Oilers at 186: Shane Lachance

by Lowetide

Interesting player, ranked No. 199 by the Draft Analyst. He played for the Jr. Bruins in a prep league that feeds players to the USHL and eventually college. His Dad is Scott Lachance, former NHL player (over 800 games) and his Grandfather is legendary college coach Jack Parker.

He’s 6.04, 190, and very young (August 30, 2003). More to come.

Watched some video, Bambi on ice, lol. All kinds of gangly… Scores a lot on tips and rebounds, but skating needs work.

Showed some good puck skills in HS competition. He reminds me of Kesselring when he was picked in that he shows hints of possibilities, but needs a lot of work.

Can’t wait to see how he irons out his gangly dangles ?

Overall a good draft, I don’t know that much about these kids to get worked up into a lather over any of the selections

I think I would have taken the goalie at 20 though

GordieHoweHatTrick

I hear there is a Lachance we got a Maximus Wanger!

The draft ends with two teams who are not afraid of picking QMJHL players (MTL and TBL), and one team that is not afraid of small or older players in TBL. I wonder if one of them picks RHD Miguel Tourigny. One of the top scoring D in the Q this year. Pronman singled him out as one of the fastest in the draft and having one of the best shots in the draft. He was passed over last year. Sounds like a good TBL pick to finish with.

I feel for the kid. I had him on my list last year and he didn’t get drafted even though his 5v5 points production was solid. He’s done everything he can to make it yet his size appears to be the stumbling block. And you can’t train size. Shitty. Hopefully MTL or TBL grab him.

Jaxon

Hell, he even got into 2 fights against guys who were 6’2″ and 6’3″.

Can I ask (suggest) that we have a new “post-draft discussion” thread made for general conversation going in to the evening?

Its really tough to keep track of conversations and posts with 6-7 active threads.

Just a thought.

Randle McMurphy

Give him a minute. LT read the name Maximus Wanner and choked on a nacho chip.

Tarkus

Six Oiler picks:

4 forwards
2 d-men

4 RH shots
2 LH shots

4 North Americans
2 Euros

Psyche
Randle McMurphy

Maximus Wanner.

Man, if that second “n” was a “g”

Someone

Is he related to Biggus Dickus?

Doug McLachlan

And Montreal gets the goalie I was holding out hope for, Joe Vrvbetic. Based on no actual knowledge, btw, but there you go.

PokeCheck

#212 – Maximus Wanner D from Moose Jaw, WHL, who will have his vengeance, in this life or the next.

Maximus Wanner to the Oilers at 212.

Probably not the Moose Jaw Warrior anyone anticipated.

6’3″, 195 lb. RHS d-man.

Flavius Maximus..!

So far we’ve got 14, 70 and 90 off of LT’s list. And we entered the draft with no second or third. 🙂

PokeCheck

This looks very similar to the current Seattle roster.

Oil2Oilers

Your volume of work on the second draft day LT is real and spectacular.

And appreciated

Todd Macallan

Eric Alarie still sitting there LT.

Todd Macallan

Well they finally picked a Moose Jaw Warrior at least.

Randle McMurphy

As per Sportsnet

Yanni Gourde, Barclay Goodrow, Tyler Johnson, Jan Rutta, all undrafted.

Patrick Maroon 6th round pick, Ondrej Palat 7th round pick

Pretendergast

He’s got a Lachance to be a player of interest.
