Game 21 2022-23: Oilers at Rangers

by Lowetide

In the early days of my active hockey fandom, the New York Rangers were an interesting combination of young, hip and cool (Rod Gilbert), the twilight greats (Harry Howell specifically, my Dad had time for Don Marshall) and a bunch of exciting players like Jean Ratelle, Vic Hadfield, Brad Park and even goalie Ed Giacomin. I liked backup goalie Gilles Villemure the most, he had the saddest mask and somehow that resonated. Oh to be young again!

THE ATHLETIC!

WHAT TO EXPECT IN NOVEMBER

  • At home to: NAS, NJD, DAL (Expected 2-1-0) (Actual 1-2-0)
  • On the road to: WAS, TBY, CAR, FLA (Expected 1-2-1) (Actual 2-2-0)
  • At home to: LAK, VEG (Expected 1-0-1) (Actual 1-1-0)
  • On the road to: NJD, NYI, NYR (Expected (1-1-1) (Actual 0-2-0)
  • At home to: FLA (Expected 1-0-0) (Actual 0-0-0)
  • On the road to: CHI (Expected (1-0-0) (Actual 0-0-0)
  • November expected result: 7-4-3, 17 points in 14 games
  • Actual November results: 4-7-0, 8 points in 11 games
  • October results: 6-3-0, 12 points in 9 games
  • Oilers in 2022-23: 10-10-0, 20 points in 20 games

The Western Conference is currently playing giveaway, so the Oilers actually moved up in the standings during the days off. Edmonton is now in a tie for No. 8 in the WC, miles from flush but it could be worse if one or two of these teams was hammering on all 8 cylinders. The trick for the Oilers is to become one of those teams.

YOUNG BLUE

Philip Broberg needs to play. He’s going to make mistakes and he’ll take some hits and sometimes he’ll lose position and not get it back in time. He’s going to make mistakes. Oscar Klefbom’s NHL career took flight in the fall of 2014, and he was averaging 18:02 a night at five-on-five out of the box. His five-on-five goal share? 31 percent.

I don’t think Broberg is the answer for this year, and by that I mean it’s unlikely he’ll be top-four defense by playoff time. It behooves Edmonton to play him anyway. Broberg will have more success in the spring if the plays a lot in the winter.

Broberg’s career AHL regular-season stats look impressive: 6-21-27 in 38 games, 32-17 even-strength goal differential. I think that’s a pretty impressive line. Play the man. Find out.

YOUNG BLUE

Evan Bouchard is having a tough time. It’s vital the Oilers not give up on him. Young defensemen will break your heart, but defensemen with experience who are in their 20’s have exceptional value. Right now, Bouchard’s numbers are shockingly bad, and an inexperienced general manager might make a hash of the situation.

Bouchard’s talents are duplicated on the roster by Tyson Barrie, and Bouchard has a big payday coming next summer. It’s vital for the organization to help Bouchard work through this, because dealing Bouchard and keeping Barrie is unwise.

The five-on-five numbers suggest Bouchard is playing in some bad luck. I value Corsi Rel when viewing a team’s defense, and Bouchard is posting a number far beyond any other defender. The Oilers shooting and save percentage are well below the rest of the group. His straight Corsi five-on-five is the best in the group, shot share the best in the group, expected goals the best in the group. He’s playing in some fantastically bad luck, and single events can have enormous importance in a game while also being single events.

Bouchard is going to be a productive player for a long time. The Oilers need to stay the course on their best draft pick post-McDavid. Here are the boxcars per 82 games for the picks 2016+ to give you an idea about what this young man brings/will bring.

  • Kailer Yamamoto 16-24-40
  • Evan Bouchard 10-27-37
  • Jesse Puljujarvi 14-16-30
  • Ryan McLeod 10-12-22
  • Philip Broberg 4-7-11
  • Dylan Holloway 0-10-10
  • Tyler Benson 2-5-7

Edmonton needs these young men to be part of the future and to perform at expected levels. At this point in the season, I’d say Stuart Skinner leads the department of youth and the sky is crying over the others. People are yelling for a trade, but the time isn’t right and the assets out would exceed the incoming players.

