Summer Wages (Condors at Canucks)

by Lowetide

Tyler Tullio is doing what Oilers prospects have done in the minors since defenseman Charlie Huddy played his first pro game for the Houston Apollos in the fall of 1979. He is progressing. A year ago, his pts-game (.41) was respectable considering he didn’t get much power-play time.

His goal share a year ago at even strength (35-30, 54 percent) while the Condors were 125-122 (51 percent) with him off the ice.

This season, Tullio is 17-13 (57 percent) at even strength while Bakersfield’s best without the young man are 108-88 (55 percent). Tullio is playing well and has established himself as a regular on a team that has plenty of options at his position.

THE ATHLETIC!

RYAN MCLEOD: THE STANDARD

McLeod’s progress both offensively and as an outscorer in Bakersfield was tremendous. You didn’t know if he would make a difference at both ends of the ice, and offense wasn’t so overwhelming he was a lock for a feature role. In the AHL, his points-per-game were .41, 1.00 and (in 7 games) .71. He spiked during the pandemic season, so it can’t be used as a perfect comp for Tullio.

The best comp is the rookie season. At even strength, McLeod was 34-34 (50 percent), the Condors 85-115 (43 percent) without him. He really did announce his presence with authority as a rookie.

GOALIES!

The Oilers have two goalies on the farm who are thriving. Olivier Rodrigue owns a .918 SP, good for No. 8 among qualified AHL goalies. Jack Campbell is at .915SP, good for No. 12 overall. Ryan Fanti is at .913 in the ECHL.

CULL THE HERD

Oilers have several veterans signed to NHL deals who play for Bakersfield and are UFA this summer. Adam Erne, Sam Gagner, Seth Griffith and Greg McKegg are all in need of a contract. You need centers in the American League, they can help skill wingers along. What do you think of this lineup in the fall?

  • Caggiula-Pederson-Bourgault
  • Savoie-Hamblin-Tullio
  • Petrov-Grubbe-Wright*
  • Stonehouse-Berglund-Chiasson

I’d sign Cameron Wright today. I think he’s a quality AHL player and maybe he goes Arcobello and grabs 200 NHL games. I have included veterans Caggiula, Pederson and Hamblin, plus Wright who plays like one and Berglund who is an older prospect. It’s not enough veterans. I don’t think the Oilers can afford another season of not playing these kids. If injuries hit, bring up Ethan de Jong.

Max Wanner, Phil Kemp and Ben Gleason are the only blue under contract. Pile of RFA’s this time, I wrote about it (above) for The Athletic.

BOTTOM LINE

If I had $100 dollars to bet on some of all of Tullio, Bourgault, Petrov, Savoie and Grubbe to make the show, at this point I’d put $50 on Tullio and $50 on Grubbe. Grubbe is 20 and wins battles, goes to the net, contests the anthem. I’m telling you he is going to play in the NHL.

That’s not where the organization should be with this group. It’s baffling what has happened since Jay Woodcroft left Bakersfield. I know a winning environment matters, but I think if we’re going to be true to these kids, they have to play and be part of the success. Otherwise, what the hell are they doing down there?

All of this to say the following: I do believe the Oilers must cull the veterans. I also believe they have to decide on some of these prospect forwards. Some have to go. Grab four and play the hell out of them next year.

Today on the Lowdown (starting at noon) day two of NFL free agency and our weekly visit with Daniel Nugent-Bowman at The Athletic. He’s writing brilliant stuff about the deadline, the road trip and the days to come. That might have been better than the first one…..

MushedPeas

frig. VEG just went from ongoing downslide to potential rallying point for their season.

Ah Well. It’s not like I ever believed they’d miss the postseason.

Chelios is a Dinosaur

Someone is going to have to stop Vegas it may as well be us.

OriginalPouzar

Campbell with 32 saves in a 4-1 win!

ArmchairGM

He’s sporting a .933 save percentage since Christmas.

ArmchairGM

Conversely, Rodrigue has a .908 save percentage since Christmas. Glad to see the coaching staff continue to give him regular starts.

OriginalPouzar

I forgot to mention, Holloway isn’t actually playing tonight – sigh.

OriginalPouzar

Just cheking the NHL scores and, yup, turning on the rest of this Kraken/Knight’s game.

OriginalPouzar

Great defensive play by Larsson with just over a minute to go and the Vegas net early.

