The Edmonton Oilers have a huge chance to salvage November with a win against the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. It’s been a wild ride, and the injuries currently faced could make for a long December, but today there’s reason to believe.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN DECEMBER

On the road to: WAS, TBY, CAR, FLA (Expected 1-2-1) (Actual 2-2-0)

At home to: FLA (Expected 1-0-0) (Actual 1-0-0)
On the road to: CHI (Expected (1-0-0) (Actual 0-0-0)
November expected result: 7-4-3, 17 points in 14 games
Actual November results: 6-7-0, 12 points in 13 games
October results: 6-3-0, 12 points in 9 games
Oilers in 2022-23: 12-10-0, 24 points in 22 games
What a crazy month it’s been. Things started poorly (4-7-0) but these Oilers have a chance to end with three wins in a row. A 13-10-0 pace should land Edmonton around 93 points and that’s close enough for jazz when talking playoffs.
This Oilers team has a big test ahead in terms of depth. Klim Kostin isn’t playing tonight, that probably means Tyler Benson will draw in and play.
There are so many elements on this team that are not firing on all cylinders. I can’t imagine the downbeats continue all season and that should indicate a strong run in the next 50+ games. Connor McDavid’s five-on-five, the goal differential for the top two lines, Darnell Nurse on defense, Jack Campbell in goal. Those things should regress in the coming days and if they all do, Edmonton should be winning hockey games more consistently.
I’m having troubles with the blog these last couple of days, bear with me I’ll endeavor to deal with it at some point this afternoon. Because of it, I’m not going to write a lot today because it keeps disappearing on me. I may add a few lines as the day goes on if this post stays online.
I wrote about acquiring a physical winger at The Athletic today, and was surprised to find several players who qualify for the role. The problem is they are playing on contenders and it’s likely their numbers are being zoomed. This will be a good test for the new pro scouting department, although it may not happen at all.
Daniel Nugent-Bowman’s piece on James Hamblin is fantastic. Please read it. You’ll appreciate the sacrifice made and the closeness of a hockey family. Daniel will join us on Lowetide and Jamieson this morning, as will Bruce McCurdy from the Cult of Hockey at the Edmonton Journal.
The Condors played a wild game last night and lost, but Mike Kesselring scored and Bakersfield had a furious comeback. They were badly outmanned (the recalls have gutted the forward depth) but hung in on a night they were doomed from the start.
My friend Pat McLean wrote about Jo-Anne yesterday, it made me cry. There’s some valuable life lessons in there from a good man and a fine writer. It is here.

502 Bad Gateway as well. Article from today doesn’t exist anymore. Maybe he changed Hosting?
Go Daddy downloaded an SSL certificate but they have no record of doing it. I don’t do anything with them anymore but they sent me an email saying as much. I have reached out to blue host, who are fabulous, but I am not good at connecting with them. I apologize and will attempt to get things back to normal but this could take some time.
Thanks for the update.
Hey LT if you want me to take a look under the hood add me as an authorized user in your hosting or send me the credentials via email. I can get you switched to free SSL as well, via Let’s Encrypt
You might also want to prevent any future auto-updates from GoDaddy, if that was the actual problem.
Also, “Let’s Encrypt” is already the certificate provider for this site according to my browser.
i think the vast majority of fans are just dissapointed in jack campbells miserable performances to date. Every game we all have optimism that it is going to be the nucleus of a hot streak where he plays over 900 for more than 1 game in a row… but alas no.
Last night he looked like he couldnt stop a beach ball, every time minnesota entered the zone i felt internal panic climbing through my body like bed bugs beneath an itchy wool blanket in a cheap motel.
he has simply been sub par on almost every outing this year. the 13 day reset also has not appeared to help. THe question is what do you do with a guy you allocated 25 million to over the next 5 years who is showing to be nothing like what you expected and marketed him to the fans as.
Summarizing!
Lachance potted his 12th goal of the season and added an assist in a 3-0 win, for which he earned 3rd star honours.
Skinner has some wobble yesterday but he actually made some real saves as well.
At least the starting tender vs the Has on Saturday is an easy decision.
the real Klim Shady gets the Oil back to respectability late.
Klim was the Oilers’ best forward in the 1st period – weak goal on MAF but good for the kid and his confidence…..

I have the full story in Friday’s @thebrandonsun
Fifth goal now scored as a deflection.
Wow, 5 goals now. Campbell NOT getting any better as the season goes on now, is he?
Sometimes it takes a tender and entire season with a new team(see: Markstrom) but can it be this bad all season long?
that’s definitely the worry
He’s not really playable right now if they want to win games. Definately not behind this D
Wait, so the goalie CAN make, just not really good saves but really great saves….?
Nope.
This was in relation to a miraculous save by MAF.
the number of times I see Boosh’s feet not moving when they should be blows me away
I like how Jack cautiously ask if that is a penalty on the wild
Need a goal here to have an honest chance
How many times on that shift was Shore playing Dman in his own zone. Good shift by him. Not really by any of the other four skaters.
Can’t really fault Campbell on that goal but he was’t even close, not even a little.
Campbell looked completely faked out IMO.
Not sure how refs miss Dumba infraction on Shore
No kidding.
Is Campbell ever going to settle in and start making some plus saves?
He sure makes himself look small in the net
Cambell is not a good goalie at least this year
Are the Oilers actually winning because they have a 5 on 5 goal and the Wild two PP goals?
Campbell – make a save, like just make one.
Yet he’s got the better SV% on the night.
He doesn’t any more.
Nuge:
Career high 33 PIM
8 PIM last night
Janmark:
Career high 24 PIM
4 PIM and counting tonight
Shocked McDavid missed the net there…… his shot sights may be a bit off these days (post on the wide-open net yesterday as well).
Oilers starting to show their fatigue and terrible neutral zone structure by the Wild gifts McDavid/Drai a 2 on 1 – I’ll take it.
Not a good goal on Campbell – sigh.
So they scored first tonight. Also didn’t take the first penalty.
Those are good things.
First line got caved in the first by the numbers…..
Bottom six were MUCH better than last night – much.
Kostin was fantastic that period.
Rishaug on his pod last night mentioned “high ankle sprain” for McLeod. I don’t think this is “official” but what he surmised by what he’s seeing.
Here is hoping that its just a few weeks as opposed to like 6 (or more) – those always seem to be tricky and can linger sometimes.
Very, very sorry for your loss Allen. I only learned of this from your link to Pat’s blog. Love to you and your family.
Summarizing!
A shooting mentality paid dividends for the three NA prospects in action.
Petrov had 1+1 with a team-high 4 SOG in a win, and he now joins the double-digit goal club.
Schaefer and Wanner each had an assist with 6 (game-high) and 4 SOG respectively, also in wins.
Woah. Like, all of todays comments disappeared. Really hope whatever ails the site is resolved soon.
Nuge determined to finally score 50.
At 5v5…
Nuge with the classic baby pumpernickel after a goal.
Nice to see the ‘2nd line’ get a goal.
Nice plays by all of them.
Matrix glitched again.