Also, people need to understand there’s an ebb and flow to a season. I would suggest to you that Leon Draisaitl isn’t full torque at this point, there’s something missing in his game. Could be the ankle, or something new. Darnell Nurse has been tentative (by design?) and Edmonton’s blue has some coverage issues. I keep hearing about needing to be more physical, but for me being inside your mark and anticipating the back door are bigger issues. Defense is difficult, this group of defensemen can do better.

I do believe the Oilers will be in the Jakob Chychrun sweepstakes, but the assets out would be substantial. I wrote about it and believe acquiring a strong defenseman is the right path, but in talking to Darren Dreger on the Lowdown recently I get a sense Edmonton doesn’t see Chychrun as being worth the probable cost. We’ll see.

DNB’s article (QandA with Holland) today is a must read. You may come out of it frustrated at a general manager who keeps his powder dry, but I would remind you of the Sunday that brought Brandon Manning and Alex Petrovic to the club. It sounds like the entire lineup (Jack Campbell starting aside) is up in the air. I hope to see Broberg and Dylan Holloway play significant minutes.

Summarizing!

Lachance and Brind’Amour each had a PP goal, while Chiasson had two PP assists.

Petrov (despite 5 SOG) and Wanner were held pointless.

OriginalPouzar

Rodrigue has stopped 35 of 36 shot tonight…… through 2 periods of play.

Professor Farnsworth

Didn’t get the chance to watch the game live today, so I’m not sure if they mentioned this on SN broadcast, but the highlights from the MSG crew (which seemed to have different camera angles of the goals) clearly show how good Holloway’s screens were on both of the first two goals. The SN highlights don’t show this particularly well, which is why I bring it up. And, of course, full credit to Bouchard for getting the shot through and getting the timing just right since it was kind of a moving screen… but Holloway was instrumental on both of those goals, even though he doesn’t get a point on either of them. Great job by him, and I hope he keeps it up!!

Munny 2.0

Coach specifically mentioned it too.

OriginalPouzar

Good point.

I saw his screen as key on the one goal, when Holloway did the fly by – can’t recall the screen on the other.

Scungilli Slushy

CoH had Holloway (and Ryan) as part of the issue net front on Gauthier’s goal. I re-watched the play.

Holloway was the first player back to support the starfishing Kulak and went straight to the net. His stick broke as he tried to push Gauthier who was looking for the puck off Campbell right in the crease.

Barrie came in on the left side with Holloway. Dylan grabbed Carpenter who had come in as well and wrestled him off the puck twisting him off the goal line (had no stick), without taking a penalty.

Barrie was puck watching and was bumped lightly, went down for a second on one knee, and let Gauthier free to put the puck in.

That was the strongest net front defensive play I can remember by a forward this season, maybe by anybody. Combined with his forechecking and screens he added some necessary NHL type play that has been sorely lacking these last 10 games, maybe all of them.

Keep it up Hollywood!

fistycuff

Vegas is dirty. Nice to see Thompson coming back to earth. Canucks looking very decent in Vegas.

LT being all clairvoyant writing about not giving up on Bouchard and how Broberg will make mistakes but they need to keep giving him reps before that game.

Oli Rodrigue having the best period of his pro career – 16 saves (a save per minute) so far including multiple solid saves defending a 5 on 3.

Oooop, there it is, the 18th shot of the period and the Barracuda score a 5 on 3 goal…

Munny 2.0

5 on 3… damn you, Rodrigue! lol

He’s posted some really nice arrows this season and it’s about time the Oil had a goalie pipeline. Maybe they should hire an ex-goalie as GM or something. Never know, might help. teehee.

OriginalPouzar

Finally the Condors game resumes after the teddy bear clean-up delay and shortly thereafter Kesselring drops the gloves – he’ll sit for 5 but it was about as much a fight as Puljujarvi earlier this year (and he looks like he shouldn’t do it often).

Hopefully Foegele isn’t out.

OriginalPouzar

Whoa, 21 seconds in and the teddy Bears fly courtesy of Espo!

OriginalPouzar

Benson and Hamblin out – Holt says “no word on their status”.

I’m sure Hamblin must be banged up but I think Benson may be ineligible as I’ve posted that he’s only permitted 3 games on this conditioning stint unless extended with NHL league approval.

Engras and Savoie in.

MushedPeas

Staples declares Foegs the best Oil forward on the ice this afternoon/morning.

I was also impressed w Foeg’s _effort_, but this is on par with the 1 rating Stew got recently (i.e. “instant demotion”).

Guy has a soap box.
Can do wtvr i guess.

