines are going to have a big impact on this series. Third lines and third pairings.

Massive opportunity for Puljujarvi, getting to play with Aho and Filppula on a feature line at the WHC’s. A strong offensive finish at the tournament would bode well for a strong start this fall in Oilers training camp. I think we’ll see the giant Finn in the NHL for 82 next year.

I was the third person in this house to find out Oscar Klefbom is fine, the two womenfolk mysteriously paying closer attention to this Oiler than the others (complete mystery). I’m thrilled to see Oscar doing so well, this is a wonderful result from one of the (many) down moments in previous seasons.

When the Oilers dealt Dustin Penner to the coast, I wrote an item that received the most pure acid in this blog’s history. I ended up deleting the comments (although one comedian has since posted), simply too much vitriol and personal attacks to let it stand. Looking back, I think the actual post is pretty close.

  • If you’ve read this far you are entitled to my opinion. I do not feel a complete rebuild was required and would have preferred they keep Penner or deal him for more immediate help. The Oilers under owner Daryl Katz–and make no mistake this drawn out process is his vision–have decided that Edmonton fans will not see a contending team in Rexall Place. You can make up your own mind as to the reasons, but my belief is that the owner and hockey men are convinced this is the proper journey to winning the 6th Stanley.
  • With that as a caveat, I’m satisfied with the return. Understanding that the organization has decided to rebuild with Taylor Hall as the “franchise” then the organization must acquire both picks and prospects in that general age group. When Hall explodes as a player, the team can cash picks and prospects in an effort to add depth to the batting order, but it isn’t going to happen this or next season.
  • I remain convinced the team could have added some elements in the summer and contended for a playoff spot. The management group went another way, and acquired a bet in Teubert that may or may not come through. Teubert can be added to the list that includes Peckham, Petry, Chorney, Plante at the pro level and Marincin, Blain, Davidson and others in junior.
  • This is a build around Taylor Hall. Are you up for a rebuild? Next stop: dealing Ales Hemsky and securing a new arena. After that, a contender.

CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS?

  • Ryan Kesler: “People think I try to go out and frustrate my opponent. I just play my game. If that frustrates them, that’s their problem.” Source

I think the McDavid-Kesler matchup is going to be fascinating, but the Oilers should win if the referees call the game straight up. Edmonton’s PP versus Anaheim’s PK should be advantage Oil. One other thing: Because the assembled media is full of ex-goalies who got fed by previous incarnations of the Oilers, expect issue framing all series long. It is important then to have facts at our disposal, facts like McDavid outscored Kesler 3-1 and had a Corsi for 5×5 of 56.98 during the regular season against him.

On the note of negative coverage of the Oilers, I would like you to do me a favor. Remember. Remember the names of all broadcasters and media who have delighted in Edmonton’s torture over the last decade, and who will be barely able to contain glee if the upstart Oilers cannot climb this hill, this spring. There will be other springs, and it is important to know who is offering you the real information, and who has an axe to grind due to loyalty placed in Vancouver, Toronto or Calgary. Remember, and do not forgive. Eddie Shore will be disappointed in you if your forget.

  1. Lowetide says:

I kind of felt we would see more goals in this one, but I was hoping EDM could nurse (pardon) this one home. Anaheim is a good team.

  2. StixMalone says:

    Not gonna go our way…

  3. Jaxon says:

I’ve got a real hate-on for Lucic in this game. No F’in’ awareness of what’s going on around him and so many pucks fly off his stick or bounce off his stick. Uggh!

  4. cc says:

    what was Lucic thinking

  5. Lucinius says:

Yeah.. Talbot has to be better. Tighten up that rebound control.

    Goal should count.

  6. LadiesloveSmid says:

Really wondered about this coughing up 3-1 leads in the playoffs thing and then BAM

  7. Crazy Pedestrian says:

Fuck you refs…goals have been called back against us for less…

  8. Jon K says:

Lucic needs to recognize the play there. He’s the highest forward in the zone and he’s at the top of the crease basically. Cannot turn it over in that way defending the lead.