OriginalPouzar

Knights tie it up with 17 seconds to go.

OriginalPouzar

Kemp with a great stick at the defensive blue to stop a rush but the highlight of this play is Lavoie picking up the puck at the defensive blue, circling to pick up speed, drive down the left side through the neutral zone and in to the offensive zone, outside/inside move to beat the d-man to get to the net. A great rush (although the speed wasn’t very good).

Loose puck back to the point and Broberg sifts one through a heavy screen for a 4-1 lead.

Jack with 23 saves on 24 shots to this point.

OriginalPouzar

Amazing cycle shift by Gagner, Petrov and McKegg with Dinnen and Wanner – lots of puck retrieval and plays to the net.

Wanner with a hard pass cross blue to Dinnen for a hard shot, battle in the corner for the rebound which Abbotsford comes up with but Petrov and Gagner combine to interupt the exit and Petrov with a great skilled pass from the middle slot to the side slot for Gagner to one-time home to restore the 2 goal lead.

OriginalPouzar

Wanner absolutely walked at the defensive circles on a one on one but Campbell with a great poke-check – the puck goes tot he side of the net, gets put cross ice to the d-man outside the circles who hammers one short side through a screen.

2-1

OriginalPouzar

Pederson with a clean offensive zone faceoff win – Gleason dumps it in the far corner, Pederson collects in, moves from low to high and fees Noel H. at the point and his bomb goes off something and in and its 2-0 half way through the second.

Jack with 12 saves.

Rondo

Panthers, Oilers, Hurricanes, Avalanche, Stars, Bruins, Golden Knights, and Rangers.

OriginalPouzar

Wright, Kambeitz, Savoie with a long and hard forecheck shift but they eventually lose possesion – the Heat d-man with the puck with lots of space but the puck rolls off his stick in the high slot and Wright one-times the “pass” for the 1-0 lead and that’s the score heading in to the intermission.

Jack with 6 saves.

OriginalPouzar

Tulio continues to get reps on the top line with Pederson and Erne tonight.

As mentioned yesterday, Holloway is good to go and he’s lining up at center between Petrov and Gagner – great opportunity for Petrov.

Team player of the week with 1GA in two games, Jack Campbell get the start in Abbotsford (where he was heckled mercilessly earlier this season).

OriginalPouzar

We knew that Knob was going to work to get Skecher in to the lineup very soon and he confirmed on with Stauff today that it’ll be in the next 2-3 games.

He also answered a direct question by saying that he isn’t sure if he’ll got 12/6 or 11/7 and mentioned it’ll be determined by looking at match-ups and opposition and what not.

For me, I would be surprised if that’s not just lip-service and if he goes 11/7. I get the sense that he’s quite loathe to go 11/7 (he played Kemp at forward as opposed to doing it) and I personally disagree with that.

That isn’t to say that I think, or coach thinks, Skecher is “better than” either Vinny or Ceci but I do think he’ll stick with a 12/6 formation and he’s just not wanting to essentially say publicly that one of those two are going to be scratched for a non injury/illness/personal leave reason.

winchester

If Holland plans to insert Broberg cold into a playoff game, he might as well call the ambulance and have it on stand by.

He’s a fine player but has a propensity for taking hard, bruising, hits. With the forecheck he will have coming at him in the playoffs, please don’t.

Warm him up at least before the playoffs. He has nothing left to learn in the AHL, he needs more acclimation time in the NHL in order to contribute. You may or may not need him, but get him ready.

Ryan

I was looking at The Dallas roster and lines the other day.

Crazy to think that Thomas Harley who was picked 10 spots after Broberg is patrolling the top pairing in Dallas.

jp

It’s kind of remarkable. The players drafted by the Oilers in 2015 alone have 1 fewer point (1180) than all of the players drafted by Dallas since (and including) 2015 (1181).

Of course most of that is McDavid (953). For completeness, Oilers drafted players since 2015 have scored a total of 1707 points, with 754 of those coming from players other than McDavid.

Dallas has definitely hit on more players more recently.

Munny 2.0

Definitely crazy. Dallas has really struggled defensively this season. They desperately needed that Tanev trade too. Oettinger’s numbers have plummeted accordingly. Not your typical Stars squad.

Ryan

Yeah, they have had a great run.

Wild. Their head scout is Joe McDonnell who is a former Red Wings scout.