OriginalPouzar

Staples is just giving his opinion on the game and the players that played – I don’t think he has any agenda or narrative – just his opinion.

I’ve “guest-written” the Cult game grades a few times and I have to say, its not easy task – one has to watch the game a different way in order to do a good job (take notes, rewind plays, etc., etc.) – its tougher then one thinks.

Munny 2.0

I used to do stats for visiting TV back when Stauffer was doing Chyron… You start off thinking Sweet, I get paid to watch the games and eat with Terry Jones, but quickly realize Thank Gord, I get paid to watch the games and get fed like Terry Jones.

Paying attention to counting numbers makes contemporaneous qualitative assessment very very difficult.

MushedPeas

Sure, but, I thought David’s whole shtick at CoH, going back decades, was that his method of evaluation had cracked the code, solved the insufficiencies of other stats, and was therefore to be given more weight than just one guy’s opinion. However, he’s out there doin it for the world to read, and you know way more about it than I do, so….

Chiasson has aPPles on both Wheaties goals as period 3 begins.

Pet peeve and I will get roasted for this I am certain.

After every game, posters here do a post mortem about every friggin’ goal and try to assign blame. Pretty easy after the fact, but these guys are trying as hard as they can and sometimes the other guy just did it better that time or got lucky. Why do some insist on picking things apart and assigning blame like they are some kind of arbiter of the sport.

It drives me crazy.

You do realize that Lafrenière is on pace to match Nail Yakupov for his career. If he were an Oiler, some here would be burning him in effigy. He got lucky. Leave Broberg alone!

OriginalPouzar

because some of us like to get in to the details, analyze players and plays and find it fun?

I’m.a big Broberg fan but have been posting about his culbability on the goal – I believe posting my thoughts on the play, and discussing it with others that enjoy doing the same, hashas zero effect on the Broberg going forward.

Dee Dee

When I played, and this was before the Internet and statistics and fancy stats.

The philosophy instilled on us was that a goal was a massive breakdown at every level on the team.

The forwards lost the puck to the opponent, the defence didn’t stop the shot and the goalie didn’t either.

nitpicking individual plays got a lot of good players sent away by this team over the years.

everyone makes mistakes, it’s wether you learn from them or not that makes the difference.

Munny 2.0

I think there’s analysis that is looking for the breakdown or the correction and then there’s the analysis that ends with I-can’t-believe-we-signed-this-guy-for-this-amount-in-a-capworld analysis.

And while in a certain sense that statement may be valid, in a single play or single game sense, it’s really over-wrought.

I don’t pay much attention to the analysis that gets personal, and that includes the non-players.

Munny 2.0

[And I’m being metaphorical and general in those descriptions not specific, don’t come at me, lol]

Funnybird

What stood out to me was the genuine pissed off reaction that he got beat on that play. That looked like a guy who doesn’t like losing… games or battles. Maybe over analyzing a bit but I like to see the passion.

For the second straight night, Lachance capitalizes on the PP as he deposits a loose puck into the awaiting cage:

11th tally of the season.

Scungilli Slushy

This game was a perfect teaching moment for Woody

The Rags did exactly what the Oilers do to lose. Gave Bouch enough time twice to get his shot off. It is unstoppable if he does well, it’s too quick. Not even their Russian could

Little loose plays sunk them even with good goalering. Like our guys do

Reja

Bouchard has been unlucky hitting posts and the crossbar on numerous occasions.Tonight he pinged one in on a unstoppable shot.

Harpers Hair

Big Boy Hockey underway in Denver.

How many will Jason Robertson score?

Harpers Hair

Wow.

Comeback night in the NHL.

STL down 4-1 after 2 periods come back to beat the Panthers 5-4.

Munny 2.0

Did anyone notice Holloway’s last touch of the puck prior to his goal?

It was a safe play in the neutral zone, banking the puck off the boards around his mark. Didn’t force anything, there was no fancy I’ll skin you one-on-one shit. Just a simple smart play that led to the Oil quickly winning the puck back and his first NHL goal.

I’m not sure he could have written a more poetic or fitting story today. Congrats, Dylan.

Scungilli Slushy

His play was impressive on many levels from the glimpses I had

OriginalPouzar

He had a solid game and now has had a run of a few games without a material mistake – got elevated to play with McLeod late and I wonder if he starts on the 3rd line on Monday and can get over 10 minutes….. even if Foegele is good to go. If he’s not, its kind of no-brainer.

