I did not have him on my list, Red Line ranked him No. 187 overall. He’s a bigger defender, a November 2002, he did play at the WJ’s for Germany and is on his way to college (Vermont).
Ryan Kennedy at SI has an article here, a partial quote from a scout: “A little on the rugged side and he made that good first pass. He wasn’t on our radar prior to the tournament but he showed well and looks like a draft.”
Watching the video provided on another post from the World Jr’s…sheesh! I like his own zone defending! Very pleasantly surprised.
Got a few years now to work on his puck play
I watched the same. He lined up a lot with the 1st line, but I have to say he needs a lot of work.
The good, he is strong and skates very well. He is very aggressive and really challenges the puck carrier at the blue line.
The bad, he passes like Russell (lots of boards and out, or in the skates or out of reach). But is certainly no Matt Cairns, he is a legit NHL prospect.
If you go within reach, he will make hard contact. He also is active in moving opponents out of his goalie’s sight lines.
He will be interesting to follow at Vermont. I predict he will turn out to be a more effective Kemp…. The Larsson replacement, although he is a lefty, he played RD.

Luca Münzenberger played for Leon Draisaitl’s youth club, the Cologne Sharks. I’m German the Kölner Junghaie.
Physical smothering defender:
Dare I hope?
A future Top 60 def dman.
this yr most (80%) of the rounds were 2.00 GA or lower in 15 series 4 wins.
1 – 3G .75GAA
2 – 5G 1.25 GAA
1 – 6G 1.50 GAA
7 – 7G 1.75 GAA
1 – 8G 2.00 GAA
2 – 9G 2.25 GAA
1 – 10G 2.50 GAA
The last 3 series: .75; 1.25 & 1.75.
this has beeen going on for a long time.
We have 4 – Bottom 40 Dmen (=2 D prs) each giving up more than 1.00 evga in 16-18min of play. That is xGA nearer to 2.25 without even the PKGA.
Offences do not outscore Def in Playoff series
It rarely happens.
But when it does Alot are driven by Injuries thru playoffs and Brutal Reffing calls. (Ie. Physics law breaking good goal calls & Phantom majors, etc.)
I thought of you when reading about von Bülow after he was drafted.
Awesome name, Leon’s already texting him, who the hell knows this year hopefully woodcrofts brother isn’t full of it.
Kenny looking at Leon, we will purge Germany together you and I.
I wonder what the eventual Munzenberger combo will feature.
I guess double patties, really stinky cheese, an aggressive salad
wash it all down with a red bull
Either way you’re going to remember it!
Lol. Now available at Bobby Nick’s for the Lowe price of $25 per Combo with extra sauerkraut and a side of bangers.
I don’t know a thing about this player other than what’s been reported here.
I do know a lot about Oilers draft history Moar Biggar is a real thing for Oilers 3rds and a lot of value has been lost with these picks in the last 20 years.
Hope these Oilers scouts have returned to the Days of being able to find D men
As easily as looking for darkness at midnight. Thyev been on fire the last handful of drafts so I’m more hopeful now than I would have been 7 years ago.
The Bourg, the Berg, and the Bear – sounds like a sitcom
Chiasson draft reports sound remarkably similar to how the old Chiasson actually plays
Interesting tidbit about Chiasson here:
https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/477353/jake-chiasson
Sounds kinda like The Bourg re: having a deceptive shot.
Except Jake can skate 🙂
@DetroitRedWings
With the 114th pick in the 2021 #NHLDraft, the #RedWings select center Red Savage.
Why, oh why, does the name David Musil pop into my head.
Moves better than Musil
Oilers take RW Jake Chiasson (#90 on LT’s list, Brandon Wheat Kings. Good size, improved offensively.)
Like the pick, back to the WHL for LT!
Jake Chiasson to the Oilers at 116.