Also, Ken Holland’s brother, Dennis Holland is one of their amateur scouts.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_McDonnell_(ice_hockey)

On July 6, 2013, McDonnell as well as Red Wings scout Mark Leach followed former colleague Jim Nill to the Dallas Stars, where McDonnell was hired as Director of Amateur Scouting for the Dallas Stars, the same position he held in Detroit.[7]

Summarizing!

Stonehouse was not in the lineup for Ottawa today.

Reja

Does anyone know how many TOI minutes a goalie needs to be on the official board list. If Pickard was eligible he would be leading the league in GA at 2.27 and his SV% at 919 would be 20 over average. If you take away the Woody reinventing the wheel start this D scheme we have in place is definitely in uncharted E-town franchise waters.

ArmchairGM

22 games played, roughly 1/3 of the average GP. Pickard has 14.

Reja

Thanks. If I’m the head coach I come right back with Pickard against the Caps who were shutout yesterday by the Jets.

OriginalPouzar

The head coach is not going to sit his go-to guy two games in a row (in particular when he’s playing solid hockey generally) and he’s already confirmed Skinner starts tomorrow (and I would be surprised if he doesn’t start Saturday).

SkatinginSand

According Sportsnet, he is 5th in GA and 7th in SV%. Obviously they do not use TOI.

OriginalPouzar

For official leaderboard type stats, SV% and GAA, the goalie has to have played on 0.3125 of his team’s games. Picks isn’t going to make it.

You can feel the push coming.

@BR_OpenIce

Alpharetta Sports and Entertainment Group, led by Anson Carter, announced its formal request for NHL expansion to bring a franchise back to Atlanta

fishman

I find that some what surprising. Atlanta already had a swing and a miss and there are other markets like KC, Houston, Seattle or Salt Lake City. Probably a market that could easily support another team is the GTA although Leafs veto that. Also think Quebec City a long shot. Gary probably not keen on another small Canadian market team.

Munny 2.0

A?

defmn

I think Seattle thinks they already have a franchise. 😇

fishman

Sorry brain cramp!!

SkatinginSand

Atlanta has missed twice, Calgary and Winnipeg, yet Bettman is again talking up that market

PokeCheck

Maybe a third shot for Atlanta is Bettman’s sneaky way of awarding a franchise to Quebec City?

rich tm

It’s a trend. Team will eventually land in Quebec.

Scungilli Slushy

I read an article talking about QC. It’s very unlikely they get a franchise anytime soon

The reason being that a team there won’t bring new fans. It will split the Quebec fan base

They will go where they think they can grow

Hartford or bust. Bring back the whale.

Reja

Utube Hartford vs Bruins they played some brutal exciting games against each other. It was probably 3rd behind Habs vs Nordiques and battle of Alberta for must see rivalry T.V

Optimism is like heroin

How about we deal w Arizona before more expansion

fishman

That franchise should have been moved years ago. What a fiasco. Really don’t understand the logic of that franchise in that location????

OriginalPouzar

I think the logic is easy given the size of the Phoenix Metro market. There is also a solid history of pro hockey in the Phoenix area and in the state.

I actually think that NHL hockey can work in the area if they had a positive solution to the arena issue.

I do agree that is time to re-locate given there is no resolution to the arena issue that would work but I think a team could end up back there in due time one there was a stable arena solution.

Scungilli Slushy

It’s not the arena, it’s where is the arena

If it’s not where corporations will purchase boxes, doesn’t matter. The retail at what they sell tickets for isn’t enough

OriginalPouzar

Yes, I know that, that is a big part of it and it hasn’t been resolved at this point.

OriginalPouzar

Skinner starts tomorrow.

Stecher won’t play but coach say soon.

Lines look the same with both Ryan/Carrick taking reps at 4C

cowboy bill

I guess it will depend on how well Desharnais plays with Nurse. That will keep Vinny on his toes, if he wants to stay in the lineup, with Stecher chomping at the bit. Because I think they like Kulak & Ceci together. Nice to have options.

Scungilli Slushy

With the discussion about the PP, for me the concern is what happens in playoffs. You want to make the playoffs and have all game states running well going in, but that’s where the rubber meets the road

OP put up the 2023 playoff PP % which was 46.2, by far #1. I wanted to have a look at what happened with special teams for the final 8 teams

The NHL usually evens penalties out during games, fair or not, or at least that’s how most seem to perceive it. The first thing I see is the outliers Panthers and Vegas. That seems a bit unusual

It’s ‘probably random’, but Carolina and Vegas get the push, the expansion team gets neutral, the ones the NHL would prefer win than some get a little push, and the outsiders Florida, NJ and Edmonton get a disadvantage

So then I wonder what happened in the final?