I think Shore is at risk for waivers/assignment to activate Benson.

Munny 2.0

I think Shore is at risk for waivers/assignment to activate Benson

Good call, given the game the kid just had. I’d send down Shore too, and that’s with the caveat that I’ve liked his play this season so far… But that said, he hasn’t been trusted by the coach with anything difficult either. And even less so last season. Shore is definitely in danger. But Malone might be easier.

OriginalPouzar

I actually forgot about Malone – you are right, he’d be easier as he wouldn’t need to re-clear waivers but, then again, he’s playing over Shore these days.

I don’t think Shore is a risk on waivers – I think he’s likely it but you could be right.

jp

Any word on Yamamoto?

Malone or Shore could be assigned pretty easily obviously, but if Yamamoto isn’t ready (or Foegele is hurting) that would be another way to make room for Benson.

Munny 2.0

On the CHED pre-game they said he skated today and if everything went well. he might be in practice tomorrow. But that did sound like best-case scenario.

jp

Yeah sounds like about the same place he was at a week ago.

Thanks both for the replies.

OriginalPouzar

Good point – Yamo could go on IR at any time to create a roster spot (and would be eligible to be activated at any time).

Last update was that he may join the team on the trip. If he’s not ready for the home game on Monday……. yikes.

Have any of you seen the classic movie from the 70’s or 80’s “The Warriors” about a gang in New York City trying to make it back to their turf in Coney Island. There’s a recent commercial where a guy in an old funeral wagon has some bottles on his fingers clicking them against each other singing the tune from this movie “Warriors come out to play”. So, anyways, my point is that it might have been the Rangers singing this line….and the warriors did come out to play, but waited for the third to join respond to the call

Scungilli Slushy

Hopefully it is taken as the nothing it was

Move back towards reasonableness

flyfish1168

Jeremy Coupal deserves to be credited for another off-side call.

godot10

Dylan Holloway, as I have argued since training camp, is an NHL hockey player. Anything that he has to learn, has to be learnt at the NHL level.

There is no time like the present to endure what growing pains have to be endured.

The argument for Broberg is pretty much the same, although growing pains for a D are more painful than for a forward.

I like Niemelainen playing huge minutes in all situations in Bakersfield so that he is ready next year.

Scungilli Slushy

Could only watch highlights but Holloway stood out

I haven’t t seen a non Connor play that well in ages. NHL plays in the Ozone, strong on the puck

I thought I saw him throw somebody out of the crease as well. Barrie I think didn’t pick up the goal scorer, puck chasing / watching

4sberg

It really seemed like things were clicking for him the last few games, loved the segment in the broadcast where they showed coaches giving him pep talks in practice, then commented on his positive attitude regardless of results so far, he’s doing the right things with little payoff over the last little bit, but seems the game is starting to slow down enough for him to process on the fly. Nice screen on the Bouchard goal, nice goal in his own right.

godot10

On the 1st goal against, Broberg battled Lafreniere all the way from the boards to the front of the next and never left his mark.

In the final instance, Lafreniere gained advantage and leverage and won the battle because he could see Fox and the pass in his field of view and Broberg couldn’t (who was marking his man, and not puck watching, like most other Oiler D do instead of battle in front of the net and who routinely get beat off the wall to the front of the net).

The fault on that goal is on Kostin, who gave Fox a free pass down the wall, and Bouchard who didn’t adjust and didn nothing to impede the pass.

Although it ended up being a goal against, Broberg didn’t do anything wrong.

OriginalPouzar

I definitely assign culpability to Bouch for allowing such a clean pass to the front but cannot relieve Broberg of joint-culpability – at the end of the day, he lost the battle and allowed his man to tip a puck in with his stick inches from the goal-line, did he not?

4sberg

I agree to an extent with godot10 in that culpability lies with letting Fox get that far down the wall and pass unimpeded, but as much as Broberg was engaged in a battle on that play, I also give credit to Lafreniere, a pretty veteran move for a rookie to get Broberg bent over facing the slot and to spin off his hip on his strong side for a nice tip in. You could see the frustration in Broberg after the play, he slammed his stick knowing Lafreniere outworked him and outfoxed him on that setup. Learning on the job but have to think that was a good lesson for Broberg on being in position but how quick someone can spin off your hip to get in scoring position. I’m rooting for him but that was a tough one to start the game. He settled down more as the game wore on, but had a few bobbles after that play. I hope he is ready to stick this time, as a fellow Swede. Cheering for a solid if unspectacular Swedish D.