  9. Pouzar says:

Talbot has got to have that.

  10. delooper says:

Kesler pushed Talbot back, that probably should be interference. . . but the NHL reffing is a mystery.

  11. theDjdj says:

You can not make contact in the blue paint. Ever. No goal.

  12. russ99 says:

Keep the faith, we’re still on this one.

  13. LMHF#1 says:

russ99: Yeah, Sekera abandoning his man had nothing to do with it,

So fed up with this garbage, He’s an Oiler, stop looking for things to blame him on.

    Fuck.

    You serious?

He’s standing there, out of position, doing nothing.

And who gives a damn if he’s an Oiler?

  14. delooper says:

Given all the goals 44 has had disallowed, that call does not make sense.

  15. jzed says:

Lots of wasted effort with 2 bad goals, get back to work, tied in the 3 Rd, got em where you want em

  16. jake70 says:

Nuge misread that as well…..needed to be more in the middle and higher I think.

  17. SK Oiler Fan says:

    Pouzar:
Talbot has got to have that.

    Struggling with blocker side

  18. Scungilli Slushy says:

delooper: Pouliot had some nice plays in the 2nd period.

    NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!!!

  19. Crazy Pedestrian says:

Now my blood is boiling… tight checking game until we score, then flood gates open, and goalies look ordinary…

  20. Diablo says:

    theDjdj:
You can not make contact in the blue paint. Ever. No goal.

You’d really expect the NHL to rule against a California team, and in favour of a small market Canadian team?

  21. Lucinius says:

    Jon K,

Fair point. Lucic has to be stronger on that play.

Still, ultimate culprit, imo, is Talbot. Two goals against in a row where he struggled on rebound control. First one; tip screwed with him, but he over-reacted a touch right after which opened him up for the goal. Second one; looked a bit shaky and catching the puck with his eyes and lost it long enough that he wasn’t square to it, and then behind him it goes.

  22. russ99 says:

    LMHF#1: You serious?

He’s standing there, out of position, doing nothing.

And who gives a damn if he’s an Oiler?

It’s a faceoff, and Sekera was covering Eakin, and gave him up,

He’s supposed to cover two players?

The Russell blaming is getting to Justin Schultz levels around here.

  23. Scungilli Slushy says:

That was definitely a clean goal

  24. jp says:

Back to even on the road, 8 min to go.

    Fuck a Duck.

  25. Jon K says:

Jim Hughson is giddy. Literally cannot contain his smiles.

  26. Nuclear leak says:

    So many empty seats

  27. theDjdj says:

Not defending talbots poor plsy there. But if we’re using season reviews as precedence that is a no goal. We’re asking for consistency. Not much.

  28. Pouzar says:

Line 2 gonna pot one to win it.

  29. Lucinius says:

Eh, it was a good goal. There was no real interference on Talbot. I get not wanting it to count, but I see no reason it should have been disallowed, especially given how they call goalie interference in the playoffs — for any team.

  30. oilman says:

I really wish Jim Houghson could contain his excitement a little when Anaheim scores….hate that guy

  31. LMHF#1 says:

russ99: It’s a faceoff, and Sekera was covering Eakin, and gave him up,

He’s supposed to cover two players?

The Russell blaming is getting to Justin Schultz levels around here.

Covering one, and not being on the wrong side of the play would help.

    If it’s true, it’s true.

  32. Réal Goudenyéu says:

    Lucinius:
    Jon K,

Fair point. Lucic has to be stronger on that play.

    To many days off

  33. PDO says:

There is no way that goal should have counted. Way less has resulted in goals called off this year. Fuck sake.

  34. jake70 says:

Maroon man…serving it up in the slot like that.

  35. Crazy Pedestrian says:

    Man these refs…

  36. verite says:

RNH should play women’should pkay women’s hockey, not the NHL

  37. russ99 says:

LMHF#1: Covering one, and not being on the wrong side of the play would help.