Game 1. Score 5-2 Vegas. Refs McCauley/O’Rourke. PPs 7-3 Vegas. First half of the game Vegas gets 3 of 4 PPs awarded. 3rd period 3 of 4 PPs awarded, game tied going into the 3rd

Game 2. Score 7-2 Vegas. Refs Rooney/Kozari. PPs 4-4. 1st period Panthers get the first 2 penalties, Vegas cashes 1, Panthers can’t get their 1 chance, Vegas scores 3 more EV goals, game goes chaotic

Game 3. Score 3-2 OT Panthers. Refs O’Rourke/ Sutherland. PPs 6-5 Vegas. 1st period Panthers get the 1st PP and don’t score, Vegas the next 2 and do get 1G. 2nd period they rotate PPs, Vegas gets 1G. 3rd period tie game late, they call Panthers for a trip at 19:48. But Panthers win in OT

Game 4. Score 3-2 Vegas. Refs McCauley/Kozari. PPs 1-1. Nobody scores on PP. Vegas gets a PP at 2:52 of the 2nd up1-0. Panthers get their PP at 19:42 of the 3rd

Game 5. Score 9-3 Vegas. Refs Rooney/Sutherland. PPs 1-1. Vegas gets the 1st PP at 7:53 in the 1st, doesn’t score on their PP, the first of the game. Panthers give up a SHG on their 1st period PP. Vegas up 2-0 by 13:41 in the 1st, last penalty of the game called at 10:38 of the 1st

29 penalties in the 1st three games, 17-12 Vegas. 4 in the last 2 games. This sure doesn’t look even to me. Based on the timing of things it sure seems like one team was given the advantage. It is particularly odd that games 4 and 5 have a sudden drop in penalties called, and have different refs each game. The call is coming from inside the house

There is a similar pattern in the Oilers series against Vegas, except game 4 where they got 7 PPs (1/7). Game 5, series tied 2-2, the refs decided to flip that, 7 PPs for Vegas. Vegas got the 1st penalty in the 1st, we scored. The Oilers got a penalty for challenging Eichel’s goal, they whiffed

We scored on our next PP at 9:56, up 2-1, and Vegas got the 4 next PPs, including a 5v3 scoring 2G, Vegas up 3-2. Connor gets an early 3rd period PP G on Kolesar’s misconduct, 4-3 Vegas, refs give Foegele a double minor, give Vegas 1 minute on PP and then give Eichel the call for roughing Desharnais, and then put the whistles away at 9:05 of the 3rd. Oilers’ PP too hot, unfair advantage?

Game 6 each team gets 2 penalties. The Oilers get the only full PP in the 2nd the first PP given and don’t score, it’s 3-2 Vegas, and the other 3 PPs get shortened. Yama gets a penalty at 16:32 of the 2nd, Theodore at 17:13, Ekholm at 17:53, Vegas goes up 4-2 late in the second on an EV G, refs put the whistles away and that’s all she wrote

No wonder fans think it’s dodgy. This series they called even PPs, but the timing favoured Vegas, especially the last two games, and it’s strange that refs will suddenly stop calling penalties, especially in later games in the series

Darth Tu

I appreciate the post, but this is very Pepe Silvia.

Scungilli Slushy

Welcome, make of it what you will

The point of it being to me when you take a more granular look as opposed to aggregated numbers, those are some very odd, repeated patterns, which don’t seem worthy of a league like the NHL

So a lot of fans think it’s purposeful. It makes me wonder, as LT said about GMs (IIRC), when someone tells you who they are believe them. Reffing has always been game state related in the NHL. But without something coming to light specifically we’ll never know, hopefully it evens out in the end

hunter1909

Great post. With gambling taking over the NHL it’s inevitable for people to micro analyze anything that goes against the grain of perfect fair play in all of its forms.