Last edited 2 years ago by 4sberg
OriginalPouzar

Good analysis, and I agree – it wasn’t egregious on Broberg and he got beat by a big and talented player but, at the end of the day, he lost the battle and got beat. This will happen, to rookies and to non-rookies as well – the key is for him to learn from it, this is NHL development that is required.

godot10

Is a defensive back in man coverage to blame for a well-thrown back-of-the-shoulder pass?

Redbird62

Very poor analogy since defenseman have some latitude in front of the net to engage with forward and the main rule is stay between your check and the net. Tough battle, but he allowed Lafreniere to get the inside position. He’ll learn but he over leveraged himself in the battle. No way Russell or Keith allow Lafreniere an easy tap in. You tie up the stick or use you body to prevent Lafreniere to get that prime position inside you toward the net. He ended up doing neither.

OriginalPouzar

Broberg lost the battle and his man scored because of it. This wasn’t a play that was unstoppable.

Scungilli Slushy

There was no exceptional individual play on that goal

What stands out is three young players failing and letting two extremely high skill players do what they will do if you let them

Fox is allowed time

Bouch finds no man’s land

Bro lets his check get inside

Bottom line is none of these things should happen, very often, or the players aren’t doing there jobs

It should almost never happen against really good players, that’s what makes them that

If a team is really humming, only really good special efforts should beat it

That’s the goal and what makes a dynasty, which we should hope for having Connor

Funnybird

I think Bro is a competitor, he got beat on that play and was pissed off. Coaches will help him figure out how to do better in those 1on1 battles.

Boil-in-the-Oil

May have already been discussed, but after looking at the scoring sheet I realized McLeod was credited with an assist on each of our 1st 3 goals. Surely this performance by our depth players bodes well for our future. Fingers crossed.

OriginalPouzar

McLeod had reverted to almost early rookie-season play recently and, for me, that comes from his regression in willingness to engage physically – his entire game, including his transition by carry game, and any offensive creativity, seem to go away with it.

I didn’t really notice a change in this area but I’ll surely take the 3 assist result – hopefully his confidence comes back, just like that.

4sberg

Interesting, they mentioned that during the game too, but I saw him over-skate and mishandle the puck a few times (especially gaining O-zone or exiting D-zone). I was surprised he showed up on so many plays on the scoresheet. Love his speed, but he has to figure out the hands in transition, then he’ll be an elite 3C IMO.

Boil-in-the-Oil

He got 3 assists and was +2 for the game… not too shabby.

MushedPeas

I have zero worries re: McLeod. He’s coming along. If anything this is the progression I prayed for through the 90s and early aughts: “good enough” leading into a long term contract.

who

Oilers deserved the win, no question. They were the better team in the last 2 periods. By a wide margin!
I liked the lineup they started with. If you are going to load up with McDavid and Draisaitl, then JP as the 3rd wheel forechecker/disruptor makes a lot of sense. The 3rd wheel on that line isn’t going to touch the puck much anyways, no matter who it is. I was disappointed Woodcroft broke them up in the third, thought they were playing well.
Didn’t like Nurses game today when the Oilers had the puck. I’d like to see him play more conservatively, especially when his d partner has the puck.
A lot of guys were solid today, but I’m waiting to see if they can string 10 games like this together.

OriginalPouzar

10 games? Yowsers – at this point, I’m looking for two and then will go from there!

jp

I thought last game looked rather like this one, except they cracked Shesterkin.

They’ve absolutely dominated shots and scoring chances for two games in a row.

OriginalPouzar

Ya, perhaps – I’m not sure the Oilers dominated the play against the Isles at any point like they did during the first 15 minutes of the 3rd against the Rags and I felt the Oilers carried the play for the last two periods, big time, against the Rags.

At the same time, I acknowledge the “expected goals” each way in the Isles game so maybe and under-valuing the Oilers’ play in that game.

Reja

I’m glad Johnny Hockey left town Calgary just isn’t the same team. He was their heart and soul add in a serviceable Monahan and the pesky power forward Tkachuk they just lack identity. Treliving nickeled and dimed Johnny on his last last contract. I don’t blame Johnny for the payback to Pizza Boy.