    If it’s true, it’s true.

It’s a standard faceoff setup, had he moved over to cover Eakin (late mind you) and Eakin passed to a open Duck on the left side, you’d be blaming him for leaving the crease.

  38. Crazy Pedestrian says:

    Nice hit Lucic…

  39. Jon K says:

    Lucinius:
    Jon K,

I don’t disagree. Usually there will be a few errors on scoring plays. Goalie is the last line of defence though. Lucic needs to keep the puck in their zone when we have established possession.

  40. Diablo says:

Wow Lucic took his frustrations out on Fowler there

  41. delooper says:

Benning is letting Nurse do all the work. . .

  42. LadiesloveSmid says:

I always bet on the team that came back in a tie. Wish it just stayed 1-1 🙁

  43. Lucinius says:

Oilers might want to defer 3-1 leads in the future.

  44. Diablo says:

    PDO:
There is no way that goal should have counted.Way less has resulted in goals called off this year.Fuck sake.

When has video review ever worked in our favour?

  45. Crazy Pedestrian says:

Ducks have the momentum… don’t like our chances if we get to OT…

  46. StixMalone says:

2nd line have been terrible tonight overall. They need t get one to make up for the night….

  47. verite says:

    The NHL is corrupt
    Let the truth out

  48. LMHF#1 says:

russ99: It’s a standard faceoff setup, had he moved over to cover Eakin and he passed to a open Duck on the left side, you’d be blaming him for leaving the crease.

Your job as a defenceman on the draw is to tie up the winger. It’s not hard. He has no one. I’m done.

  49. delooper says:

Diablo: When has video review ever worked in our favour?

I recall maybe only one occurrence this season. Was quite a while ago. . .

  50. Lucinius says:

    Crazy Pedestrian,

Not sure we get there. Oilers are playing a bit panic-y. They need to tighten things back up. Get back to their game. Pressure from the Ducks and the goals have them running around a bit and messing up simple things.

  51. jp says:

Strong defensive play there by Sleppy too!

  52. russ99 says:

LMHF#1: Your job as a defenceman on the draw is to tie up the winger. It’s not hard. He has no one. I’m done.

And Sekera didn’t tie up the winger, Russell was on the left side of the net. He’s not superman.

  53. SK Oiler Fan says:

Sekera looks like he’s tired of playing in his own end

  54. treevojo says:

    Lars baby

  55. LadiesloveSmid says:

Really looking like Anaheim’s game to lose now

  56. Lowetide says:

    Adam Larsson scored.

  57. Nuclear leak says:

    Adam tucking Larsson! Woooooooot

  58. Spengler says:

    Larsson??!!!

  59. LMHF#1 says:

    Adam Larsson. That is all.

  60. --hudson-- says:

    Taylor Larson

  61. Crazy Pedestrian says:

    HOLY SHIT LARRSSOON!!!

  62. jp says:

    Are you kidding me?

Larsson’s first 2 goal game ever?

    Amazing!

  63. khildahl says:

    I like that Swede.

  64. fuzzy muppet says:

    Seriously, Taylor who?

  65. Rich M says:

    Wow. Larsson!!

  66. treevojo says:

We traded for a #1 dman

  67. OmJo says:

Sekera tried doing that earlier, too. Hold this lead this time!

  68. Diablo says:

    Larsson – offensive RHD!

  69. Caller Zen says:

Seeing Russel really bad tonight …seeing Larsson really good.

  70. russ99 says:

    Larson!!!!!

  71. StixMalone says:

    Larsson is a beast….he’s got 2

  72. Suntory Hanzo says:

    Grand Larssony!

  73. Lucinius says:

    Wow.

    What a goal.

Gibson is like; ‘don’t worry Talbot, I’ll make you look better”

  74. Ice Sage says:

    That was filthy

  75. Gret99zky says:

sit on the lead, sit on the lead…

  76. Réal Goudenyéu says:

    Adam coffee

  77. BeerMe says:

    LOL MOTHERFUCK YES

  78. dangilitis says:

Did Larsson chat with Taylor Hall before tonight’s game?!?