Scungilli Slushy

If gambling has to be involved it’s the least they could do for the league

Maybe a younger fella in charge who gets that of you don’t get young fans, who will be repulsed by the double standards etc, it won’t go well down the road

AsiaOil

For the Oilers to win this season they need a few things to go right (like any team who wins). First they need Skinner to play like a top 10 goalie (he’s playing like it but will he hold up). Next they need Vinny to hold up as 2RD (a bit skeptical on this one but we still have some regular season road left to test drive him). Finally we need the Kane-Henrique-Brown line to play and score like an elite 3rd line. This last one is really important and I’m not surprised that Coach K put these guys together. If they can pull it off then this team stands a real good chance of going all the way. Hope Kane and Henrique understand the importance of this role and willingly take it on.

ArmchairGM

So what you’re saying is, Edmonton needs three elite scoring lines in order to win?

AsiaOil

More out-scoring lines

OriginalPouzar

Stauff said yesterday that he’s 100% sure that Carrick will be back in the lineup tomorrow (barring an injury or illness of course).

I’m sure most will want Brown to come out but, for me, Brown 100% plays – I thought he was excellent last game and he’s been coming on for a bit – not to mention, he’s on the 3rd line right now and getting some reps with Kane/Henrique makes sense to me. Any of Perry, Ryan or Janmark can take a night off in my opinion.

cowboy bill

I’m positive Derek Ryan will see plenty of ice time deservedly. However, I kind of like a fourth line with Janmark, Carrick & Perry. That would be my go-to.
If Brown doesn’t work out with Kane & Henrique, Ryan can fit in really on either 3rd or 4th lines.

Last edited 1 month ago by cowboy bill
cowboy bill

I suppose Holloway & Lavoie might fit in well also if injuries occur in the forward group and Stecher & Broberg can step in defensively.

SayItAin'tSo, Gretz, SayItAin'tSo!

Connor Brown has one assist on Kane’s goals. Their GF/GA is 2-12 in all strengths. Derek Ryan has three assists on Kane goals, Perry and Kane have each assisted each other and Perry notched a second on a Kane goal. Each of Ryan, Kane and Perry have better fancy numbers away from Brown than with him and each have better numbers with each other away from Brown, though there are a few small sample sizes.

Connor Brown is clearly and obviously a drag on Evander Kane. No wonder Kane has been frustrated and complaining about ice time. Imagine being a scorer and being forced to play with a Black Hole game, after game, after game after game.

If there is a raucous in the room and Kane is involved its almost certainly because Coach K is playing favorites by keeping Brown attached to him despite the results.

Here is hoping tomorrow night is the start of a brand new trend. Godspeed Adam Henrique, you’re being tasked to end a near record level of futility.

SkatinginSand

The AHL and European leagues are full of fast, defensively responsible wingers who will never have an NHL career because they cannot piss a drop of offense. The analytics show that Brown not only has no offense, he suppresses the offense of everyone else.

OriginalPouzar

I would suggest that these numbers, while true I’m sure, are not representative of recent times. Brown was very good last game with Kane and Henrique and, in the prior couple of games when he was on the 4th line, I would suggest the eye test would say his 4th line linemates were a drag on him.

Brown’s play at 5 on 5 in recent games is much different than earlier in the season.

jp

No wonder Kane has been frustrated and complaining about ice time.

Has Kane been frustrated and complaining? I haven’t been following the player interviews and stuff closely.

OriginalPouzar

I’ve seen no indication of this at all and I’ve seen him quite engaged the last few games (to my eye).

I also think a couple of small quips with a mic in front of him have been greatly exaggerated in the market.

jp

No, I haven’t noticed anything from watching either.

But I assume there must be some kind of substance behind SayItAin’tSo’s comment about Kane being disgruntled recently, right?

OriginalPouzar

Substance? Maybe, maybe not.

All speculation based on the implications made from a couple quips through the year and “on-ice body language/actions”, right?

There seem to have been some heated words at one point but that’s also happened a few times this season among the team and the “incidents” without Kane are, apparently, ignored.

Last edited 1 month ago by OriginalPouzar
jp

I thought there may have been some recent quotes since Kane has just been moved to the 3rd line and is playing with Brown for basically the first time since the fall.

If it’s all speculation that’s good to know.

Diablo

I’ve noticed that no one talks about Petrov anymore. Last year the hype train was going crazy for this guy. What happened?

brobergstan

what happened is he moved into the AHL which is a men’s league and his offense dried up. only 6 goals and 9 points in 38 games.

He has been a solid out-scorer this year which shows real development in his game.