John Chambers

This is excellent commentary regarding Treliving, aka pizza boy.

Those contracts were already going to age badly, but satisfying to see them start so badly.

Calgary has punched themselves in the balls and I for one am amused.

MushedPeas

I feel this is an argument validating Chia’s (context-specific) overpay of Drai (now, obviously, value).
Is the argument we overpay now to overpay later?

Sierra

I don’t understand your infatuation with the Flames nor follow your comment. The Flames have a better point percentage than the Oilers after having to remake their team in the off season.

Those who live in glass houses…

Reja

Your obviously too young to be around in the Eighties with the Oilers Flames rivalry the most hatred between two teams and Cities in all of sports. The hatred was so intense that you didn’t dare wear a Flames jersey in Edmonton or vice versa. The Esks and the Stamps games were also very intense, fights in the stands we’re not uncommon. They have this thing called Utube you should watch the many crazy Oilers vs Flames games. The McSorely spear on Bullard while we were scoring a goal was absolutely brutal.

Is that the one where Leon scored the winner with 2 seconds left. I think it might have been another Jets game and I vaguely remember it being at home in OT.

MushedPeas

Not recent but wasn’t the Yak sliding goal celebration one of those games?

Tye

Missed the game (just caught the highlights).
Are we concerned at all that Soupy technically got beat 5 times tonight… again?

OriginalPouzar

Yes – both called off goals were weak on Campbell plus the one that banked in off him.

Expected goals via NST were 1.81 for the Rags.

We got out-tended and fought through it.

Campbell has yet to string back to back solid performance together (let alone plus performances).

He’ll turn it around and go on a heater at some point but this type of game will leak wins which they can’t afford much longer.

Tye

From the highlights, he was looking small in the net (which is becoming a trend with him) & like he was playing scrambly, again…

Crazy Pedestrian

Wow. Didn’t see that happening. Glad the oilers proved me wrong (this time). 4 goals in the third period after being down 3 zip and all looked lost. Comebacks like these don’t happen very often. And… super nice to see Bouchard get his 1st & 2nd. If this (including Holloway’s success today) becomes a trend, this team just got very dangerous… hopefully my optimism is not misplaced!

Oilers win- Michigan blows up Ohio state as a 9 point Dog -Canada 🇨🇦 beats Croatia 🇭🇷 for the prosperous Triactor.

Heck of a 3rd period. Now it’s time for me to go workout for 25 hours.

😂

OriginalPouzar

Ooooh, fans.

Of note, workout was done pre-game, as always – 2 hours of heavy legs this morn.

TheRealOriginalPouzer

Pffft. 2 hours. That’s it?

I am so confused. Pouzar, the original Pouzar, the real original pouzar?

Sybil.

I am begging Jay to go with the three centers. McDavid and Draisaitl are back up to 25 mins per game.

jtblack

you are 100% correct. Oilers got the HUGE win, so that’s awesome, but a lot of the same issues are still in their game.

Gave up the 1st goal.
No 5×5 pts for McD & Drai.
25 mins each for McD & Drai
Questionable defensive coverage.
Questionable goaltending

The one issue that changed today? Depth scoring 🙂

jp

They haven’t played 25 since the 2nd/3rd game of the season. And Draisaitl didn’t actually quite reach that mark tonight.

Best game of the year. What a comeback. Especially with Bouchard and Holloway scoring. I felt the Oilers spent the first half trying to get Jesse a goal but in the end the Oilers played well all game except for the Broberg blunder. Oilers last year beat the Rangers and then went on a slump. This year let’s hope they go on a run.

I never doubted Bouchard for a minute lol.

Comeback for the ages…

cowboy bill

Goaltending improved when they started scoring some goals.

OriginalPouzar

Did it?

I mean, the Rags had one shot halfway through the 3rd period and I’m not sure if they had a grade A chance in the 3rd.

EDIT:

NST has expected goals at 1.81 for the Rangers (and 3.69 for the Oilers).

No way around it, that is a giant fucking comeback and win. Huge.

Man, that’s a big win

Oilers fans collectively step back off the ledge

now if they could just cut ties, with all the lies they’ve been livin’ in. . .

I was really hoping for “I could understand” as a reply, but I’m guessing you got the earworm & replied with nice as revenge.