  79. Ryan says:

What was the name again of that guy who we traded for Larsson?

  80. Jon K says:

Justice. Larsson forcing Gibson on a terrible goal. Now don’t fuck it up.

Edit: Off Manson. Tough break for Gibson. Thought it went off his stick.

  81. Yak Efron says:

    Hold my beer

    -Larsson to McDavid

  82. PokeCheck says:

    Larssony!

  83. theDjdj says:

    *Trade banter incoming*

  84. striatic says:

Larsson channeling #4 .. and I’m not talking about the one he was traded for. dang.

[Yesyes he caught a lucky bounce let me have my moment!]

  85. Ice Sage says:

Oilers not sending 3 deep now – baby steps

  86. delooper says:

Nice. Larsson is willing the Oilers to a victory.

  87. Craig Zonit says:

Larsson 2 goals for a profound “what?”

  88. delooper says:

    Nice shot Adam!

  89. Yeti says:

    Craig Zonit:
Larsson 2 goals for a profound “what?”

He’s only doing it to personally piss Bruce Wayne off.

  90. fuzzy muppet says:

    Oh the sphinctors!

  91. LMHF#1 says:

    Coast to Coast no less!

  92. jake70 says:

ok…all 5 skaters and goalie lie vertically in the net….

  93. Nuclear leak says:

Larsson looks like he’s ready to raid England

  94. Caller Zen says:

Alright Oilers, 3 minutes of Lady Byng hockey

  95. Lucinius says:

    Jon K:
Justice. Larsson forcing Gibson on a terrible goal. Now don’t fuck it up.

Edit: Off Manson. Tough break for Gibson. Thought it went off his stick.

Look at Gibson’s positioning, though. He totally screws it up. No way that should happen. Yet it did because he turns weirdly on those plays. I haven’t seen that since Hasek — but Hasek could pull it off because Hasek was insane. And good.

  96. LMHF#1 says:

Gotta cut down those neutral zone turnovers gents.

  97. Rich M says:

Cags has to get that puck deep.

  98. Jon K says:

Talbot fighting the rebounds tonight. Jesus.

  99. Diablo says:

Talbot’s rebound control has not been great tonight

  100. Spengler says:

    LMHF#1:
    Coast to Coast no less!

Swedish coasts are much closer to each other.

  101. SK Oiler Fan says:

    Rebounds! Talbot!

  102. jake70 says:

    Rich M:
Cags has to get that puck deep.

    Yep…not the NCAA here

  103. Ice Sage says:

Oh man, that tackle by Russell was not called. #gratitude

  104. Crazy Pedestrian says:

    OPEN NET!!!!

  105. TheGreatMutato says:

    Beats by Drai

  106. Lucinius says:

Hasn’t been a great night for the goalies tonight, even in the other series.

  107. Nuclear leak says:

    Yes!

  108. treevojo says:

    Fucking beauty

  109. Spengler says:

    That was pretty

  110. LMHF#1 says:

Another stellar play by Larsson set that up.

  111. --hudson-- says:

Not another two goal lead 😉

  112. Crazy Pedestrian says:

We finally freaking scored on an empty net!!! Hallelujah !!!!!

  113. Diablo says:

  116. Ryan says:

  117. BeerMe says:

  118. Yak Efron says:

Someone needs to complain about the faceoffs in the after game scrums, just to rub it in Carlyles face.

  119. jp says:

    This is too much!!!

I still can’t believe this team. So amazing!!!!

This is all so hard to comprehend after years in the gutter.

  136. fuzzy muppet says:

  137. Ice Sage says:

Ducks getting deeper into the gutter.

  138. jp says:

Oh fuck that. Pull Kassian off of Kesler and then Kesler is all over Sekera? That is not OK.

  139. Crazy Pedestrian says:

    Sekera just laughing at Getzlaf

  140. BeerMe says:

    That’s some thuggery

  141. fuzzy muppet says:

    Fuck the ducks.