Scouting report:
https://thehockeywriters.com/jake-chiasson-2021-nhl-draft-prospect-profile/
2 picks out from 116, the best available from LT’s list –
24 LW Eric Alarie, Moose Jaw Warriors 6.01, 196. Big PF with plus skill.
36 LW Joshua Roy, Sherbrooke Phoenix. High-end skill, could go higher.
41 RC Connor Lockhart, Erie Otters. Probably the best skater among OHL eligibles.
48 RC Justin Robidas, Val d’Or Foreurs. He’s Yvan Cournoyer small, bullet on skates.
51 LC Lorenzo Canonica, Shawinigan Cataractes. Another skill center, great skater.
…
71 RD Jacob Guévin, Muskegon Lumberjacks. Offensive defenseman, fine skater.
73 LD Graham Sward, Spokane Chiefs. He’s 6.02, 169. Physical mobile shutdown blue.
…
84 G Brett Brochu, London Knights. Under radar goalie delivered a .919 SP as a rookie.
Just a couple more names and you would have gotten to Chiasson 🙂
Price on Reinhart was more than the Oilers could afford but less than I expected him to go for. Sabres must have really Levi.
you don’t think the Oilers could afford their 1st and goalie prospect?
We don’t have a goalie prospect with Levi’s hype from the tournament of small sample size … I assume Buffalo locked into Levi as a player of extreme interest. Any of Skinner, Konovolov, Rodrigue may end up having better careers but they don’t have any trade cache right now.
And the pick isn’t until next year.
Would have been a much better bet than Hyman.
IF Reinhart would agree to an extension of his contract I agree. I guess that is the piece of info we don’t have but should come to light.
I’m guessing that was the hold up after the trade was revealed last night.
The Oilers were looking for someone to play left wing.
That this pick was recruited by and will be coached by Woodcroft is promising. It shows that the Oilers did some homework and have a development plan.
Manson.
No Todd Woodcroft at Vermont
Any relation to Jay?
Jk
His brother according to Nugent-Bowman. I presume that is where the intel came from.
#116
Red Savage
Justin Robidas
Is Chicago in Canada now?
If we are walk about already, expect to see some unpronounceable names on the way
Shift-by-shift video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfdk1IIWQ68&t=214s
Appears to defend very well, mobility looks solid.
Obviously not a math pick, picked for his defending no doubt. Does reportedly have a bomb of a shot and passing looks alright, so maybe a little untapped offensive potential.
Probably could’ve been available later but it’s a weird draft and I’m guessing they didn’t want to take a chance.
At 90?
Big and mean, quick and has a bomb of a shot. Sounds like he has good tools. He’s going to college where he’ll marinate for the next few years, then slide in at the pro level and keep the d-man pipeline churning.
Germany is still a low key underscouted place to grab talent. Their top players get much more international experience playing high level competition.
Absolutely love this player
Absolutely hate where he was drafted
Why do scouts talk themselves into these kinds of reaches?
#214 by MCKEEN’S HOCKEY
At this point, the teams draft lists are all over the map, especially this year, given the limited scouting done. Need to stick to your list and draft the players where you have them … not based on someone else’s opinion.
I agree with you, the list is the problem
Given what was available on the board, not a great pick imo. Would have been available later.
Weird draft year to be sure.
Long live the leftorium!
Klefbom and Jones are gone. Keith is 38. Lagesson is at best a tweener. Russell is probably in his last year.
Not much after Nurse, Broberg, and Samorukov anymore.
Ya they grow up fast
I imagine the oilers are alone thinking he was BPA
In addition to The Bourg, we now have “The Berg”.
He lives on the 2nd floor.

Scouting report on Munzenberger (halfway down the page) :
https://www.thedraftanalyst.com/2021-world-juniors/2021-world-juniors-day-4-recap/
Hard to believe he wouldn’t be available in a later round, disappointing pick.
Agree 100%. I understand if the scouts liked him, but I’m sure the Oilers could have gotten him later. Poor drafting strategy.
What if we trade the 4th to Toronto?
A nice walkabout pick?