I would say he needs to muscle up a bit and focus needs to be on getting to the inside more. i can see his offense getting a boost next season as he gets more comfortable within the league.

Scungilli Slushy

I don’t know how he skates, but if he’s responsible, with his size and that shot, it’s laying right there for him. On some team

OriginalPouzar

Grubbe is looking like a solid move by Holland – he’s farther ahead of the middle round pick that Holland traded to get the player and I think he’s showing his very early 3rd round/2nd round pedigree.

I keep making the mistake of comparing him in to Noah Philp and then remind myself that this is Grubbe’s 20 year old season and I think Philp was 24, if not 25, last season.

On that note, I’m hopeful that, after a year away from the game, Philp maybe wants to re-engage next season.

JJS

I wonder if part of the issue is Holland likes veterans in the AHL who may be able to provide cover in the NHL on league minimum.

He isn’t just stocking the AHL team with veterans to provide shelter for the rookies, he is using the farm as NHL insurance i.e. Gagner, Erne, Caggulia

Why does he do this? Because he hasn’t done enough to fill critical holes in the NHL and is cap tight. There have been regular talent gaps with a constant rotation of AHL veteran bodies.

This deadline may have helped, but yet to be fully determined.

Optimism is like heroin

Tbh I think having a vet in every position in the ahl is important. It provides injury cover, mentorship and let’s the prospects see daily what they need to beat.

Holland has faults yes however his team has gotten better every year. He did this despite the salary cap ruining any long term plans.

Pretendergast

I think the organization has to provide more options for the team that have a chance at NHL games but since they’ve been trading all the picks, it isn’t surprising vets have to cover. Some of it is truly from up top.

The more I look at the wingers, the more this feels like a Chorney, Petry, Cross situation. The players tell you when they’re ready and the cream will rise regardless the circumstance imo.

Holland’s entire philosophy is slow playing, including the AHL. Give them veteran cover. His philosophy and yours differ. You want the kids to have free reign to show if they belong or not. That can be good (Mcleod) or bad (Paajarvi). I prefer the slow play because you want these kids to succeed and thrive at their position before taking on more. If they aren’t ready, they drown, and as we’ve seen countless times, confidence is the great divider. It also avoids making calls on players too soon like Paajarvi.

That’s why this post is somewhat confusing. Slow playing development gives them more runway to round out their game (eg. Lavoie), which is the type of player you’ve said you prefer from the AHL. The really good players don’t stick around long enough to get held back. It’s odd because one of your fav’s Brandon Davidson took past the 5 year window to arrive (and then had the worst luck ever) and we are seeing Vinny D patrol the blueline after taking even longer.

BornInAGretzkyJersey

The Farm Workers become success stories because they take heed of guidance from quality coaches who believe in them and reward growth.

Julien, Nelson, Woodcroft were able to accomplish this task more often then their counterparts.

I think there has to be space available for the late-bloomers to make their mark on the NHL roster. Without opportunity, they’ll die on the vine. This is difficult on more mature teams, or ones with self-designated windows to contend for the Cup as opposed to compete for the playoffs in general.

fishman

You have to wonder the future of Keith Gretzky and coach Chaulk when a new GM is signed??

brobergstan

i have been very critical of chaulk over the last 2 seasons, mainly my concern is his over reliance on veterans and his lack of development with younger players.

If i am a new GM i immediately focus on getting a very development focused coach in the AHL who has a ton of experience. This is an area where you can spend good money and reap the results.

OriginalPouzar

Chaulk has shown no issues putting rookies and young prospects in to high leverage roles and giving them real minutes if earned.

Bourgault played on the PK from his very first game and has been a part of the PK since. Bourgault has played on the top line but has been moved down the lineup many times when his play has dictated it over a stretch of time including not developing in the areas the team has asked him to, for example.

There are many prospects that have shown significant in-season development under Chaulk, such as Philp, Lavoie, Grubbe, Savoie, Tulio.

Tarkus

Prospectuplets!

Before the House of Stone suits up on LT’s Condors fourth line next season, he has a matinee affair in which to participate.

With six games left in the regular season, he has no hope in hell of matching last year’s 37 goals, but 20 is within range with an outside shot at 25. (He currently has 19.) Ottawa has a playoff spot clinched, which will allow him to improve upon his middling 11-2-1-3 boxcars from last postseason.

Puck drops at noon Demmitt time.