  142. Yak Efron says:

  157. Crazy Pedestrian says:

    5 goals, McDavid only had 1 assist… that’s depth!

  158. LMHF#1 says:

    Regulation win streak?

    She gone.

  159. pocession charge says:

What a satisfying victory. The Ducks are a bunch of pukes. Great games from Drai, Looch, and Larsson!!

  160. jp says:

    Ryan,

    Amazing!

  161. khildahl says:

Kassian, Sekera, Getzlaf, and Kesler all got roughing calls out of that.

  162. bsmart says:

McDavid has the flu, he is not hurt

  163. Ice Sage says:

    delooper:
Propellerheads “Take California” starting to rumble in my head.

In a stilted German voice: Is there anything of yours that we can keep as a memento of this visit?

Thanks loops – I used to love that song and will be enjoying it into the 3rd round 🙂

  164. Caller Zen says:

Getzlaf is a serious poor sport – he goes into bully mode because his team lost. Pathetic

  165. BeerMe says:

    bsmart:
McDavid has the flu, he is not hurt

Seems like the most likely explanation

  166. LadiesloveSmid says:

I need to sign up for some meditation if I keep watching these playoffs.

What a punchable face Getzlaf has, weird that I’ve never hated him before

  167. dangilitis says:

    Crazy Pedestrian:
    Sekera just laughing at Getzlaf

Listen, Getzlaf should be happy. If the Oilers finish the Ducks off quickly, he’ll still have time to join team Canada and a chance to join the Triple Gold Club

  168. Yak Efron says:

    Diablo:
Oilers should salute the fans at centre ice

    Omg that would be amazing.

  169. Ice Sage says:

    delooper:
    Ducks becoming cheap-shot artists.

    Becoming????

  170. Chachi says:

    Yegfoundation:
suck it flames, that’s how you do it.

It is literally the sweetest part of this. They had Lindholm and Fowler in on D and lost Bieksa which makes them 1000 times better than they were against the Flames and the Oilers pull it out. Just awesome. Anaheim also rattled at the end there.

  171. khildahl says:

    khildahl:
Kassian, Sekera, Getzlaf, and Kesler all got roughing calls out of that.

    And Perry and Caggiula. Wow.

  172. Iztok Turk says:

It has been a long time for some of us. We’re approaching “Bonafide” status for this run..

  173. gogliano says:

Pulled out a win on the road with Talbot looking shaky and without McDavid busting out.

  174. LadiesloveSmid says:

Draisaitl is going to get PAAAAAIIIID

  175. StixMalone says:

Larsson did his best Coffey end to end play….

  176. fuzzy muppet says:

Friday nights gonna be a rough one. I work at 5 am Saturday

  177. Craig Zonit says:

    have a beer, and another.

    gutsy road win.

  178. Rich M says:

    fuzzy muppet,

Sleep is for when the playoffs are over.

  179. Lucinius says:

Nice touch by the Ducks there at the end, trying to bully Cags and Sekera.. haha. Classic bully move.

Loved Sekera’s reactions. Bemusement. Then a touch of fear when Getzlaf grabs him by the collar at the front and almost shoves/tips him backwards.. and then laughter right after.

  180. Nuclear leak says:

At some point in this series Getzlaf’s face will meet Nurse’s fist.

  181. delooper says:

    LadiesloveSmid:
What a punchable face Getzlaf has, weird that I’ve never hated him before

That’s a pretty jawline you have there, Mr. Getzlaf. Wouldn’t want to see any harm come to it. . .

  182. Zelepukin says:

MASSIVE win. Ducks haven’t lost in regulation at home since March 10th.

  183. Diablo says:

Great job by our boys tonight – showed great resilience sticking with it after the 3-3 goal. Pressure is squarely on Anaheim now. If they keep gooning it up, the Oilers are going to sink them on the PP. I wonder if Anaheim has it in them to cut out the douchbaggery and focus on the hockey?

  184. jzed says:

Getsalaugh can see his 2nd round departure looming, man I’m going to sleep smiling tonight

  185. dangilitis says:

    Larssony –

Somewhere Gene Principe must be fuming that he hadn’t thought of that one first…

  186. delooper says:

    Nuclear leak:
At some point in this series Getzlaf’s face will meet Nurse’s fist.

    I suspect it might be Thor’s hammer. . . I mean, Adam Larsson’s fist.

  187. Nuclear leak says:

Leon’s showing a lot of Stan Weir traits

    How about that John Shannon?

  188. fuzzy muppet says:

    Rich M,

Sleep isn’t the issue. Curbing my intake is the issue!

  189. Lucinius says:

    Zelepukin:
MASSIVE win. Ducks haven’t lost in regulation at home since April 26th.

    Fixed that for you.

    The Oilers say “you’re welcome”.

  190. Nuclear leak says:

delooper: I suspect it might be Thor’s hammer. . . I mean, Adam Larsson’s fist.

Larsson’s hammer is too busy scoring!

  191. StixMalone says:

“Gets a laff ” is exactly what Sekera gave him….eat your heart out Principe…

  192. Jaxon says:

Looking at McDavid during the end of game congrats, he looks ill. Has a queasy look on his face. Also noticed he wasn’t lifting his arms at certain times. Skating seemed off. Could be injury. Basically, I’m saying, I don’t have a clue. Good night.

  193. Wolfie says:

If the Oilers manage to win the Cup and there is a Conn Smythe conversation. Even if Connor McDavid isn’t the best player in the playoffs they should still give it to him. He makes everyone around him better. The very best do that. He still was involved offensively tonight but not the “Star”.

He creates time and space for all his teammates.

I noticed Carlyle abandoned the hard match of Kesler against McDavid in favour of Getzlaf. I loved Kassian getting in Kesler’s grill. You can get under Kesler’s skin. He lost his cool in Vancouver earlier in his career.

If you’re TMac would you swap Draisaitl and Kassian just to get Kassian in Kesler’s ear? Get Drai some clearer air possibly… He looks like he’s about to start mudering the dregs… Keep Nuge on Getz as much as possible….

  194. BeerMe says:

    Larsson looks tired af

  195. striatic says:

Zelepukin: MASSIVE win. Ducks haven’t lost in regulation at home since March 10th.

This ought to be something of a shock to their system then.

The Oilers will need to play much better than this if they want to win the series. Good news is, they can.

  196. pocession charge says:

    fuzzy muppet:
    Rich M,

Sleep isn’t the issue.Curbing my intake is the issue!

Me, too! An overwhelming urge to keep drinking right now.

  197. Lucinius says:

Worst we can do now is five games in the second round. It’d be disappointing in the moment, but on the whole it’d be tremendous.

And that’s the worst we can do now.

Not many expected that from the Oilers this year. If they can win one more game this series I’ll be perfectly happy regardless of what happens. But even if the worst should happen I’m not going to be angry. Well, I’ll be angry at the Ducks because they’re the Ducks and I can’t stand the team, but.. there is no way this post-season can be a failure by Edmonton now.

Yet all we will hear is how McDavid sucks in the playoffs.

    Matthews > McDavid! Obviously!

  198. Nuclear leak says:

If Taylor Hall has the score app, he was just notified he can watch Larsson go end to end for the game winning goal.

  199. LMHF#1 says:

    Wolfie:

Depends what you want to do. Either Lucic or Nurse on the same ice as Kesler if you want to catch him on the tracks. Kassian if you want talking, face washes and stickwork.

I want him on the tracks.

  200. Wolfie says:

    Jaxon,

Connor is probably nicked up a bit… But I suspect there is some gamesmanship going on. Be smart about where you spend your energy. Connor has a gear no one else has. He can either fight through the hard checking and expend tons of energy. Or be like water and roll off it and use it to his advantage…. Accelerate when needed not all the time. Have that extra in the tank when it’s in the balance.
